    Abstract Using stacked-foil activation technique and gamma-ray spectrometry, excitation functions for 3He induced nuclear reactions on natV were measured. Cross-sections for natV(3He, xn)52m,gMn and natV(3He, pxn)51Cr nuclear reactions were measured up to 27 MeV utilizing the MGC-20E cyclotron of ATOMKI. The measurements establish for the first time consistent excitation curves. Comparisons with results for values derived from different theoretical codes were included. Integral Yield were calculated.

    In the frame of a systematic study of charged particle production routes of the therapeutic radioisotope (131)Cs, excitation functions of the (nat)Ba(p,x)(135,132mg)La, (ind135m,cum133m,cum133mg,cum131mg)Ba and (136mg,134mg,132,cum129)Cs reactions were measured in the 30-70 MeV energy range using stacked foil irradiation technique, activation method and gamma spectroscopy. Comparisons with new results of the ALICE-IPPE and EMPIRE-II codes and with existing data obtained with TALYS code are shown. From the measured cross section data Integral Yields were calculated and compared with experimental Integral Yield data reported in the literature. Potential use of proton induced reactions on Ba for production of (131)Cs is discussed.

    Activation data of lead are of great importance due to the widespread applications of this element in various technological fields and to the well known adverse effects to biological systems. Use of high sensitivity radioanalytical techniques allows study of uptake, distribution and speciation. Cross sections of deuteron induced nuclear reactions on lead were measured up to 40 MeV using the standard stacked foil irradiation technique and high resolution gamma-ray spectrometry. Experimental cross sections and derived Integral Yields are reported for the natPb(d,xn)203,204,205,206,207Bi, natPb(d,x)203Pb202Tl reactions. Only one set of experimental cross section data was found in the literature. The experimental data are analyzed and compared with the results of the theoretical model code ALICE-IPPE and with the experimental Integral Yield reported in the literature.

    Abstract The catalytic membrane reactor (CMR) offers added flexibility over its conventional reactor counterparts. In this study a model is developed to examine the performance of a completely back-mixed CMR for the consecutive-parallel reaction system given by 1 A+B→R 2 A+R→P+Q where the desired product is the intermediate R. The effect of segregating reactants to opposite sides of the nonpermselective membrane is examined with regard to the conversion of the main reactants A and B and the Integral Yield of R. The conversions and Yield are shown to be sensitive functions of the degree of segregation. Several factors are identified which contribute to: • • the intrinsic kinetics and catalytic acitivity (i.e. apparent reaction orders), • • the degree of mixing of the reactants A and B between the two chambers (i.e. the characteristic flow, transmembrane diffusion, and reaction time), • • the proximity of the active layer to both of the reactants, and • • the relative extents and stoichiometries of the two reactions. For a fixed conversion of B and fixed overall B A feed ratio, and for the case in which the rate of reaction 2 has a higher apparent reaction order with respect to A than reaction 1, the Integral Yield of R exceeds that for a mixed feed if A is concentrated on the support side and B is concentrated on the active layer side. The membrane in this case serves as a diffusional barrier to reactant A, thereby controlling the effective B A ratio at the catalytic layer. The Yield increase is achieved at the expense of contact time (or reactor volume). The analysis shows that it is possible to realize the same Yield increase with a mixed feed by adjusting the B A feed ratio.

    Abstract:

    The excitation function of the natW(p,xn)186Re nuclear reaction was measured as a function of the proton energy in the range of 6 - 40 MeV by using a stacked-foil activation technique combined with high-purity germanium gamma-ray spectroscopy at the MC50 cyclotron of the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences. The present results are in good agreement with the earlier reported experimental data and the theoretical calculation based on the TALYS code. The thick target Integral Yield was also deduced from the measured excitation function and stopping power of natW over the energy range from threshold up to 40 MeV.
