  • zeolites as catalysts in Oil Refining
    Chemical Society Reviews, 2014
    Co-Authors: Ana Primo, Hermenegildo Garcia
    Abstract:

Oil is nowadays the main energy source and this prevalent position most probably will continue in the next decades. This situation is largely due to the degree of maturity that has been achieved in Oil Refining and petrochemistry as a consequence of the large effort in research and innovation. The remarkable efficiency of Oil Refining is largely based on the use of zeolites as catalysts. The use of zeolites as catalysts in Refining and petrochemistry has been considered as one of the major accomplishments in the chemistry of the XXth century. In this tutorial review, the introductory part describes the main features of zeolites in connection with their use as solid acids. The main body of the review describes important Refining processes in which zeolites are used including light naphtha isomerization, olefin alkylation, reforming, cracking and hydrocracking. The final section contains our view on future developments in the field such as the increase in the quality of the transportation fuels and the coprocessing of increasing percentage of biofuels together with Oil streams. This review is intended to provide the rudiments of zeolite science applied to Refining catalysis.

  • Gas chromatographic characterization of soapstocks from vegetable Oil Refining
    Journal of Chromatography A, 1998
    Co-Authors: Michael K. Dowd
    Abstract:

Gas chromatography was used after trimethylsilyl derivatization to determine the composition of soapstocks from corn germ and peanut Oil Refining. Soap fatty acids, polyalcohols, small carbohydrates, sterols, steryl glycosides, mono-, di- and triglycerides were measured using a hexamethyldisilazane/pyridine preparation and a high-temperature capillary column. Additional peaks associated with the fatty acids appeared in the chromatograms when pyridine was incorporated into the sample preparation. Limiting the concentration of soapstock in the sample or replacing pyridine with a chlorinated solvent reduced the formation of these artifacts.

  • Analysis on Current Situation of World Oil Refining Capacity
    Technology-Economics in Petrochemicals, 2010
    Co-Authors: Sinopec Zhenhai
    Abstract:

The current situation of world Oil Refining capacity and features and layouts of Chinese Oil Refining capacity were introduced, the supply - demand relationship and prospect were analyzed, and the problems confronted by the Oil Refining enterprises were discussed. It was proposed for Chinese government to attach importance to macro - economic control, adjust the industrial structure to avoid over competition, and for Chinese Oil Refining enterprises to depend on large - scale industrial bases to develop recycling economy in the mode of integration of Refining and chemical industry, industrial park, and intensification, optimize the industrial layout for cost reduction,so as to enhance the competitiveness of enterprises.

  • Current Situation and Development Prospect of African Oil Refining Plant
    Techno-economics In Petrochemicals, 2006
    Co-Authors: Sinopec Zhenhai
    Abstract:

In the past half century, African Oil Refining industry came into being, the Oil Refining capacity has been increasing, and the structure of Oil Refining plants has developed from simple type to integrated type. While under the current situation, the Oil Refining plants have to be updated to produce unleaded gasoline and abide by Europe Standard; Oil Refining plants have to be expanded to export finished Oil instead of crude Oil; and new Oil Refining plants have to be built in Africa to meet the potential demand of finished Oil market in the future. Therefore, African Oil Refining industry is faced with challenges as well as opportunities.
