    The cat Flea, Ctenocephalides felis, is the most prevalent Flea species detected on dogs and cats in Europe and other world regions. The status of Flea Infestation today is an evident public health concern because of their cosmopolitan distribution and the Flea-borne diseases transmission. This study determines the spatial distribution of the cat Flea C. felis infesting dogs in Spain. Using geospatial tools, models were constructed based on entomological data collected from dogs during the period 2013–2015. Bioclimatic zones, covering broad climate and vegetation ranges, were surveyed in relation to their size. The models builded were obtained by negative binomial regression of several environmental variables to show impacts on C. felis Infestation prevalence: land cover, bioclimatic zone, mean summer and autumn temperature, mean summer rainfall, distance to urban settlement and normalized difference vegetation index. In the face of climate change, we also simulated the future distributions of C. felis for the global climate model (GCM) “GFDL-CM3” and for the representative concentration pathway RCP45, which predicts their spread in the country. Predictive models for current climate conditions indicated the widespread distribution of C. felis throughout Spain, mainly across the central northernmost zone of the mainland. Under predicted conditions of climate change, the risk of spread was slightly greater, especially in the north and central peninsula, than for the current situation. The data provided will be useful for local veterinarians to design effective strategies against Flea Infestation and the pathogens transmitted by these arthropods.

    A 6-year-old she-ass was found to be severely infested with the cat Flea Ctenocephalides felis felis. The animal was severely anaemic and after 2 days of recumbency, it succumbed to the Flea Infestation. The acrimonious anaemia was characterised as normocytic, hypochromic.

    Abstract:

    Heavy Infestation of lambs in two herds and kids in one herd with the cat Flea, Ctenocephalides felis felis, accompanied by severe anaemia, eosinophilia and exudative dermatitis, is described. Flea Infestation was more widespread during the summer months, when optimal climatic conditions for Flea development prevail. The clinical and histological findings are discussed in the light of the pertinent literature. Recovery of the affected animals and normalization of the haematological values were observed after the insecticide treatment. Flea-allergic dermatitis is apparently the cause of the skin lesions in the lambs and kids.

    Abstract:

    The horses were in two stables: in the first stable they were kept together with sheep and in the second stable they were kept together with goats. All horses in both stables were diagnosed as being infested with the cat Flea Ctenocephalides felis felis. Foals were severely infested, whereas adult horses were only moderately infested.

    Background The status of Flea Infestation in dogs is an important public health concern because of their cosmopolitan distribution worldwide and the Flea-borne disease transmission. In the present study, we investigated the Flea Infestation among 116 outdoor dogs (57 females and 59 males) in 8 rural areas of Jeonnam Province, Republic of Korea. Results Thirty-three dogs (28.4%) were infested with Fleas, and all dogs were infested with Ctenocephalides canis . One dog from Hampyeong was co-infested with Ctenocephalides felis orientis , but no dogs were infested with Ctenocephalides felis felis . The reasons behind this almost exclusive distribution of Flea species in dogs from Korea are currently unknown and will require further epidemiological and biological investigations. However, since all dogs investigated in the study were raised in an outdoor environment, the development of Flea eggs, larvae and pupae in climatic conditions in Korea might have negatively affected the survival of other Flea species. Due to the shoes-off culture and floor-heating system of Korean houses, indoor dogs are rarely infested with Fleas in Korea. Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first report on the distribution survey of Flea species infesting dogs in Korea and the first report of C. orientis infesting a dog in Korea.

    En Colombia la cría de ovinos de pelo y caprinos se está expandiendo en diversas regiones por ser alternativa para la producción de carne y leche a precios competitivos gracias a su adaptabilidad y facilidad para digerir forrajes toscos. Dentro de los ectoparásitos que afectan a los pequeños rumiantes tradicionalmente se reconoce a los piojos y la falsa garrapata, Melophagus ovinus (Díptera: Hippoboscidae), sin embargo, las pulgas no se incluyen. Aquí se describe la ocurrencia de la pulga común del gato Ctenocephalides felis felis (Díptera: Siphonaptera) afectando a ovinos y caprinos en una explotación en la sabana de Bogotá, donde se realizó un levantamiento epidemiológico y parasitológico. El aprisco mantenía animales en pastoreo rotacional a una carga animal aproximada de 25 cabezas/ha, recibiendo suplementación adicional con heno y silo. Se confirmó la presencia de la pulga en ovinos y caprinos jóvenes y adultos, lo mismo que en los perros. Los animales evidenciaron diversos grados de anemia, pero no se pudo estudiar la asociación pulicosis - anemia o la presencia de otros agentes anemizantes. En la finca no se utilizan parasiticidas de síntesis. Para mitigar la parasitosis se administra extracto de Ruda (Ruta graveolens), sin mayor eficacia. Criadores de ovinos y caprinos en el trópico deben considerar la pulicosis como agente causante de situaciones adversas de bienestar animal en sus fincas. Sheep and goat breeders in the tropics should consider Flea Infestation as an agent causing adverse animal welfare situations in their farms. Control should start from the knowledge of the life cycle of the Flea, trying to interrupt it
