    Abstract:

    Diverse shallow water assemblages dominated by brachiopods, molluscs, sponges and stromatoporoids, and a tabulate coral, in the Wahringa Limestone Member (Darriwilian-Gisbornian), and Yuranigh Limestone Member (Gisbornian, or early Late Ordovician) of the Fairbridge Volcanics, are documented from the northern Molong Volcanic Belt in central N.S.W. New species described include Billingsaria spissa, Shlyginia printhiensis and Sowerbyites? wahringaensis. Elements of the Wahringa Limestone Member assemblage such as Labechia banksi, Labechiella regularis, and Maclurites cf. M. florentinensis are biogeographically significant in displaying strong similarities with contemporaneous Tasmanian faunas. The brachiopods Ishimia and Shlyginia from the Yuranigh Limestone Member are recognised for the first time outside Kazakhstan and Sibumasu. The presence of the brachiopod Anoptambonites in allochthonous limestone breccia within the lower Fairbridge Volcanics provides evidence of a regionally significant hiatus of 10–1...

  • Middle Ordovician (Darriwilian) conodonts from allochthonous limestones in the Oakdale Formation of central New South Wales, Australia

    Abstract:

    Twenty species of late Middle Ordovician conodonts including two new forms, Erraticodon bellevuensis sp. nov. and Ansella? haustra sp. nov., are described and illustrated from allochthonous limestone blocks in the Oakdale Formation of the Bell River Valley, N.S.W. The co-occurrence of Paroistodus horridus, Histiodella kristinae and Appalachignathus delicalulus in the fauna suggests the limestone was originally deposited in late Darriwilian (most likely early-mid Da3) time, providing a maximum age constraint on its inclusion in the Oakdale Formation. Some faunal similarities are apparent between this conodont fauna and that from (1) allochthonous limestone clasts within the Fairbridge Volcanics below the Wahringa Limestone Member and (2) contemporaneous deep-water cherts in basinal turbidite facies of the Adaminaby Group.   • Ordovician (Darriwilian-Katian) lingulate brachiopods from central New South Wales, Australia

    Abstract:

    This paper completes the systematic description of all known lingulate brachiopods from the Ordovician Macquarie Volcanic Province in central New South Wales, including a new genus and species, 'Psygmakantha malachiensis' and the new species 'Acrosaccus scutatus, Apatobolus anoskelidion, Atansoria australis, Biernatia pseudoplana, Biernatia wrighti, Eoconulus puteus, Nushbiella kleithria and Scaphelasma quadratum'. The oldest lingulates documented are from latest Middle Ordovician (Darriwilian) to early Upper Ordovician (Sandbian) limestones within the Fairbridge Volcanics, which yield 'Acrosaccus, Biernatia, Elliptoglossa, Ephippelasma' and 'Nushbiella'. Late Ordovician (Katian) lingulates described from the Fossil Hill Limestone (Benthic Assemblage 1-3) of the Cliefden Caves area include 'Acrosaccus, Plectoglossa and Pseudolingula'?. Slightly younger, outer shelf to upper slope (BA 4-5) high diversity lingulate faunas, comprising most of the new taxa described herein, occur in allochthonous limestone breccias of the Malongulli Formation, in the Downderry Limestone Member of the Ballingoole Limestone, and in limestones redeposited in the Barnby Hills Shale and other Silurian strata. These deeper water faunas are dominated by acrotretoids, including species of 'Conotreta, Ephippelasma, Hisingerella, Rhysotreta'?, 'Scaphelasma, Spondylotreta' and 'Undiferina'. Additional material of species previously described from graptolitic siltstones of the lower Malongulli Formation, including 'Elliptoglossa adela, Paterula malongulliensis and Hisingerella hetera', are figured by SEM photography for the first time. Biogeographic affinities of the lingulate faunas described here align most strongly with those from Kazakhstan, terranes along the perimeter of Laurentia, New Zealand, and to a lesser extent with South China.

  • The Upper Ordovician Kenyu Formation in the Boorowa District, Southeastern New South Wales

    Abstract:

    Conodonts obtained during mapping of the Boorowa 1:100000 geological sheet indicate a late Gisbornian to earliest Eastonian age (Late Ordovician: late Sandbian to earliest Katian) for allochthonous limestone in the Kenyu Formation. This age is based on co-occurrence of Belodina compressa, Phragmodus undatus and Yaoxianognathus wrighti, associated with Drepanoistodus suberectus, Panderodus gracilis, Periodon aculeatus, Protopanderodus liripipus, Scabbardella sp. cf. altipes and Yaoxianognathus sp. The faunal association, including acrotretide, discinide and lingulide brachiopods in addition to the conodonts, indicates that the limestone was probably originally deposited on the shelf edge, prior to being dislodged down the fl anks of a volcanic island in a mass flow. The late Gisbornian to earliest Eastonian age recognised for the Kenyu Formation provides an important constraint on the age and cessation of contemporaneous volcanism in the central Macquarie Arc, represented more extensively further north by the Walli Volcanics and Fairbridge Volcanics. No significant break intervened between the end of this volcanism and ensuing deposition of widespread limestones of Eastonian age on the Molong Volcanic Belt.

    Abstract:

    Twenty-nine conodont species are documented from the Wahringa Limestone Member and other isolated limestone pods of the Fairbridge Volcanics, in the Bakers Swamp area between Wellington and Orange, central New South Wales. Three conodont assemblages are recognised within the Wahringa Limestone Member. The oldest is characterised by the occurrence of Pygodus protoanserinus and Pygodus serra, indicative of a late Darriwilian age (Da3 to early Da4). The overlying assemblage B, bearing Belodina monitorensis, probably ranges across the Mid to Late Ordovician boundary. Assemblage C with abundant Belodina compressa in the upper part of the Wahringa Limestone Member is of late Gisbornian (Gi2) age. The conodont faunas are significant in being the first described from the Lachlan Orogen in New South Wales spanning the Mid to Late Ordovician interval, although resolution of the actual boundary level is limited in the section measured.

    The goal of the evaluation was to examine how the Princes Trust Programme at Holme House Prison works as a rehabilitative strategy, outlining both the dynamic processes involved and their immediate/short-term and medium/longer-term impacts on the lives of participants. This model was based on qualitative feedback from participants themselves as well as an analysis of the existing literature on the rehabilitation of young people leaving custody. The programme began running in October 2012 with funding for two years. The programme is underpinned by using Kolb’s Learning Theory, Choice Theory and Reality Therapy.
