Development and implementation of Adaptive Fuzzy PID Controller (AFPIDC) for flow Control application

IbrahimAbstract:In general, this project aims to enhance the capability of conventional PID Controller by designing and implementing the Adaptive Fuzzy PID Controller (AFPIDC) for Flow Control Application. The implementation has been done onto mobile pilot plant flow Control process unit which consist s of several flow measurements (Orifice, Coriolis and Vortex Flow Meter). Currently, Controlling and tuning is done via KONICS PID Controller that is mounted on the Local Control Panel. However, current Controller does not provide faster response and need to be manually tuned. Thus, the AFPIDC is developed and implemented as an alternative to the existing PID Controller with a DCS-HMI interface using MATLAB/Simulink for the pilot plant. Fuzzy Logic reasoning is used to produce adaptive PID gain that will be added up with the initial PID gain. Overall, the Control performances of each Controller (PID and AFPIDC) will be compared and analyzed for flow Control application.

This paper aims to shed some light on the Development and Implementation of Fuzzy Logic Controller for Flow Control Application. The development will be done onto the PcA SimExpert Mobile Pilot Plant SE231B-21 Flow Control and Calibration Process Unit. This mobile plant contains flow measurement instruments such as Coriolis, Vortex and Orifice Flow meters. Currently, Control and tuning is done via KONICS PID Controller that is mounted on the Local Control Panel. This project aims to develop a Control strategy using a fuzzy based Controller as an alternative to the existing PID Controller. Some of the required tools are the USB-1208 FS Personal Measurement Device and MATLAB Control/Fuzzy Logic Toolbox. The Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) are developed using the Mamdani approach. This involves designing and tuning of the membership functions, input/output rules, and the defuzzification technique. Overall, this project aims to show that a fuzzy logic Controller is a good alternative to a PID Controller, for flow measurement and Control applications.

GIS intelligent Local Control Panel in compact substations
2012 China International Conference on Electricity Distribution, 2012Co-Authors: Chao-qun Li, Xi-cai ZhaoAbstract:In order to further save the land and improve the substation automation, a DSAS scheme based on intelligent GIS LCP (Local Control Panel) is proposed. A GIS intelligent device is developed, which integrates traditional GIS LCP functions and the bay electrical monitoring and Control functions. The GIS intelligent device samples and processes the bay current and voltage signal, and sends them to the station level system via Ethernet. The device achieves inner-bay interlocking, phase discrepancy trip and synchronism checking by software. The device can monitor GIS status including position and SF6 density, and forecast the remaining life of GIS. The GIS intelligent device, together with the bay protection devices are installed on the same Panel-GIS intelligent LCP, next to the GIS. The GIS Intelligent LCP connects to GIS via standardized plugs and sockets, and communicates with the station level system in Control room via optic-fibre cables. Compared with the traditional scheme, this scheme saves the land, reduces the cables, simplifies the secondary circuits and improves their reliability. It will be widely applied to compact substation in large cities and hydropower plants.

Development of intelligent gas insulated switchgear using electronic technology

SongAbstract:The digital Control Panel and electronic instrument based microprocessor techniques for GIS (gas insulated switchgear) has been developed. Extensive electronic upgrading including digital Control mechanisms permits the entire system to be made more compact compared to conventional systems using electromagnetic relays and magnetic core, and enables monitoring functions to be integrated within the power network system. This system is composed of hardware units and software programs. The hardware units employ digital electronic circuits and microprocessor based digital Controller. The software programs implement the functions of Local Control Panel for GIS. This greatly improves reliability and availability of the GIS Control circuits. New technologies have to be developed to provide users with better service quality in terms of precision, operating safety and interoperability. In this paper, digital Control Panel and electronic instrument as components of intelligent GIS are described about overview and results of the various performance tests.

Condition Assessment of a Gas Insulated Substation

The scoring and weighting techniques are applied for condition assessment. The component of HV substation such as circuit breaker, disconnecting switch, earthing switch, high speed earthing switch, current transformer, voltage transformer and Local Control Panel are evaluated. The 5 bays of a 115 kV GIS substation in industrial area are evaluated as example in the assessment program. The results show the health index of components, health index of bay and health index of substation in form of percentage. The known health index of substation and its component is useful information to manage the maintenance activity with the associated cost and to plan the effective maintenance scheduling for HV substation.
