Antileishmanial sesquiterpenes from the Brazilian Red Alga Laurencia dendroidea.
Planta medica, 2010Co-Authors: Fernanda Lacerda Da Silva Machado, Mutue T Fujii, Lísia Mônica De Souza Gestinari, Carlos R. Kaiser, Wallace Pacienza-lima, Bartira Rossi-bergmann, Joel Campos De Paula, Sônia Soares Costa, Norberto Peporine Lopes, Angélica Ribeiro SoaresAbstract:Investigation of the bioactive crude extracts from two populations of the Red Alga Laurencia dendroidea from the southeastern Brazilian coast led to the identification of five sesquiterpenes: (+)-obtusane (1), a triquinane derivative (2), (-)-elatol (3), obtusol (4), and cartilagineol (5). An antileishmanial bioassay against Leishmania amazonensis was conducted for crude lipophilic extracts and for sesquiterpenes 2, 3, and 4. Compounds 3 and 4 displayed in vitro and in vivo leishmanicidal activity and very low cytotoxicity.

Cytotoxic oxasqualenoids from the Red Alga Laurencia viridis
European journal of medicinal chemistry, 2011Co-Authors: Francisco Cen-pacheco, Manuel Norte, Janny A. Villa-pulgarin, Faustino Mollinedo, Antonio Hernández Daranas, José J. FernándezAbstract:Three new polyether squalene derivatives 15-dehydroxythyrsenol A (2), prethyrsenol A (3) and 13-hydroxyprethyrsenol A (4) have been isolated from the Red Alga Laurencia viridis. Their structures were determined through the interpretation of NMR spectroscopic data and chemical correlations. In addition, four semi-synthetic compounds modulating the solubility of the lead compound dehydrothyrsiferol (1) were prepaRed without loss of activity. The cytotoxicity of the new compounds exhibited low μM activities. In order to explain their biological properties, docking simulations of the natural and synthetic compounds onto the αvβ3 integrin binding region were carried out.

Terpenoids of the Red Alga laurencia pinnatifida
Tetrahedron, 2001Co-Authors: A.g. González, Julio D. Martín, Manuel Norte, J.m. Arteaga, José J. Fernández, J. Z. RuanoAbstract:Abstract The structures of three brominated terpenoids which are natural products from the Red Alga Laurencia pinnatifida (Gmal. Lamour) are described. The structures of the sesquiterpenes 4 and 5 were determined by spectral comparison and chemical interconversion. The structure of the squalene-derived terpenoid 8 was secuRed by chemical transformation into thyrsiferol, a brominated triterpene previously isolated from the Red Alga Laurencia thyrsifera.

New halogenated sesquiterpenes from the Red Alga Laurencia caespitosa
Canadian Journal of Chemistry, 1991Co-Authors: Manuel Norte, José J. Fernández, Rafael González, Agustín Padilla, Jesús Téllez VázquezAbstract:Three new brominated sesquiterpenes have been isolated from the Red Alga Laurencia caespitosa. The structures of these metabolites have been elucidated by spectral analysis and chemical correlations. Their absolute configurations were established by CD methods. Key words; Red Alga, Rhodomelaceae, halogenated sesquiterpenes, snyderane.

bisabolanes from the Red Alga laurencia scoparia
Journal of Natural Products, 2006Co-Authors: Danilo Davyt, Rafael Fernandez, Leopoldo Suescun, Alvaro W Mombru, Jenny Saldana, Laura Dominguez, Mutue T Fujii, Eduardo MantaAbstract:Three novel halogenated beta-bisabolene sesquiterpenoids (1-3), together with two know triquinane alcohol sesquiterpenes (6 and 7), were isolated from the Red Alga Laurencia scoparia and their structures elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Single-crystal X-ray crystallography allowed us to confirm the structure of 1 as well as to determine the absolute configuration of all stereocenters. To the best of our knowledge, the isolation of beta-bisabolenes from the genus Laurencia has no precedent in the literature. Compound 1 showed weak in vitro anthelmintic activity against parasitant stage (L4) Nippostrongilus brasiliensis.
