The Process complexity was applied to six industrial projects. As a result, changes of Process complexities in the six projects were clarified. In addition, we propose a procedure of making a PCPQ (Process Complexity-Product quality) model that can predict post-release product quality on the way of a project. As a result of making a PCPQ model using the six projects, a post-release product quality was able to be predicted.

log based Process Fragment querying to support Process design

However, these approaches are still labor-intensive, error-prone and time-consuming. Moreover, they have not yet fully exploited Process event logs, which contain useful information about the real execution of business Processes. In this paper, we present an innovative approach that extracts information from event logs to develop a useful tool to support the Process design. Concretely, we extract the execution order of activities to build a neighborhood context for each activity. We match both activities' labels and their neighborhood contexts to compute the similarity between them. Finally, we propose a query language as a practical tool that allows Process designers to query activities and their involved log-based Process Fragments based on the computed similarity. We developed an application to validate our approach as a proof of concept. We also performed experiments on a large public dataset and experimental results show that our approach is feasible and efficient.

Semantic Process Fragments matching to assist the development of Process variants

BPaaS providers may look for available business Processes from other cloud providers to improve their Processes. However, today's BPaaS solutions lack an explicit and formal semantics which prevent an easy and dynamic interoperability between different cloud providers. In this paper, we propose firstly to semantically populate a shared knowledge base of Process models deployed by BPaaS providers. Therefore, using this knowledge base we aim at finding for selected positions in a business Process suitable Process Fragments for recommendation to assist Process variant modeling. Querying Services Based on Composition Context
2014Co-Authors: Ngoc Chan Nguyen, Walid GaaloulAbstract:Finding suitable services to be composed in a service-based business Process is always a big challenge. In this paper, we present a query language that addresses this challenge by exploiting relations between services in Process models. Con-cretely, we define the composition context of a service as a Process Fragment around it. We match composition contexts to compute the similarity between services. Finally, we conduct the query based on this computed similarity and flexibly added constraints. Our proposed query helps to retrieve services that have similar composition context with the queried service. It can be applied in Process design or execution phase. We perform experiments on a large dataset of real Process models. Experimental results show that our approach is feasible and efficient.

In this demonstration, we present a framework consisting of an Eclipse-based Process design environment that is integrated with a Web-based Process Fragment library. The framework enables extracting Process Fragments, publishing and sharing them on the Web, as well as search, retrieval, and their reuse in a given Process. Process Fragments can be shared with others using a Web frontend or through a plug-in within the Process design environment which is building on Web service technology.

As business Processes represent a fundamental asset of an organization, several concepts for enabling reuse during Process modeling have been proposed. However, only few concrete examples for reusable Process artifacts have been discussed so far. In this paper, we present the concept of Process Fragments and an example collection of Process Fragments for illustrating our reuse concept and for showing that it can actually be applied in practice for an easier and faster development of Process-based applications. The Fragment examples demonstrate different characteristics such Fragments may exhibit. We also argue that this work will encourage reuse of Process logic in terms of Fragments, since it also provides an opportunity to design and develop a Process Fragment library for collecting Process logic explicitly. As technical enabler for the approach we present a prototype called Fragmento.

We understand a Process Fragment as a connected and reusable Process structure, which has relaxed completeness and consistency criteria compared to executable Processes. We claim that Process Fragments allow for an easier and faster development of Process- based applications. As evidence to this claim we present a Process Fragment concept and show a sample collection of concrete, real-world Process Fragments. We present advanced application scenarios for using such Fragments in development of Process-based applications. Process Fragments are typically managed in a repository, forming a Process Fragment library. On top of a Process Fragment library from previous work, we discuss the potential impact of using Process Fragment libraries in cross-enterprise collaboration and application integration.
