Ameliorative effects of curcumin on microvascular complicationin streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat Penis
Functional Foods in Health and Disease, 2019Co-Authors: Wipapan Khimmaktong, Manaras Komolkriengkrai, Piyakorn Boonyoung, Vipavee AnupunpisitAbstract:Background: Vascular diseases from diabetes typically result in conditions that interfere with the microvascular functions, such as erectile dysfunction (ED) of the Penis. It is unrevealed which morphological changes the microvasculature of the Penis may result from the treatment and supplementation of curcumin. Objective: This study aims to determine the effects of curcumin, the active compound of turmeric, on penile microvasculature in experimentally induced diabetic rats. Methods: Rat were divided into three groups, control © and diabetic (DM). Diabetic rats supplemented with curcumin (DMC) (200 mg/kg BW). For induction of a diabetic condition, rats were injected with a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg BW). A histological study and vascular corrosion casting along with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to determine a morphological change of microvessels in the Penis of rats after 8 weeks of experiments. Results: The histological investigations of penile tissue of DM group revealed thickly lined venous sinuses with smooth but sparse muscle layers. Dorsal arteries (DA) and deep dorsal veins (DV) of the Penis were present of narrow lumen and showed thickening of collagen fibers at their wall of tunica media. An increasing thickness of collagen fibers was observed. Vascular corrosion casting revealed critically decreased diameters of DM venous sinus in the Penis’ Glans, which were observed as shrunken and partially lacking in the distal area of the Glans. The diameter of venous sinuses in corpus cavernosum (CC) of DM rats were dilated and the density of venous sinuses was decreased. Interestingly, the signs of vessel restoration and improvement were presented by increasing diameters and recovering with healthy and nourished DA, DV, venous sinus at the area of the Glans, and CC of the Penis in DMC groups. Conclusion: The results have shown that the effects of curcumin could improve the destruction of the penile microvasculature in induced diabetic rats by STZ. 'Universitas Malahayati Bandar Lampung', 2019Co-Authors: Wahyudi, Wahid Tri, Suprihatin SuprihatinAbstract:ABSTRACT: KNOWLEDGE AND DETECTION OF PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS AMONG COMMUNITY IN LAMPUNG-INDONESIABackground: Tuberculosis of Lung is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium mycobacterium tuberculosis, which most commonly affects the lungs. Mortality and morbidity due to mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria in indonesia in 2009 there were 1.7 million people died. The incidence of tuberculosis of lung in Lampung until the end of December 2015, tuberculosis of lung is 8,492 cases from the estimated cases in 2015 as many as 32,128. Efforts to prevent the increase in cases of tuberculosis in Indonesia carried out with a description of the case detection efforts can be measured by knowing the number of TB cases found and recorded indicators of Case Notification Rate (CNR).Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship of knowledge with the early detection tuberculosis of lung in the work area of the Way Kanan public health center district in 2017.Methods: The type of this research is quantitative research with cross sectional approach. The population in this research is all citizens suspect in working area of Public Health Center of Way Kanan regency. Instrument of data collection in this research use questioner. The data analysis used is chi square. Results: The statistical results show that there is a correlation between knowledge with early detection of pulmonary tuberculosis (p value = 0,00).Counclusion: Suggestions in the research are expected to motivate the community to actively participate in lung tuberculosis examination program. Keywords : Pulmonary, tuberculosis, knowledge, detection.Pendahuluan: Tuberkulosis Paru (TB Paru) adalah penyakit menular yang disebabkan oleh bakteri mycobacterium tuberculosis, yang paling umum mempengaruhi paru-paru. Genital and extra-genital warts increase the risk of asymptomatic genital human papillomavirus infection in men.
Sexually transmitted infections, 2011Co-Authors: Brenda Y. Hernandez, Yurii B. Shvetsov, Marc T. Goodman, Lynne R. Wilkens, Pamela Thompson, Xuemei Zhu, James Tom, Lily NingAbstract:Objectives To evaluate the relationship of warts in different parts of the body and the risk of asymptomatic genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in men. Methods We examined the relationship of self-reported genital and extra-genital warts with the subsequent acquisition of asymptomatic genital HPV infection in a cohort of 331 adult men. Participants were followed at 2-month intervals for up to 4 years. Past and current presence of warts was queried at study entry. At each visit, the external genitals were sampled for HPV DNA testing. Results Men who reported a history of genital warts, including current warts, were at increased risk of acquisition of asymptomatic HPV infection of the Penis Glans/corona, Penis shaft and scrotum. The magnitude of these associations was greatest for HPV 6/11 infection. History of warts on the fingers, arms and trunk of the body was also associated with increased risk of genital HPV infection. Current presence of warts on the fingers and trunk specifically increased the risk of acquisition of HPV types not typically found on the genitals. Conclusions Men with a history of warts on the genitals, fingers, arms and trunk may be at increased risk for acquisition of new genital HPV infections. Warts may provide an efficient reservoir for the transmission of virions to the genitals through auto-inoculation. The potential for the spread of HPV throughout the body through auto-inoculation has important implications for prevention and control of HPV infection.

Long-term follow-up of sensation recovery of the Penis reconstructed by Cheng's method.
Plastic and reconstructive surgery, 2011Co-Authors: Yang Liu, Tisheng Chang, Kaixiang ChengAbstract:Background: Cheng's method, a new surgical method for penile reconstruction in which the original Glans or the residual penile stump is transferred to the anterior portion of the newly reconstructed penile body with microsurgical techniques, was first introduced in 1997. The purpose of this article was to show the recovery of sensation of the reconstructed Penis. Methods: A long-term follow-up of 27 patients undergoing penile reconstruction using Cheng's method was performed. Nerve repair between the dorsal nerve of the Penis, the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve, and the dorsal nerve of the Penis was performed for innervation. Four measurements for tactile sensation assessment were performed. Results: The mean follow-up was 10.3 years and the mean age of the patients was 25.7 years. The sensation of the distal part of the reconstructed Penis (Glans or the residual penile stump) was similar to the preoperative one (p > 0.05). There was no significant difference in sensation between the unoperated forearm and the postoperative flap (proximal part of the neophallus), except in two-point discrimination, in which the neophallus was better (p < 0.01). In the reconstructed Penis, the distal part had better two-point discrimination than the proximal part (p < 0.01). Compared with our other group of Penises reconstructed by free radial forearm flaps, the distal part with Cheng's method had superior pain perception (p < 0.01), vibratory threshold (p < 0.05), and two-point discrimination (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Cheng's method of penile reconstruction provides good sensation to the reconstructed Penis, especially in the neoGlans, in transferring either the original Glans or the residual penile stump.
