MORPHOMETRIC STUDY ON THE NUCLEI OF Pseudostratified Columnar Epithelium IN NASOPHARYNX
Chinese Journal of Cancer, 1992Co-Authors: Zong Yong-shengAbstract:Several morphometric parameters of cell nuclei of Pseudostratified Columnar Epithelium and nuclei of small lymphocyte in 88 nasopharyngeal biopsies were measured by means of image analyser. By comparison, it was showed that (1) The mean nuclear area of Pseudostratified Columnar Epithelium cell nuclei was two-fold larger than that of small lymphocytes. (2) The mean nuclear area and the mean nuclear roundness of nuclei situated in the intermediate and the superficial layer were both increased as compared to those situated in the basal layer, while concerning to the mean nuclear form ellipsoidity(Form Ell) and mean nuclear form regularity (Form Ar), there was no difference among these three layers. (3) Majority (80%) of the long axis of the nuclei of Columnar cells situated in the basal, the intermediate or the superficial layer, all were perpendicular to the epithelial basement membrane. The above findings would provide a basis for studying the precancerous lesions of nasopharyngeal Epithelium.

Comparison of the effect of a high and low dose of atropin on the ultrastructure of the tracheal Epithelium.
Respiration; international review of thoracic diseases, 1996Co-Authors: V Konrádová, Jiˇí Uhlík, Jarmila Zocová, Anna ZajícováAbstract:The ultrastructure of rabbit tracheal Epithelium was studied 20 min after injection of 0.04 and 0.5 mg of atropin. The tracheae were lined with altered ciliated Pseudostratified Columnar Epithelium. The degree of damage to the epithelial cells was dose dependent. The injury to the tracheal Epithelium due to treatment with 0.04 mg of atropin was considered mild. The administration of the higher dose of atropin caused moderately severe epithelial damage. Both experimental groups exhibited morphological signs of impaired self-cleaning ability.
