    Abstract:

    Background : Acrylic maxillofacial prosthesis made in our country fades quickly, and the effect of stains on polymer has not been documented yet. Aim :To find out a stain material that can retain its color in acrylic for a long period, by assessing its chemical interaction with the parent material. Materials and Methods : Wax cubes (2 cm x 2 cm) were made, flasked and dewaxed. The dewaxed mold was packed with stained heat cure acrylic resin (Acrylan-H). To the monomer the following stains were added - stains used for fabric painting, glass paint, acrylic emulsion, cotton dye, and hosiery dye. They were Grouped into II, III, IV, V and VI, respectively. Group I, without stain, was control. Scrapings were taken from each Group and subjected to infrared spectroscopy. Results : The spectrograph of glass paint, acrylic emulsion, and hosiery dye showed changes, while stains used for fabric painting and cotton dye did not produce much change in the spectrograph. Conclusion : Glass paint, acrylic emulsion and hosiery dye belong to the organic Group of dyes, while stains used for fabric painting and cotton dye belong to Group of Inorganic dyes. As Inorganic dye can retain the shade for a longer period, it is better to use an Inorganic Group of dyes.

  • Effect of zinc supplementation on testicular biometry in Assam local male goat

    Abstract:

    The present study was conducted in 36 Assam local male kids of 3 months of age and between 3 and 4 kg of body weight. The animals were divided into Group 1 (control Group, in which kids were grown without zinc supplementation), Group 2 (Inorganic Group, in which kids were grown with Inorganic zinc supplementation, zinc sulphate) and Group 3 (organic Group, in which kids were grown with organic zinc supplementation, zinc propionate). The experimental goats received concentrate mixture @ 50 g/day/goat up to 5 months and then @ 100 g/day/goat up to 7 months of age in addition to their free range grazing. The study revealed gradual increase of different testicular measurements i.e length, width, thickness and scrotal circumference. Both Inorganic and organic zinc supplemented Group showed higher values than that of control Group. When compared, kids receiving organic zinc-supplement had higher body weight and testicular measurements than that of Inorganic zinc-supplemented kids.

  • Effect of Zinc Supplementation on Growth Rate of Assam Local Male Kids

    An experiment was conducted on thirty six Assam local male kids of three months of age and between 3 to 4 kg of body weight. The animals were divided in to Group I (control Group, (n=12) in which kids were grown without zinc supplementation), Group II (Inorganic Group, (n=12) in which kids were grown with Inorganic zinc supplementation, zinc sulphate) and Group III (Organic Group, (n=12) in which kids were grown with organic zinc supplementation, zinc propionate). All the experimental goats received concentrate mixture @ 50 g/day/goat up to 5 months and then @ 100 g/day/goat up to 7 months of age in addition to their free range grazing. The present study revealed gradual increase of body weight with advancing age in all the Groups kids as measured at fortnightly interval from 5 to 7 months of age. The body weight of the organic zinc-supplemented kids were highest as compared to Inorganic zinc-fed Group. Lowest growth rate observed in kids of control Group. The ranged values (Mean ± S.E.) were recorded as 5.08±0.07 to 7.93±0.07 kg in control, 5.31±0.10 to 8.33±0.04 kg in Inorganic and 5.25±0.09 to 9.75±0.14 kg in organic zinc-fed Groups of kids. From the study, it can be concluded that the organic zinc source proved better choice than Inorganic one as feed supplement considering bioavailability and effectiveness.

    Background & Objectives: The present study was conducted to find out a stain material that can retain its color in acrylic for a long period, by assessing its chemical interaction with the parent material and to evaluate the color stability of commonly used acrylic resin-stain combinations after exposure to weathering. Method: This experiment was carried out on PMMA-stain combination specimens. The acrylic blocks were divided into two categories. Scrapings from first category were subjected to spectroscopy to determine the interaction of the four PMMA-stain combinations at molecular level. And scrapings from second category were tested with spectrophotometer after being subjected to weathering. The comparison between the graphs obtained was made using absorbance variance. Results: Glass paint, acrylic emulsion, and organic dye produce changes which are evident in the spectrograph. Fabric paint does not produce much change in the spectrograph. Before and after subjecting the acrylic resin-fabric paint combination to natural weathering, suggest that the colorant is most stable. On the contrary organic dye and glass paint are least stable of all the four stains. Conclusion: The addition of colors to PMMA for staining definitely produces changes in the structure of the PMMA at the molecular level. The addition of Inorganic Group stains produce change but which are insignificant, whereas the addition of organic Group stains produce changes at the molecular level which are significant. Inorganic coloring agent (fabric paint) was the most color stable over time whereas the organic colorants (glass paint, acrylic emulsion, organic dye) were the least color stable.     : Maternal zinc supplementation has a pivotal role in enhancing breast muscle development of the offspring. What is poorly defined is the impact of supplemental zinc from different sources on the offspring. Broiler breeders at 24-week-old were randomly divided into three treatments with six replicates of 40 hens each and respectively fed for 8 weeks with supplemental 0-(Group Zn/C), 100 mg/kg organic-(Group Zn/O), and 100 mg/kg Inorganic-(Group Zn/I) zinc. The male offspring from each nutritional treatment were allocated into eight cages of 14 birds each, and a commercial diet supplemented with zinc from ZnSO4 at 20 mg/kg was fed to the offsprings.
