  • Mechanisms and treatment of primary angle closure: a review
    Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 2011
Co-Authors: Weng T Ng Mph Franzco
    Abstract:

Angle closure can recur following peripheral iridotomy in up to 58% of cases, due to plateau iris syndrome, lens disproportion or ciliary block. Ciliary block glaucoma is an important differential diagnosis of shallow anterior chamber, angle closure and high intraocular pressure, which may occur spontaneously or following laser or surgery. Some underlying mechanisms of ciliary block glaucoma remain poorly understood but lens-ciliary body apposition and anterior hyaloid changes with increased hydraulic resistance are major pathogenic factors. An understanding of the pathogenic factors facilitates early recognition of ciliary block glaucoma, and aids a Logical Sequence of intervention. We review the mechanisms of post-iridotomy angle closure and propose a stepwise treatment strategy for these conditions.

  • AMPS—Theory of commercial application management system and its implementation
    Journal of Computer Applications, 2007
    Co-Authors: Zhan Jianfeng
    Abstract:

Commercial applications are playing an important role in information society, requiring an effective and powerful management system to ensure availability and QoS of these applications. In this paper, a set of complete and systematic theory on managing commercial applications was presented, according to Logical Sequence: description, monitoring, analysis and maintenance. Then a system named Application Management Platform Service (AMPS) was designed and implemented according to the established theory. Afterwards, the system of AMPS was verified to have improved the availability and QoS of controlled applications via a series of experiments.

  • Reversed (Chrono-)Logical Sequence in Isaiah 1-39: Some Implications for Theories of Redaction
Journal for the Study of the Old Testament, 2010
    Co-Authors: Eric Nels Ortlund
    Abstract:

This article examines a structural phenomenon in Isaiah 1—39 in which different sections of a prophecy are deliberately placed out of order either Logically or chronoLogically. After an initial example from chs. 24—27, chs. 11, 30 and 2 are discussed. In each of these three cases, it is argued that later passages in the respective chapters (11.11-16, 30.27-33 and 2.6-22) describe necessary preconditions for the earlier passages (11.1-9, 30.18-26 and 2.1-5) to come into being—more specifically, YHWH's defeat of the nations must occur before creation is renewed, Israel dwells secure on Zion, and the nations come to worship there. The implications of this analysis for theories of the redaction of these three chapters are then considered, and a tentative conclusion reached that assignation of the various passages of these chapters to different centuries is less likely than hypothesizing a simpler compositional history, in which the different passages making up these chapters were written with each other in mi...

  • Water factory 21 - the Logical Sequence
    Desalination, 1994
    Co-Authors: William R. Mills, Ian C. Watson
    Abstract:

Abstract The Orange County Water District Water Reclamation and Seawater Barrier Project has operated successfully since 1976. Water injected throughout the 17 years of operation has consistently met all requirements of the discharge permit issued by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Santa Ana Region. Furthermore, the injection water has not caused any drinking water standards to be violated at any of the monitoring wells or any potable supply wells. The quality of injected water is improved as it travels through the confined aquifer system. Data from the monitoring wells shows that organic material as measured by both TOC and COD is greatly reduced in the confined aquifers. Adsorption and/or bioLogical action could account for the observed removals. In recognition of health and regulatory concerns over TOC, the Orange County Water District has established an expanded research and monitoring program aimed at characterizing unidentified organics in wastewater and then studying their state in the saturated zone affected by injection operations. This research, along with the experimental treatment processes described above, will allow the District to design cost effective facilities that fully protect public water supplies.
