VermaAbstract:An experiment was conducted during spring season of 1992 and 1993 to study the effectiveness of nuclear polyhedrosis virus alone and in combination with endosulfan in the integrated control of fruit-borer [Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) on tomato (Lycopersicon escllientum Miller nom. cons.). Three sprays of endosulfan 0.07% at 10-day intervals starting from 50% flowering of the crop proved to the best. Likewise application of Helicoverpa armigera nuclear polyhedrosis virus @ 700 larval equivalen/ha gave better protection to tomato crop from, H. armigera to 98.25-100.00% reduction in larVal population, 6.89% mean fruit damage, 57.49 kg/plot (4 m X 5 m) mean total YIeld and 53.64 kg/plot mean marketable yield; and it was as effective as Helicoverpa almigera nuclear polyhedrosis virus @ 500 larvae equivalent/ha dose. Sequential application with first spray of endosulfan 0.07% followed by 2 sPraYs of Helicoverpa armigera nuclear polyhedrosis virus @ 250 larval equivalentlha greatly reduced the larval popUlation and was comparable with endosulfan 0.07% applied alone in 3 sprays.

Persian Gulf Crop Protection, 2013Co-Authors: Neeta Sharma, Ritu SrivastavaAbstract:Helicoverpa armigera is currently placed on Annex I, A II of Council Directive 2000/29/EC, indicating that it is considered to be relevant for the entire Europian Union and that phytosanitary measures are required when it is found on any plants or plant products. Although, nearly 30% of total insecticides are used for controlling this pest alone on different crops, yet many of them do not prove effective because pest has been reported to have developed resistance to almost all groups of insecticides (Armes et al., 1996 and Yaqoob et al., 2006). Therefore, the demand in the present scenario is the formulation of eco-friendly means of pest control to minimize pesticide related problems and to ensure long term sustainable yield through sound ecological and sustainable management solutions. Helicoverpa armigera single nucleopolyhedrovirus (HaSNPV), a wild-type baculovirus, has the potential for use as a bio-pesticide for effective management of this pest and also incorporated successfully in integrated pest management packages in different crops. HaSNPV is specific and highly virulent to its host. The development of in-vitro production of HaSNPV is becoming increasingly important as the in-vivo production cost is expensive and labour intensive.

Konsumsi Makan dan Pertumbuhan Larva Helicoverpa armigera Toleran terhadap Pemaparan Helicoverpa armigera Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (HaNPV)
2009Co-Authors: Yayan Sanjaya, Wardono Noloperbowo, Tjandra AnggraeniAbstract:An investigation on the effect of repeated infection of Helicoverpa armigera Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (HaNPV) to Helicoverpa armigera to know its effect on Helicoverpa armigera tolerance had been carried out. On treatment with 800 (Polyhedral Inclusion Body/dose) PIB/dose indicated that the exposure of HaNPV to H. armigera larva showed no difference significantly (P> 0.05) on its LD50 to every generation exposed. In contrast, H. armigera which had been exposed by HaNPV had a higher food consumption and larval growth rate compared to H. armigera without treatment. This investigation also showed that the increasing food consumption and larvae growth rate of H. armigera was in line with the increase of HaNPV exposure. Infection of HaNPV caused a development of tolerance mechanism in H. armigera.
