Baseballs, tennis balls, Livestock Farm manure, the IDH1 mutation, endothelial cell proliferation and hypoxic pseudopalisading (granulomatous) necrosis: Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis and the epidemiology, cellular metabolism and his
Open Veterinary Journal, 2019Co-Authors: Pierce, Ellen S.Abstract:An increased rate of diffuse gliomas, including glioblastoma, has been noted in Livestock Farmers in Western countries. Some researchers have suggested that a zoonotic virus or bacteria present in the Livestock animal’s feces or manure may be a possible etiologic factor. Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP), the cause of a chronic enteropathy in domestic Livestock and a probable zoonosis, is heavily excreted in an infected animal’s feces or manure, contaminating soil and ground on the animal’s Farm. Once excreted in an animal’s feces, MAP lasts indefinitely in a dormant but viable form, and easily spreads outside Farms to the surrounding environment. MAP’s presence throughout the soil in countries where MAP infection of domestic Livestock is extensive and longstanding may explain the increased rates of glioblastoma in tennis and baseball players who handle balls coated with MAP-contaminated dirt. MAP infection is consistent with glioblastoma’s two defining histopathologic characteristics: endothelial cell proliferation and pseudopalisading necrosis. MAP is a non-tuberculous or atypical mycobacterium, which can cause hypoxic necrotizing granulomas, granulomas that resemble areas of pseudopalisading necrosis. There are known bacterial causes of endothelial cell proliferation. Almost unique amongst intracellular bacteria, MAP’s variant isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) enzyme, a type 2-oxoglutarate ferredoxin oxidoreductase, can use a host cell’s cytosolic α-ketoglutarate in its own Krebs or tricarboxylic acid cycle. MAP’s ability to use a host cell’s α-ketoglutarate may explain the survival advantage of the cytosolic IDH1 enzyme mutation for patients with diffuse gliomas including glioblastoma, astrocytoma, and oligdendroglioma, a mutation that results in a reduced supply of cytosolic α-ketoglutarate. MAP may therefore be one possible infectious cause of glioblastoma and the other histologic categories of diffuse glioma. Keywords: Diffuse gliomas infectious etiology, Endothelial cell proliferation, Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis, Necrotizing atypical mycobacterial granulomas, Transdifferentiation

balance energetico de dos aperos de labranza en un fluvisol para el cultivo del boniato ipomoea batatas lam
Revista Ciencias Técnicas Agropecuarias, 2013Co-Authors: Yosvel Enrique Olivet Rodríguez, Daimara Cobas HernándezAbstract:This research work was carried out at the agricultural and Livestock Farm “Ranulfo Leyva Pacheco” which belongs to the enterprise of multiple cultivations “Paquito Rosales Benitez”. The soil preparation process for the cultivation of sweet potato not only changes soil physical properties but also leads to high energy consumption, especially in the labor of soil tillage with disk plow, where a great percentage of fuel is consumed. The objective of this work has been to evaluate an alternative Farming implement of vertical and horizontal cut to the traditional with disk plow in soil ploughing, which allows reducing energy consumption of the process under the conditions of a Fluvisol and also Carbon Dioxide emissions that reach the atmosphere. The treatments considered have been traditional soil ploughing, T1, which consisted in ploughing the soil with the ADI-3M disk plow, and soil ploughing, T2, which consisted in ploughing the soil with a multi-plowing machine. Treatment T2 presented less direct use energy consumption (0,83 GJ ha-1) and indirect use energy consumption (0,08 GJ ha-1), with a total consumption of 0,91 GJ ha-1, causing the 66% reduction of CO2 emissions, motivated by a 69% reduction of fuel consumption (20,2 L ha-1) regarding the ploughing with disk plow with 29,2 L ha-1 under the same soil and climatic conditions.

Evaluación de la labor de rotura con dos aperos de labranza para el cultivo del boniato (Ipomoea batatas Lam) en un Fluvisol Evaluation of the ploughing up with two Farming tools for the cultivation of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas Lam) in a Fluvisol
2012Co-Authors: Yosvel Enrique Olivet Rodríguez, Alfonso Ortiz Rodríguez, Daimara Cobas Hernández, Asdrubal Blanco Blanco, Erwin Herrera GonzálezAbstract:This research work was carried out at the agricultural and Livestock Farm “Ranulfo Leyva Pacheco” which belongs to the enterprise of multiple cultivations “Paquito Rosales Benitez”. The feeding of national population and the reduction of imports motivate the achievement of agricultural and Livestock plans all over the country. Amongst these is the production of food as a short cycle cultivation, which guarantees a sustainable production in a short period of time. The objective of this work has been to evaluate an alternative Farming implement of vertical and horizontal cut to the traditional with disk plow in soil ploughing, which allows increasing productivity in a shorter period of time, reducing fuel consumption and exploitation direct expenses under the conditions of a Fluvisol. The treatments considered have been traditional soil ploughing, T1, which consisted in ploughing the soil with the (ADI-3M) disk plow, and soil ploughing, T2, which consisted in ploughing the soil with a multi-plowing machine. Treatment T2 presented the highest values of clean, operative time productivity, without any failures and exploitative and also the lowest fuel consumption (20,2 L ha-1) regarding the ploughing with disk plow with 29,2 L ha-1 under the same soil and climatic conditions, as well as less exploitation direct expense of 274,14 pesos per hectare, motivated by a 69% reduction of fuel consumption.

whole Farm economic risk and resource use trade offs associated with integrating forages into crop Livestock systems in western china
Agricultural Systems, 2015Co-Authors: Adam M Komarek, Lindsay W Bell, Jeremy Whish, Michael Robertson, William D BellottiAbstract:Substantial initiatives are occurring in developing countries to integrate forage crops into crop–Livestock systems to improve Farmer livelihoods and reduce soil erosion. In particular, government authorities in western China focus on improving Farmer Livestock profits through greater forage crop production. We examined the whole-Farm profit, downside risk, labour-use efficiency and feed balance effects of forage crop intensification on two simulated crop–Livestock Farm types in western China. Our methodology combined crop and Livestock simulation modelling with whole-Farm stochastic budgeting to capture both price and climate variability. We modelled the whole-Farm effects of (1) introducing either forage vetch (Vicia sativa), forage oats (Avena sativa), or grain soybean (Glycine max) into current wheat (Triticum aestivum)-maize (Zea mays) systems and (2) replacing maize in current wheat-maize systems with either forage wheat, forage maize, or forage soybean. System intensification through incorporating a forage crop into current grain-cropping systems can increase average simulated profits without increasing downside risk on the simulated Farms. As opposed to adding a forage crop into current grain-cropping systems, replacing a grain crop with a forage crop in current grain-cropping systems had a negative effect on profits, downside risk, and labour-use efficiency. Trade-offs existed between labour-use efficiency and profit as forage intensification increased labour demands. These effects were context specific, with greater positive profit effects of forage intensification for the higher-rainfall Farm type. Overall, forage intensification in these systems benefited the households, but adoption will depend on household preferences and local agro-ecological and market factors. We demonstrated the importance of exploring proposed intensification options across different locations to capture impacts across diverse contexts. Providing these context-specific insights and exploring trade-offs within systems can help better understand livelihood improvement pathways. In locations with strong competing uses for labour, developing labour-saving practices appears critical.
