Parasitoeds (Hym.: Aphelinidae) of three scale insects (Hom.: Diaspididae) in a citrus grove in valencia, spain
The parasitoids of Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell), Lepidosaphes beckii (Newman) and Parlatoria pergandii Comstock were studied in a Navel orange grove in Valencia, Spain during three years. Four species of Aphytis were identified on yellow sticky traps, Aphytis chrysomphali (Mercet), Aphytis melinus Debach , Aphytis Lepidosaphes Compere and Aphytis hispanicus (Mercet). No consistent annual pattern was observed in the flight of adults. A. melinus , introduced some years earlier in the grove, was found in very low numbers and showed no signs of increasing and displacing A. chrysomphali as a parasitoid of A. aurantii . On female scales of the three species sampled at regular intervals from leaves, twigs and fruit, the mean annual rate of active parasitism was similar and ranged from 3.5% to 8%. P. pergandii males were not parasitized, in L. beckii parasitism was usually much lower in male than in female scales, and in A. aurantii it was higher in the males. Scales of the three species were less parasitized on twigs than on leaves, and so were L. beckii on fruit. The annual trend of parasitism by Aphytis on scales fluctuated without a definite pattern. Parasitism by Encarsia inquirenda (Silvestri), an endoparasitoid of P. pergandii , was more stable throughout the year and increased steadily from year to year.

Bol. San. Veg. Plagas, 18(1): 11-30. The parasitism by Hymenoptera of the genus Aphytis on three diaspidid scales, Lepidosaphes beckii (Newman), Parlatoria pergandei (Comstock) and Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell) has been studied in a Washington Navel orange orchard from El Puig (Valencia, Spain). Insect hosts from branches, leaves and fruits, and also parasites from yellow sticky traps, have been sampled regularly in 1988 and 1990. A total of 1.300 specimens of Aphytis have been identified from the yellow traps, included in 4 species: Aphytis hispanicus (Mercet), parasite of P. pergandei, Aphytis Lepidosaphes Compere, parasite of L. beckii, and Aphytis melinus DeBach and Aphytis chrysomphali (Mercet), parasites of A. aurantii. A. hispanicus and A. Lepidosaphes keep a variable flight along the vegetative period, between March and November. A. chrysomphali shows two maximums of flight, at the end of winter (before than the other species) and in Autum. Only 11 specimens of A. melinus have been captured, most of them in Summer. In P. pergandei and L. beckii almost only females are parasitized, while in A. aurantii parasitism in similar in both sexes. Hosts on branches are less parasitized than on leaves. The active parasitism oscillates during the year in P. pergandei and L. beckii in similar values in the two years of sampling, reaching its peak in Summer 1988 and Autumn 1990 with values of up to 20 %. The parasitism on A. aurantii shows three year maximums, in March, June and September. The relative importance of these maximums differs between males and females of the host.

Comparative efficacy of some insecticides against purple scale insect, Lepidosaphes beckii (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) and its parasitoid in citrus orchard in Egypt.
Egyptian Academic Journal of Biological Sciences. A Entomology, 2012Co-Authors: Y Dewer, S Abdel-razak, A BarakatAbstract:Five insecticide compounds Azadirachtin (Nimbecidine ® ); Pyriproxyfen (Admiral ® ); Acetamiprid (Mospilan ® ); Emamectin benzoate (Proclaim ® ) and summer mineral oil (star oil ® ) and their mixtures were evaluated for controlling the purple scale insect, Lepidosaphes beckii (Newman) (Hemiptera: Diaspididae) as well as its parasitoid Aphytis Lepidosaphes Compere (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) on growing citrus orchard, Citrus sinensis L. (Rutacea). This work has been carried out in the experimental farm of faculty of agriculture, Sabahia, Alexandria, Egypt, during two successive seasons 2009 and 2010. The obtained results revealed that star oil ® in combination with Admiral ® and Nimbecidine ® have given the highest reduction (%) values for L. beckii and its parasitoid, A. Lepidosaphes during the two experimentally years. In 2009, the calculated reduction % values for L. beckii and A. Lepidosaphes were (99.78 and 99.50%) and (96.75 and 97.29%), whereas in 2010 were (99.73 and 99.34%) and (94.40 and 96.46%) for the two combinations, respectively. On the other hand (Mospilan ® ) and (Proclaim ®) show less reduction percentages to the parasitoid during the two successive years. Whereas in 2009 were 54.56 and 73.19 %, in 2010 were 43.47 and 71.25 %, respectively.

Colonization of growing fruit by the armored scales Lepidosaphes beckii, Parlatoria pergandii and Aonidiella aurantii (Hom., Diaspididae)
Journal of Applied Entomology, 2004Co-Authors: Ma E. Rodrigo, Ferran Garcia-marí, J. M. Rodríguez‐reina, T. OlmedaAbstract:: The process of invasion of the fruit surface by three species of armored scale insects [Lepidosaphes beckii (Newman), Parlatoria pergandii Comstock and Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell)], was studied in citrus orchards in Valencia, Spain. Three periods of intense crawler migration were detected annually for L. beckii and P. pergandii. Abundance of crawlers increased throughout the year and they moved outwards in the tree canopy. The fruit was continuously invaded during the period of fruit growth, starting at a very early stage of fruit development, by crawlers of the first generation of all the three species. Differences in fruit invasion and settling behaviour were found between the three species. First-generation crawlers tended to settle under the fruit calyx in L. beckii and P. pergandii, and on the exposed fruit surface in A. aurantii. During the second generation, most A. aurantii scales originated from reproducing females already settled on the fruit, whereas in L. beckii and P. pergandii new scales came preferentially from other tree substrates or from females settled under the fruit calyx. These findings suggest changes to optimize the timing of chemical sprays for controlling the scales.

Keragaman Serangga Musuh Alami Kutu Sisik Lepidosaphes beckii Pada Tanaman Jeruk Keprok (Citrus Nobilis) Dan Jeruk Manis (Citrus Sinensis)
