Linguistic Value soft set based approach to multiple criteria group decision making
Applied Soft Computing, 2017Co-Authors: Bingzhen SunAbstract:Abstract Molodtsov's soft set theory provides a general mathematical tool for dealing with uncertainty in decision-making. In the past few years, a large number of generalized soft set concepts and approaches to decision-making have been studied by many researchers. This paper considers a new generalization of Molodtsov's soft set concept, named Linguistic Value soft set, by introducing a Linguistic variable to the definition of soft set theory. Then, the information in several soft sets can be saved in one Linguistic Value soft set. We define basic notions such as the equality of two Linguistic Value soft sets, and the subsets and complement of a Linguistic soft set. Next, we present the binary operations for Linguistic Value soft set theory. Then, we discuss the properties of Linguistic Value soft set for the basic notions and binary operations. Further, we define the concept of Linguistic Value soft matrix and choice Value matrix of a Linguistic Value soft set, and we discuss the operation laws. By using these new definitions of Linguistic Value soft set theory, we establish a new approach to multiple criteria group decision-making problems with Linguistic Value information. We present a detailed description of the decision-making problem and the decision steps. Finally, the validity of the proposed decision-making method is tested by a numerical example with the background of an evaluation decision problem for automobiles. The main contribution of this paper is twofold. One is to propose the concept of Linguistic Value soft set and establish the main results of the theoretical aspect for the new generalization form. Another is to present a new approach to multiple attribute group decision-making based on Linguistic Value soft set.

In New World countries, one language, usually that of a former colonial power, is the de jure or de facto official language and seldom does translation feature as a national policy in its own right. Accounts for the provision of translation in a country such as Australia are to be found elsewhere. This article adopts a “looking sideways” approach to account for the provision of translation in a range of settings – healthcare, welfare, court/police, etc. In these areas, and since the introduction of multiculturalism in the mid-1970s, Linguistic diversity of the Australian populace has been a component of policy formulation and the provision of translation has become a means for policy to be implemented. A national policy on languages that expressly includes translation does exist in Australia. However, it is the cross-portfolio convention of addressing language barriers in the provision of government services and beyond that accounts for translation. It is here conceptualized not so much as a cultural-Linguistic Value, but as a means for service delivery.

In this article we created 21 criteria for selecting the international tourist hotel location acquired from literatures review and practical investigations. And the methods of fuzzy set theory, Linguistic Value, hierarchical structure analysis, and fuzzy analytic hierarchy process are used to consolidate decision-makers’ assessments about criteria weightings. Finally, an empirical study for identifying the international tourist hotel location selection in Taiwan is conducted to demonstrate the computational process and effectiveness of FMCDM proposed by this paper.

Journal of Software, 2001Co-Authors: Lu JianAbstract:The issue of quantitative association rules in large databases is discussed in this paper. In order to soften partition boundary of the domain, the relational fuzzy c means algorithm is adopted to determine two parameters of normal fuzzy numbers, then the normal fuzzy number model is adopted to partition the domain of the quantitative attributes and a series of Linguistic Value association rules are generated. The mining method of the Linguistic Value association rules is also provided. Because the abstract concepts can be well expressed with the Linguistic Values, the mined association rules are more abstract and easy to understand.
