  • The Human Intellect, Divine Revelation and Knowledge Based on Al- QaraÌowi’s Work: al-ÑAql wa al-ÑIlm fi al-Qur’Én al-KarÊm
    2016
    Co-Authors: Mohd Kamal Hassan
    Abstract:

While reaffirming the supremacy of Divine revelation, al-QaraÌÉwÊ explains that the sound Human Intellect has been entrusted by Divine revelation to play crucial roles in the confirmation of revealed truths and the development of all fields of Human knowledge necessary for effective and wholesome Human vicegerency on earth. There should not be, however, any conflict between revelation and reason. A fuller exposition of this epistemological dimension of the Islamic worldview is given in his book al-ÑAql wa al-ÑIlm fi al-Qur’Én al-KarÊm which was published in 1996. The importance of the use of the Human Intellect for thinking, reflection, understanding, knowing, pondering and contemplation is reflected by the Qur’Énic use of several verbs which convey the aforementioned functions. The verb Ñaqala (to use one’s intelligence, to comprehend, to understand, to think) is used in its present tense (second person plural, masculine and third person plural masculine) – taÑqilËn and yaÑqilËn – 46 times in the Qur’Én while the verbs Ñaqala, naÑqilu and yaÑqilu occur once each. The expression “afalÉ taÑqilËn ” (Will you not understand? Or Have you then no sense?) occurs 13 times. The expression is used to convey AllÉh’s exhortation or admonishment to Human beings for having double standards (Q. Al-Baqarah 2: 44); for neglecting the Hereafter and being deceived by worldly pleasures despite knowing God’s Scripture (Q. Al-AnÑÉm 6: 32, Q. Al-‘A’rÉf 7: 169, Q. YËsuf 12: 109); for ignoring the message of the Qur’Én (Q. Al-anbiyÉ ’ 21

The importance of the use of the Human Intellect for thinking, reflection, understanding, knowing, pondering and contemplation is reflected by the Qur’Enic use of several verbs which convey the aforementioned functions. The verb Naqala (to use one’s intelligence, to comprehend, to understand, to think) is used in its present tense (second person plural, masculine and third person plural masculine) – taNqilEn and yaNqilEn – 46 times in the Qur’En while the verbs Naqala, naNqilu and yaNqilu occur once each. The expression “afalE taNqilEn” (Will you not understand? Or Have you then no sense?) occurs 13 times. The expression is used to convey AllEh’s exhortation or admonishment to Human beings for having double standards (Q. YEsuf 12: 109); for ignoring the message of the Qur’En (Q. Al-anbiyE’ 21: 10); for not understanding the powers of AllEh (S.W.T) in giving life and causing death (Q. Al-Mu’minEn 23: 80); for not realizing that the false gods worshipped by Human beings could not bring benefit nor harm them (Q. Al-AnbiyE 21: 63-67). In these verses the Qur’En reprimands Human failure to use the God-given Intellect to strengthen true religious faith.

  • Artificial Stupidity
    'Informa UK Limited', 2021
    Co-Authors: Falk Michael
    Abstract:

Public debate about AI is dominated by Frankenstein Syndrome, the fear that AI will become superHuman and escape Human control. Although superintelligence is certainly a possibility, the interest it excites can distract the public from a more imminent concern: the rise of Artificial Stupidity (AS). This article discusses the roots of Frankenstein Syndrome in Mary Shelley’s famous novel of 1818. It then provides a philosophical framework for analysing the stupidity of artificial agents, demonstrating that modern intelligent systems can be seen to suffer from ‘stupidity of judgement’. Finally it identifies an alternative literary tradition that exposes the perils and benefits of AS. In the writings of Edmund Spenser, Jonathan Swift and E.T.A. Hoffmann, ASs replace, enslave or delude their Human users. More optimistically, Joseph Furphy and Laurence Sterne imagine ASs that can serve Human Intellect as maps or as pipes. These writers provide a strong counternarrative to the myths that currently drive the AI debate. They identify ways in which even stupid artificial agents can evade Human control, for instance by appealing to stereotypes or distancing us from reality. And they underscore the continuing importance of the literary imagination in an increasingly automated society

  • Artificial Intelligence as Tutoring Partner for Human Intellect
Advances in Artificial Systems for Medicine and Education, 2018
    Co-Authors: V. I. Gromyko, V. P. Kazaryan, N. S. Vasilyev, A. G. Simakin, S. S. Anosov
    Abstract:

System informational culture (SIC) has stated the next problem of post neo classical science man. How to educate trans disciplinary man of scienceful culture (universal professional) capable to interpret and model knowledge by means of perception of Humanitarian (art) and rational science unity? Co evolution of Human mind and anthropogenic environment of computer instrumental systems (IS) occurs as subjective objectization of natural science knowledge (NSK). Authors have constructed model of artificial intelligence system of universal usage (AIUU) which supports continuous tutoring with the aim to form subject of SIC. Traditional education and known e-learning approaches can’t cope with the task. Phenomenology of consciousness is grounded on development of rational part of mind. Classical universalities problem of philosophy has been resolved in the model with the help of Human ability to glottogenes in semantic direction. In this way the language of categories (LC) has been discovered. AIUU functions on the principles of knowledge without premises and educated unknowledge in the form of mathesis universales of LC. It also uses the unity of Human and NSK proper to inter discipline activity in the SIC. The system generates and maintains educational space of meanings in the form of personal ontological knowledge base (KBO). By means of KBO artificial intelligence adaptively helps student to investigate any field of knowledge. LC is applied to express semantic. Axiomatic method provides the unity of ideal (theory) and real (modeling in IS). Universal tutoring is stated to resolve the problem of any theory understanding by professional clearness reduction to its self evidence. By the example of the theory of algorithms study it is shown how the approach to education works.
