Network Interface Unit to support continuous media
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1993Co-Authors: Gordon Blair, Don Hutchison, Andrew Scott, Geoff Coulson, Andrew Campbell, Doug ShepherdAbstract:The combination of high-speed multiservice networks and multimedia workstations offers considerable potential for the development of distributed multimedia applications. A key problem is how to integrate continuous-media types such as audio and video into a distributed workstation environment. An experimental system architecture based on a specialized multimedia network Interface that attempts to provide this integration is described. The design and implementation of this system are discussed in depth in terms of workstation enhancement and distributed system support. A new approach to the problem of media synchronization is introduced, and the importance of quality of service in the architecture is highlighted. Experiences encountered during this work are described, comparison with other approaches is made, and likely future developments in multimedia network interfacing are discussed

ICCD - Formal implementation verification of the bus Interface Unit for the Alpha 21264 microprocessor
Proceedings International Conference on Computer Design VLSI in Computers and Processors, 1997Co-Authors: G.p. Bischoff, K.s. Brace, S. Jain, Rahul RazdanAbstract:In this paper we present our method of formal verification of the transistor implementation of the Bus Interface Unit (BIU) of the Alpha 21264 microprocessor. We compare the logical description compiled from the Register Transfer Level (RTL) against that extracted from the custom-designed transistor-level schematics. BOVE, our BDD-based verification tool, does not require latch-to-latch correspondence, thus allowing the RTL to be more stable during the design process and giving the schematic designers freedom to implement race and timing optimizations. A unique "retiming" comparison algorithm efficiently compares partitions that include multiple pipeline stages, retiming optimizations and precharge logic. BOVE also verifies small finite-state machines that have different state encodings in the RTL and schematic.

Software model application of train Interface Unit based on Rhapsody
Railway Computer Application, 2013Co-Authors: Xiao Bao-diAbstract:The train data Interface Unit was a multithread, multiple interfacing, multifunctional device which was non-security in communications and played an important part in transmission, records and configurations for the train signal system.According to object-oriented modeling method of UML real-time system, the article analyzed the design composition of the train Interface Unit, and used the IBM Rhapsody software to establish the relationship of entities between the static model and dynamic model.More thorough research and description were made from UseCase View,Class Diagram,Sequence Diagram and StateChart Diagram. The dynamic models provided a reliable basis and software programming. The system model established by the Prototype mode have been used to the train Interface Unit, which obtained satisfactory conclusion.

A gate array implementation of a fault-tolerant bus Interface Unit based on NuBus protocols
IEEE Proceedings of the SOUTHEASTCON '91, 1991Co-Authors: Joseph G. Tront, K. TsaiAbstract:A gate array fault-tolerant bus-Interface IC based on modified NuBus protocols is described. The gate array IC design system HIGHLAND is used, along with other CAD (computer-aided design) tools such as the Berkeley VLSI Tool Set and LOGEN, to generate a layout for the bus Interface Unit. Two programs are written to Interface the necessary CAD tools. All the circuits are designed and simulated on a VAXstation 3200 (Ultrix-32) and VAX11/785 (VMS). >
