  • Cycloartane triterpenoid saponins from water soluble of Passiflora edulis Sims and their antidepressant-like effects.
    Journal of ethnopharmacology, 2013
Co-Authors: Cong Wang, Jian-hua Shang, Huai Xiao, Wei-wei Fan, Fa-wu Dong, Jun Zhou
    Abstract:

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Various species of genus Passiflora have been used as traditional folk medicines owing to their sedative and anti-hypertensive properties. Passiflora edulis Sims most widely grown in the warm temperate for their fragrant fruits and their twigs and leaves are used as a folk medicine for treating both anxiety and Nervousness in American countries. The present study was to evaluate the antidepressant-like effect and the active components of this plant.

  • c dideoxyhexosyl flavones from the stems and leaves of passiflora edulis sims
    Food Chemistry, 2013
Co-Authors: Cong Wang, Wei-wei Fan, Fa-wu Dong, Liping Yang, Huairong Luo, Jun Zhou
    Abstract:

The stems and leaves of Passiflora edulis Sims, are used as a folk medicine for treating both anxiety and Nervousness in American countries. Phytochemical investigation of the n-butanol (n-BuOH) fraction of this plant led to the isolation of four new 2,6-dideoxyhexose-C-glycosyl flavones, including luteolin-8-C-beta-digitoxopyranosyl-4'-O-B-D-glucopyranoside (1), apigenin-8-C-beta-digitoxopyranoside (2), apigenin-8-C-beta-boivinopyranoside (3) and luteolin-8-C-beta-boivinopyranoside (4), together with five known compounds (5-9). The structures of these compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods. All compounds were evaluated for their neurite outgrowth enhancing activities and the results indicated that luteolin (7) enhanced NGF-induced neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells at 50.0 mu M. • estradiol and drospirenone for climacteric symptoms in postmenopausal women a double blind randomized placebo controlled study of the safety and efficacy of three dose regimens
    Climacteric, 2004
    Co-Authors: R Schurmann, T Holler, N Benda
    Abstract:

Method A randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of drospirenone (1, 2 or 3 mg) combined with estradiol (1 mg) in the treatment of climacteric symptoms in healthy postmenopausal women. Results The frequency of hot flushes was significantly decreased in all treatment groups (range 86–90%) in comparison to placebo (45%, p ⩽ 0.001) and remained suppressed at 16 weeks. Treatment with drospirenone and estradiol also decreased the intensity and severity of sweating, sleep problems, depression, Nervousness, and urogenital symptoms. Most adverse events were mild or moderate, with similar rates observed in all groups. No serious adverse events or clinically significant laboratory abnormalities attributed to treatment occurred. Conclusion These results demonstrate that the combinations of 1, 2, and 3 mg drospirenone with 1 mg estradiol are safe and effective for the treatment of climacteric symptoms.
