  • Growth, atomic structure and electronic properties of thin Films Bi on InAs(100) and on InAs(111).
    2015
    Co-Authors: Djukic Uros
    Abstract:

A new class of material is coming up, Topological Insulators, have opened a wide field of research. Bismuth, an element of group V of periodic table, is one of the key ingredient of this Topological Insulators family. With the aim of improving technological applications, especially the electronic compounds, it is of most importance to control the preparation of thin Films Materials. Within this Phd work, we studied the growth and Bismuth electronic structure on (100) and (111) semiconductor III-V InAs surfaces.Bi deposition on InAs(100) surface result of a Bi self-assembly which forms lines at atomic scale. We show Bi interact extremely weakly with the surface because the beginning structure of clean InAs(100) surface stay unharmed. The study of valence band sheds light on the existence of resonant states strongly photon energy dependent and also depend on the light polarization, consistent with almost one dimensional structure surface.InAs(111) surface specific feature is that it has both surface ending different : In ending, (face A) and As ending, (face B). The both faces pointed out distinguishable reconstructions. By the core-level photoemission we identified a chemical reactivity difference taking place between A and B faces. Bi growth on A-face tend to be a high quality monocrystal for those Films from a thickness of 10 monolayers. On the other hand, during the deposition of first layers, the B-face show an island growth and a good monocrystal is obtained only available for Films with 50 monolayers at least. For the same face, A or B, we have seen some growth discrepancies more subtle between prepared surfaces either by ionic bombardment and annealing (IBA) either by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE).The angular resolved photoemission allowed to identify the band dispersion inside of this Bi Films. The dispersion is absolutely relative to the bulk Bi crystal. The final step involved the study of Sb monocrystal electronic structure deposited onto Bi film.Clean InAs(111)A and InAs(111)B surfaces indicate a band bending which result in the accumulation electron charge formation. With depositing Bi onto these surfaces, the accumulation layer would be kept, it is also increased, given that Bi acts as a donor-like in InAs. The accumulation layer is characterized by an electron quantum confinement, measurable by angle resolved photoemission. Keywords:Electronic structure surface, ARPES, semimetal, band bending effect, 2DEG, Bismuth, Sb, InAs(111)A, InAs(111)B, quatum wells, Fermi surface, thin Films

  • resistive switching phenomena in thin Films Materials devices and applications
    Mrs Bulletin, 2012
    Co-Authors: Dmitri B Strukov, H Kohlstedt
    Abstract:

Resistive switching, the reversible modulation of electronic conductivity in thin Films under electrical stress, has been observed in a wide range of material systems and is attributed to diverse physical mechanisms. Research activity in this area has been traditionally fueled by the search for a perfect electronic memory candidate but recently received additional attention due to a number of other promising applications, such as reconfigurable and neuromorphic computing. This issue of MRS Bulletin is devoted to current state-of-the-art understanding of the physics behind resistive switching in several major classes of material systems and their intrinsic scaling prospects in the context of electronic circuit applications. In particular, the goal of this introductory article is to review the most promising applications of thin-film devices and outline some of the major requirements for their performance.

  • Non destructive dielectric characterization of thin ferroelectric Films Materials using coplanar line structure
    Integrated Ferroelectrics, 2007
Co-Authors: Hussein Kassem, Valérie Vigneras, Guillaume Lunet
    Abstract:

this paper presents a nouvelle and non-destructive Broadband characterization method which uses a coplanar line for the measurement of the complex permittivity of linear dielectric Materials and precisely, that of ferroelectric thin Films. The method uses the transmission coefficient and the quasi-TEM analysis to find the effective permittivity of the multilayer system, and then the coplanar conformal mapping technique is employed to extract the relative permittivity of the thin layer. Comparing our results to those of cavity resonator method at 12GHz shows a good agreement. The measurement is done in the microwave frequency band (45MHz- 20GHz).

  • polymerization of aniline on bacterial cellulose and characterization of bacterial cellulose polyaniline nanocomposite Films
    Current Applied Physics, 2012
    Co-Authors: Hanseung Yang
    Abstract:

Abstract Bacterial cellulose/polyaniline nanocomposite film was prepared by the chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline with bacterial cellulose. Polyaniline conducting polymer nanocomposite Films with bacterial cellulose fibers was prepared and characterized. In nanocomposite film, the bacterial cellulose was fully encapsulated with polyaniline by direct polymerization of the respective monomers using the oxidant and dopant. These bacterial cellulose/polyaniline nanocomposite Films Materials exhibited the inherent properties of both components. The deposition of a polyaniline on the bacterial cellulose surface was characterized by SEM. XPS revealed a higher doping level of the nanocomposite Films doped with p-TSA dopant. From the cyclic voltammetry results, the polyaniline polymer was thermodynamically stable because redox peaks of electrochemical transitions in the voltagrams were maintained in bacterial cellulose/polyaniline nanocomposite Films.

  • electrochemical deposition of conductive superhydrophobic zinc oxide thin Films
Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2003
Co-Authors: Mei Li, Jin Zhai, Yanlin Song, Lei Jiang
    Abstract:

A simple method of electrochemical deposition was adopted to prepare conductive hydrophobic zinc oxide (ZnO) thin Films. The surface structures were characterized by sanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Wettability studies revealed that the surface of the as-prepared thin Films showed a contact angle (CA) for water of 128.3 ± 1.7°, whereas the superhydrophobic surface with a water contact angle of 152.0 ± 2.0° was obtained by (fluoroalkyl)silane modification. The superhydrophobic conductive thin Films Materials may have potential use such as microfluidic devices in the future. It is likely that other oxide Materials may be similarly prepared by this method.
