Regulating the Price of Ethanol in Colombia - Theory of General Interest or Private Interest Theory? (La Regulación Del Precio Del Etanol En Colombia - ¿Teoría Del Interés General O Teoría Del Interés Privado?)
Social Science Research Network, 2008Co-Authors: Romero Alvarado, Luz MarinaAbstract:The purpose of this paper is to present the results of research in which the unit of analysis was delimited to regulate the price of ethanol in Colombia, from the perspective of economic regulation, following the approaches of the Theory of general Interest versus private Interest Theory. The article studies the perception of knowledge of the rule and the position or opinion about the risk of regulatory capture in the formation of prices, a procedure in which the point was found showing the space defining the symptom risk of the regulatory capture. The paper is divided into seven parts. The first part presents the research context, the second part contains the theoretical framework and basic concepts of the Theory of economic regulation, the third part demonstrates the picture of the current state of ethanol at international and national level, the fourth part focuses key aspects of price regulation, the fifth section explains the methodological design of research, the sixth part shows the results of the study variables and finally, the last part draws some conclusions.

the public Interest Theory of regulation non existence or misinterpretation
European Journal of Law and Economics, 2003Co-Authors: Michael HantkedomasAbstract:The Public Interest Theory of regulation explains, in general terms, that regulation seeks the protection and benefit of the public at large. This paper argues that possibly the Public Interest Theory does not exist as such for reasons that will be discussed later. In addition, the paper contends that the Stigler's and Posner's characterisation of the Public Interest Theory has similarities with the welfare economics rationale for regulation. Nevertheless, the similarities do not prove or deny a connection between both the concepts of public Interest and the welfare economics rationale for regulation.

Preventing college student nonmedical prescription stimulant use: Development of vested Interest Theory-based persuasive messages.
Addictive behaviors, 2020Co-Authors: Candice D. Donaldson, Jason T. Siegel, William D. CranoAbstract:Abstract Vested Interest Theory (VIT) predicts that perceived importance and hedonic relevance of an expected behavioral outcome affects attitude-behavior consistency. Applied to college students’ nonmedical use of prescription stimulants (NUPS), the Theory posits that persuasive information that weakens vested perceptions regarding assumed advantages of stimulant misuse will reduce usage intentions. The current study developed and experimentally assessed persuasive messages that targeted perceptions of vested Interest (VI), and examined if message effectiveness varied as a function of users’ risk status. Appeals that focused on the physical harms of misuse served as the comparison condition. College student participants (N = 282) were randomly assigned to one of four message conditions. To examine group differences, data were analyzed in a 2 (VIT-based message: yes, no) × 2 (Physical harms emphasized: yes, no) × 3 (User status: resolute, vulnerable, user) between-subjects factorial design. Analyses showed that messages focused on lowering VI by convincing students that NUPS did not enhance cognitive functioning of non-ADD/ADHD students reduced perceived vested Interest (p
