  • software Maintenance maturity model smmm the software Maintenance Process model
Journal of Software Maintenance and Evolution: Research and Practice, 2005
Co-Authors: Alain April, Alain Abran, Jane Huffman Hayes, Reiner R Dumke
    Abstract:

SUMMARY We address the assessment and improvement of the software Maintenance function by proposing improvements to the software Maintenance standards and introducing a proposed maturity model for daily software Maintenance activities: Software Maintenance Maturity Model (SM mm ). The software Maintenance function suffers from a scarcity of management models to facilitate its evaluation, management, and continuous improvement. The SM mm addresses the unique activities of software Maintenance while preserving a structure similar to that of the CMMi ©4 maturity model. It is designed to be used as a complement to this model. The SM mm is based on practitioners’ experience, international standards, and the seminal literature on software Maintenance. We present the model’s purpose, scope, foundation, and architecture, followed by its initial validation. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

  • sm sup cmm model to evaluate and improve the quality of the software Maintenance Process
Conference on Software Maintenance and Reengineering, 2004
Co-Authors: Alain April, Alain Abran, Reiner R Dumke
    Abstract:

Software Maintenance function suffers from a scarcity of management models that would facilitate its evaluation, management and continuous improvement. This paper is part of a series of papers that presents a software Maintenance capability maturity model (SM/sup CMM/). The contributions of this specific paper are: 1) to describe the key references of software Maintenance; 2) to present the model update Process conducted during 2003; and 3) to present, for the first time, the updated architecture of the model.

  • knowledge problems in corrective software Maintenance a case study
Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2012
    Co-Authors: Maria Alaranta, Stefanie Betz
    Abstract:

Corrective software Maintenance derives its importance not only from the huge costs it induces but also its importance to customer relations and ultimately, the software company's revenues. In this paper, we address the knowledge problems in the corrective software Maintenance Process by applying the lens of Transactive Memory System (TMS). TMS is a theory of knowledge coordination in groups. We carry out a case study of the troubled corrective software Maintenance Process of a multinational ICT company. We discuss our empirical case from three key TMS manifestations: specialization, credibility and coordination. Our results show that TMS could offer a fruitful avenue for understanding and managing knowledge problems that lead to poor performance in such a Process. Designers of a global software Maintenance Process should not only pay attention to the Process structure and supporting IS but also to facilitating a well-functioning TMS.

  • measuring and evaluating Maintenance Process using reliability risk and test metrics
    Computer Standards & Interfaces, 1999
    Co-Authors: Norman F Schneidewind
    Abstract:

In analyzing the stability of a software Maintenance Process, it is important that it is not treated in isolation from the reliability and risk of deploying the software that result from applying the Process. Furthermore, we need to consider the efficiency of the test effort that is a part of the Process and a determinate of reliability and risk of deployment. The relationship between product quality and Process capability and maturity has been recognized as a major issue in software engineering based on the premise that improvements in the Process will lead to higher-quality products. To this end, we have been investigating an important facet of Process capability-stability-as defined and evaluated by trend, change and shape metrics, across releases and within a release. Our integration of product and Process measurement serves the dual purpose of using metrics to assess and predict reliability and risk and to evaluate Process stability. We use the NASA Space Shuttle flight software to illustrate our approach.

International Conference on Software Maintenance, 1997

In analyzing the stability of a Maintenance Process, it is important that it not be treated in isolation from the reliability and risk of deploying the software that result from applying the Process. Furthermore, we need to consider the efficiency of the test effort that is a part of the Process and a determinate of reliability and risk of deployment. Therefore, we integrated these factors into a unified approach. Our contribution to Maintenance is the integration and measurement of these factors so that the influence of Maintenance actions and test effort on the reliability of the software and the risk of deploying it can be assessed. We use a safety critical application of national visibility-the NASA Space Shuttle-as an example application of the unified approach

  • motivating the corrective Maintenance maturity model cm sup 3
International Conference on Engineering of Complex Computer Systems, 2001
    Co-Authors: Mira Kajkomattsson
    Abstract:

Many Process models have been hitherto suggested. Very few of them, however, deal with the most utilised Process today: the Maintenance Process. The article presents and motivates the "Corrective Maintenance Maturity Model" (CM/sup 3/), a Process model entirely dedicated to only software Maintenance.
