The Impacts of Land Utilization on Earth Land Ecosystem and the Strategies
Journal of Desert Research, 2000Co-Authors: Zhao WenAbstract:Land Utilization has increasingly caused some serious ecological consequences such as biological invasion, loss of biodiversity and alternation of carbon, nitrogen and water cycles in Earth terrestrial ecosystems, which brings great challenge to our human sustainable development. In this article, worldwide Land Utilization especially intensive agriculture and their impacts on the biological invasion, loss of diversity and biogeochemistry cycles including carbon, nitrogen and water cycle were reviewed. Additionally, how do the species response to the disturbances of Land Utilization were presented. The results show that: First, Land Utilization especially intensive agriculture speeds up the biological invasion and loss of biodiversity and causes the alternation of structures of terrestrial ecosystem; Second, biogeochemistry cycles such as carbon, nitrogen and water are also accelerated by Land Utilization which lead to alternation of terrestrial ecosystem function; Third, species which are similar to one another in their effects on ecosystem processes but differ in their response to the environment changes have stronger ability to keep ecosystem stable than those that similar in their response to the environment changes; Finally we propose that under establishing sustainable Land Utilization framework, the development of sustainable agriculture and restoration of degraded ecosystems are the important strategies to ameliorate the negative Land Utilization impacts on the Earth terrestrial ecosystems.

a container yard storage strategy for improving Land Utilization and operation efficiency in a transshipment hub port
European Journal of Operational Research, 2012Co-Authors: Xinjia Jiang, Ek Peng ChewAbstract:This paper studies the storage yard management problem in a busy transshipment hub, where intense loading and unloading activities have to be considered at the same time. The need to handle huge volumes of container traffic and the scarcity of Land in the container port area pose serious challenges for the port operator to provide efficient services. A consignment strategy with a static yard template has been used to reduce the level of reshuffles in the yard, but it sacrifices on Land Utilization because of exclusive storage space reservation. Two space-sharing approaches are proposed to improve on the Land Utilization through dynamic reservation of storage space for different vessels during different shifts. Meanwhile, workload assignment among reserved spaces will also satisfy the high-low workload balancing protocol to reduce traffic congestion in the yard. A framework which integrates space reservation and workload assignment is proposed. Experimental results show that the framework is able to provide solutions for containers handling within much less storage space, while guarantee the least yard crane deployment.

A STUDY OF TYPES AND MODELS OF Land-Utilization TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION
Economic Geography, 2003Co-Authors: Qian Wen-rongAbstract:The technology of agricultural Land Utilization is a multi-level system, which plays an important role in enlarging area of cultivated Land, improving Land Utilization rate and quality of cultivated Land. By analyzing the two models of technical selection under "the spontaneous effect of market mechanism" and under "the guidance of the government", the author holds that there exists an obvious "overflowing effect" in the Land Utilization and "externalities" in technology application. In addition, the price prevision of the agricultural Land caused by lower comparative profits of China's agriculture always results in the disagreement of direction of technological progress under market mechanism and the scarcity of resource, hence the lower efficiency of the resource allocation is caused. Therefore, it is necessary and effective to introduce the guidance of government.
