  • the Four Noble Truths of buddhism in victorian england 1870 1900
    Victorian Review, 2011
    Co-Authors: Jeffrey J Franklin
    Abstract:

Now this, O Bhikkhus, is the Noble truth concerning suffering. Birth is attended with pain, decay is painful, disease is painful, death is painful. Union with the unpleasant is painful, painful is separation from the pleasant; and any craving that is unsatisfied, that too is painful. In brief, the five aggregates which spring from attachment (the conditions of individuality and their cause) are painful. This then, O Bhikkhus, is the Noble truth concerning suffering.

The research sample comprised two sample groups: (1) 4 experts on educational quality assurance, 6 experts on religion and 149 teachers for development of the internal quality assurance system; and (2) 4 experts on educational quality assurance, 3 experts on religion and 16 administrators for evaluation of the developed internal quality assurance system. The employed research instruments were the interview structures, the questionnaires, the internal quality assurance system, a manual for system usage, the quality evaluation forms and focus group discussion. The quantitative data were analyzed with the basic statistics of percentage, mean, and standard deviation; while the qualitative data were analyzed with content analysis. Research findings could be concluded as follows: 1. The developed internal quality assurance system for basic education schools with application of the Four Noble Truths consisted of nine components: 1) the creation of Sammaditth i toward quality assurance; 2) analysis of the problems and needs of the school (Dukkha); 3) prioritizing of the problems; 4) analysis of the factors related to the problems (Samudaya); 5) analysis of the causal factors of the problems of the school; 6) determination of educational standards of the school (Nirodha); 7) consideration of the connection between internal and external quality assurance; 8) determination of the approaches to be taken for problem solving and school development; and 9) the practice taken for problem solving and quality development (Magga); and the auditing and evaluation of the system with application of the three insight (Nana) principle. 2.The results of quality evaluation of the developed system revealed that experts and administrators perceived that the developed system was at the high level quality in accordance with evaluation standards of feasibility, appropriateness, accuracy, and utility.

  • development of knowledge awareness global warming decreasing behavior and critical thinking of grade 11 students using the Four Noble Truths method with meta cognitive techniques
    Educational Research Review, 2015
Co-Authors: Sakkarin Chattuchai, Adisak Singseewo, Paitool Suksringarm
    Abstract:

This study aims to investigate the effects of learning environmental education on the knowledge, awareness, global warming decreasing behavior, and critical thinking of eighty grade 11 students from two classes. The Four Noble Truths method with metacognitive techniques and traditional teaching method were used for the investigation. The sample was obtained by using cluster random sampling techniques. The Four Noble Truths method with metacognitive techniques was used for forty students that made up the experimental group while the traditional learning method was used for the control group consisting of forty students. The research instruments included five- lesson plans using the Four Noble Truths method with three metacognitive techniques : intelligibility, plausibility and wide-applicability (each plan consists of three hours learning per week); a knowledge test on global warming ;  questionnaire on global warming awareness;  questionnaire on global warming decreasing behavior; and a critical thinking test. The major findings revealed that the experimental group and based on prior Biology learning outcome had more knowledge, awareness, global warming decreasing behavior, and critical thinking prior to learning. The high Biology achievers had higher awareness of global warming in two areas, global warming decreasing behavior in one area and critical thinking than the lower Biology achievers in three areas. The experimental group had more knowledge, awareness of global warming generally and in one area, global warming decreasing behavior generally and in one area and overall critical thinking in three aspects than the control group students. In addition, there were statistical correlations between prior Biology learning outcome with learning model and global warming awareness, global warming decreasing behavior, and critical thinking. Key words: The Four Noble Truths method, metacognitive techniques, global warming, awareness, critical thinking

  • Construction and Development of Buddhist Rational Thinking Model Accorded to Buddhist Approach to Decrease Thai Youths’ Problem of Sexual and Narcotic Risk Behaviours
    2017
    Co-Authors: Rerngchai Muenchana
    Abstract:

The risk behaviours can occur through one’s maladjustment or unability which has a bad effect on oneself and others even living things everywhere all the time. Especially the human beings may have risk behaviours more than other living things.  The research study in this matter is found that the adjustment of mental behaviours or the mental way is better than that of physical behaviours because the mind is a source bringing about bodily behaviours.  Whenever one can adjust his mental behaviours, surely one can adjust his physical behaviours.  As seen, Thai Youths at the age of 17-18 have sexual and narcotic risk behaviours more than other age. The factors which give rise to the result of risk are to sexual misconduct and narcotic addiction.  The concept or the way of thinking which can be used to decrease or adjust the risk behavious must trace the cause and factor, and analyze components very carefully by depending on the way of Four Noble Truths, namely problem solving in seeing through values and punishment even the way of thinking about real and false values. Keywords: thinking Yonisomanasikara and model.

  • The construction and developmenst of Buddhist rational thinking model in according with Buddhist approach for decreasingthai youths’ problem of sexual and narcoticrisk behaviors
    2016
    Co-Authors: Rerngchai Muenchana, Methavee Udomthammanuphap
    Abstract:

The risk behaviors are behaviors which happen from maladjustment or disability or dangerous behaviors toward himself or other persons which can happen with all living things in every time and in every place. Particularly, human beings may have the risk behaviors more than other living things. From research, to decrease problems or to adjust mental behaviors are better then decreasing the physical behaviors because, mental behaviors are productive place or the original place of physical behaviors. If the person can adjust mental behaviors, he can adjust the physical behaviors. The results of research, were found that Thai youths’ ages between 17-18 years old had the risk behaviors more than other ages. The concepts to decrease the risk behaviors in research, were found that: to investigate the causes and factors, to separate the components, the Four Noble Truths, to see punishment and the way out and for genuine-equal value.

  • mindful congruence Four Noble Truths and healing relationships
International Journal of Whole Person Care, 2018
    Co-Authors: Patricia L Dobkin
    Abstract:

Amidst the commotion of constant changes in health care systems, budget cuts, burnout and compassion fatigue there are resilient clinicians who relieve suffering and promote healing in those who seek their care. This workshop will focus on how doctors, nurses, and allied health care professionals serve in this way while maintaining equanimity and sense of meaning in their work and personal lives. This 90-minute experiential-based workshop will be divided into three parts. First, Mindful Clinical Practice will be described using narratives from different health care professionals in various settings. Mindful Congruence will be defined, along with Satir’s Four other communication stances. Second, how the Four Noble Truths stemming from Buddhist philosophy inform clinical practice will be discussed with an emphasis on the Eightfold Path to end suffering. Third, a model of Healing Relationships (Scott et al, 2008; 2009) will be used to help participants identify underlying processes contributing to the relational outcomes: hope, trust, and being known. An Appreciative Inquiry exercise will be used to enrich participants’ understanding of their own experiences of being healers in clinical encounters. If and how medicine may be a spiritual practice will be examined. At the end of the workshop participants will be able to: 1. Define Mindful Congruence. 2. Understand how the Four Noble Truths from Buddhist philosophy inform clinical practice. 3. See how meditation practice contributes to clinicians’ mindfulness and emotional regulation. 4. Discern the competencies and processes underlying healing.
