  • designing paper disasters an authoring environment for developing training exercises in integrated emergency management
    Cognition Technology & Work, 1999
Co-Authors: Wally Smith, John Dowell, Miguel A Ortegalafuente
    Abstract:

Discussion-based exercises are a prevalent form of training in emergency management, aimed at improving coordinative decision making between the various agencies involved in disaster response. In each exercise, small multi-agency groups of decision makers discuss potential courses of action within a fictitious disaster scenario presented as a textual narrative supported by visual materials. We present a cognitive engineering analysis of the problem of designing disaster scenarios for effective discussion-based exercises. The analysis was carried out through the development of a pilot authoring environment to establish and address the requirements of a training organisation in the UK. The pilot authoring environment embodies a simple theoretical model of the exercise process in which facts of a disaster scenario afford discussion of pertinent issues which are elicited by considerations fed to trainees. This representational scheme allows the authoring environment to complement and extend authors’ mental models of exercises, and thereby enhance five aspects of authoring: rationalisation; continuity of rationale; evolution; adaptability; and the integration of Evaluation Feedback.

  • predictors of school garden integration factors critical to gardening success in new york city
    Health Education & Behavior, 2018
Co-Authors: Kate G Burt, Marissa Burgermaster, Raquel Jacquez
    Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to determine the level of integration of school gardens and identify factors that predict integration. 211 New York City schools completed a survey that collected demographic information and utilized the School Garden Integration Scale. A mean garden integration score was calculated, and multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine independent predictors of integration and assess relationships between individual integration characteristics and budget. The average integration score was 34.1 (of 57 points) and ranged from 8 to 53. Operating budget had significant influence on integration score, controlling for all other factors (p < .0001). Partner organizations, Evaluation/Feedback, planning the physical space, and characteristics of the physical space were positively and significantly related to budget. The results of this study indicate that any garden can become well integrated, as budget is a modifiable factor. When adequate funding is secured, a well-integrated...

  • Continuous quality improvement through post‐occupancy Evaluation Feedback
Journal of Corporate Real Estate, 2003
    Co-Authors: Wolfgang F. E. Preiser
    Abstract:

Over the past 30 years, both the governmental and private sectors have made use of a Feedback mechanism, which helps improve the quality of environments: post‐occupancy Evaluation (POE) or similar systematic processes, which gauge the satisfaction with, and importance of, the designed and built environment. How does this process work, what kind of input does it require? What value, if any, does it add to the core business of an organisation? When should it be carried out, and how should the resulting data be used in enhancing the quality of existing and future buildings? Who should commission POEs and who should be in charge of developing databases, which can be used for benchmarking and the development of building performance criteria for future projects? What is the cost of these POEs in relationship to the benefits to be derived? All of these questions will be addressed in this paper.

  • Study on the Post-Evaluation of Environmental Planning Based on Logical Framework Approach
    2011
    Co-Authors: Dong Ze-qin
    Abstract:

[Objective] The aim was to conduct post-Evaluation on environmental planning by means of logical framework approach. [Method] Taking environmental planning during "11th Five-year Plan" in a certain province for example, by means of logical framework approach (LFA), the post-Evaluation on environmental planning was carried out from the aspects of Evaluation content, index system, implementation steps, Evaluation Feedback and input-output analysis of environmental planning. [Result] The post-Evaluation on environmental planning by means of LFA achieved expected purpose and various indexes at different stages of environmental planning was assessed, and then corresponding countermeasures were put forward according to the problems which were found by problem tree of environmental planning project. [Conclusion] The study could provide theoretical references for the post-Evaluation on environmental planning in future.

  • Evaluation model of career counseling program in vocational high school
International Journal of Evaluation and Research in Education, 2019
Co-Authors: Sri Tutur Martaningsih, Soenarto Soenarto, Edi Istiyono
    Abstract:

ocational high school graduates are expected to readily enter the work field, nevertheless, the number of unemployment from vocational high school graduates is still big. Optimizing a career guidance service requires complete Evaluation Feedback. In detail, this research aims to: identifying a construct instrument applicable to evaluate a career guidance program at vocational high school; Developing an Evaluation model; and Examining the measurement, structure and the effectivity of the model. The research’s approach and development employ Borg & Gall’s Model. The test toward the product is addressed to nine vocational high schools in Yogyakarta. The validity and reliability instruments are verified through expert judgment, alpha Cronbach analysis, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), testing the measurement model, and for the structural model, it is verified by means of partial least square (PLS) SmartPLS 3.0. The product constitutes a career guidance Evaluation model at vocational high school, complete with its application, manipulation, and analysis up to recommendation construction. The result of the EFA test shows six measurement factors of counseling service: assertiveness, career readiness, self-awareness, career awareness, work characteristics, and positive attitude towards guidance and counseling service. The quality instrument product of TADIPHE consists of the target component (3 items), assessment (13 items), design (13 items), installation (22 items) process (44 items), the result (70 items), and effectiveness of the program (7 items). The result of the partial least square shows that all predictors contribute (Q 2 ) as much as 88.91%, and 11.09 % and the rest may be determined by other variables.
