  • The ISSN review group: providing bibliographic expertise on continuing resources worldwide
'Bosniaca National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina', 2017
    Co-Authors: Oury Clément
    Abstract:

The ISSN is an identification system intended to reliably identify serials and other on-going resources worldwide. ISSN assignment is ensured by a Network of 89 national centres, coordinated by the ISSN International Centre. National Centres are also in charge of producing the bibliographic records describing the resources, records which are ingested in the ISSN Register. To that end, they follow the rules expressed in the ISSN Manual, which depends on one hand on the ISSN Standard (ISO 3297) and on the other hand on the ISBD. As the characteristics and boundaries of continuing resources are constantly evolving, especially on a digital form, the maintenance and the evolution of the Manual is a critical task. It is ensured by the ISSN Review Group, composed of experts from various National Centres. This group also provides support and advices to all National Centres. Finally, the ISSN RG aims to be involved in the evolution of the main bibliographic models, cataloguing codes (ISBD and RDA) or formats, at national and international levels, and to promote there the recognition of the unique characteristics of continuing resources

DOI http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/ange.201600785Bulky iron complexes are described that catalyze the site-selective oxidation of alkyl C-H bonds with hydrogen peroxide under mild conditions. Steric bulk at the iron center is introduced by appending trialkylsilyl groups at the meta-position of the pyridines in tetradentate aminopyridine ligands, and this effect translates into high product yields, an enhanced preferential oxidation of secondary over tertiary C-H bonds, and the ability to perform site-selective oxidation of methylenic sites in terpenoid and steroidal substrates. Unprecedented site selective oxidation at C6 and C12 methylenic sites in steroidal substrates is shown to be governed by the chirality of the catalystsFinancial support for this work was provided by the European Commission (ERC2009-StG-239910 to M.C.), the Spanish Ministry of Science (CTQ2012-37420-C02-01/BQU to M.C., and Generalitat de Catalunya (SGR862 and ICREA Academia Award to M.C.

  • revisiting the identification of serials ISSN goes linked
    Insights: The UKSG Journal, 2018
    Co-Authors: Gaelle Bequet, Clement Oury
    Abstract:

The ISSN Register provides authoritative information about serials and other continuing resources worldwide, thanks to the input provided by the 89 National Centres belonging to the ISSN Network. The ISSN Register, maintained by the ISSN International Centre, stores metadata, e.g. resource identifiers and links between resources, whose key role has been emphasized by the emergence of linked data. Access to ISSN Register information is provided by the ISSN Portal. The former portal was designed in 2004 and its search options did not allow users to discover and reuse data easily. Moreover, information was only available to ISSN customers. Since October 2016 the ISSN International Centre has been working on the implementation of a new portal, which started operating in January 2018. This new portal gives access to a sub-part of the data elements of the ISSN Register as linked open data. It also offers enriched and linked information to its subscribers, who benefit from enhanced services like the automation of data ingestion. Features such as data search and display and retrieval have also been greatly improved. Via interactions with other data repositories, the ISSN Register reuses additional information to foster information discoverability in the new ISSN Portal.

    Cataloging & Classification Quarterly, 2017

    Abstract:

ABSTRACTISSN identifiers reliably identify serials and other ongoing resources worldwide. The ISSN Register, maintained by the ISSN International Centre, is an authoritative database providing access to 1.9 million ISSN records, and fed by a network of 89 National Centres. This article presents the “Data Quality Plan” currently implemented by the ISSN International Centre: its objectives, its assumptions and the methodology it follows. It focuses on several projects, ran in collaboration with stakeholders of the serials supply chain or members of the ISSN Network, intended to improve quality in three domains: bibliographic data, coverage of the ISSN Register, processes and workflows.

  • ISSN: Transitioning to linked data
    2016

    Abstract:

ISSN numbers reliably identify all types of continuing resources worldwide: in 2007, the scope of the standard, originally limited to serials, was extended so as to also include ongoing integrating resources. Bibliographic records describing resources identified by an ISSN are produced by ISSN national centres – there are also in charge of their updates. ISSN records are regularly sent to the ISSN Register, a bibliographic database which currently contains more than 1.9 million records. The Register is maintained by the ISSN International Centre, which is also in charge of providing access to its bibliographic information through innovative tools and services. The ISSN International Centre sees linked data principles and tools as a prominent way to distribute information from its own Register; and more generally bibliographic information about continuing resources. It seeks also to harness the tremendous opportunities of re-using data from other organizations, belonging or not to the library world, in order to enhance its knowledge on its own data, and to propose better services. The ISSN International Centre has therefore launched several projects related to that domain. On one hand, it has participated to the development of PRESS OO , an extension of the FRBR OO ontology for continuing resources. On the other hand, it has launched ROAD, the Registry of Open Access Resources, which disseminates bibliographic information on open access publications in the web of data. These two experiments have helped the ISSN International Centre to start setting up its linked data policy – or policies: various data models will be designed to fit the needs of the different users; different services and tools will be provided to free users and to customers of the ISSN Portal.
