    Abstract:

    Learning has embraced the “Open” process in recent years, as many Educational Resources are made available for free online. Existing research, however, has not provided sufficient evidence to systematically improve Open learning interactions and engagement in Open Educational Resource (OER) systems. This deficiency presents two challenges to the efficacy of OER systems. First, OER users might not take full advantage of Open content since their interactions and experience with Open learning systems cannot be optimized. Second, this lack of interaction could discourage the overall usage of OER systems, thus impeding their sustainability. This study addressed both issues by investigating technology acceptance levels among users of an OER portal, MyOOPS, in Taiwan. The study aimed to understand how Open learners might be motivated to engage with OER systems. Based on 729 valid responses, the structural equation modeling revealed a lack of learning goal structure and irrelevance of self-efficacy in participants’ motivational systems. The result prompted an urgent need to reexamine existing motivational design thinking in order to address emerging motivational challenges in Open and goal-free learning environments supported by OER systems.

    At present there are a large number of Open Educational Resources in school, but they are not being well used and shared by public member because its characteristics of diversity, distributed, heterogeneous, as well as differences within education Resource development platform leads information islands. This paper studied the technical route of the sharing of Open Educational Resources based on the combination of the web service technology and Open Educational Resources features, integrated the original Resource application platform, and established a unified single sign-on Resource sharing platform by using the catalog service and proxy service.

    Open Educational Resources (OERs) are essentially Resources made freely available to the public for the purpose of enabling education. This paper examines the experiences of a collaborative team of interdisciplinary teachers and computer science students in their research and development of an OER designed to facilitate student note-making, and research. As expected, the team encountered, and overcame, a number of challenges, with both teachers and students learning from the experiences. The OER has been completed, and has been deployed in a full research study. The reflections from the team may help guide similar projects and other forms of student-centered collaboration and education.

However, OER adoption has not been universal, with several obstacles and barriers still hindering its wider influence. This paper examines the current situation of OERs, as reported in the literature, listing some of the challenges to their adoption, and discusses current and possible strategies and steps to alleviate the difficulties facing OER advocates.
