    Abstract:

    Urban landscape planners are increasingly becoming aware of the value of ecosystem Services to the quality of life of city residents. However, the ecosystem Service framework has not yet been integrated in spatial planning in a systematic way. In this paper, we assess how the ecosystem Service framework is organized and implemented in the current urban green planning structure of the city of Berlin. Based on an analysis of strategic planning documents and expert interviews with local stakeholders, this work explores to what degree the ecosystem Service framework is integrated in the planning system and identifies major challenges in urban green governance. As an output of the analysis of planning documents, it is identified that only very recently developed informal strategies explicitly relate to the ecosystem Service framework although stakeholders are aware of the term. Identified main challenges in Berlin's urban green governance include (a) increasing development pressure from population growth and financial constraints on the municipal budget, (b) loss of expertise and (c) low awareness of green benefits among different actors through insufficient communication. The concept of ecosystem Services, however, may provide a useful argument to promote the conservation of existing urban green spaces and to communicate the benefits that urban nature provides for citizens to all levels of green space governance.

  • Early psychosis workforce development: Core competencies for mental health professionals working in the early psychosis field.

    Abstract:

    AIM The aim of this study was to identify the core competencies required of mental health professionals working in the early psychosis field, which could function as an evidence-based tool to support the early psychosis workforce and in turn assist early psychosis Service Implementation and strengthen early psychosis model fidelity. METHOD The Delphi method was used to establish expert consensus on the core competencies. In the first stage, a systematic literature search was conducted to generate competency items. In the second stage, a panel consisting of expert early psychosis clinicians from around the world was formed. Panel members then rated each of the competency items on how essential they are to the clinical practice of all early psychosis clinicians. RESULTS In total, 1023 pieces of literature including textbooks, journal articles and grey literature were reviewed. A final 542 competency items were identified for inclusion in the questionnaire. A total of 63 early psychosis experts participated in 3 rating rounds. Of the 542 competency items, 242 were endorsed as the required core competencies. There were 29 competency items that were endorsed by 62 or more experts, and these may be considered the foundational competencies for early psychosis practice. CONCLUSION The study generated a set of core competencies that provide a common language for early psychosis clinicians across professional disciplines and country of practice, and potentially are a useful professional resource to support early psychosis workforce development and Service reform.

    Abstract:

    Web Services are emerging as a promising technology for the automation of inter-organizational interactions. As technology matures and the foundations of Web Services become more solid, users will start to demand tools that facilitate the Service development lifecycle. It is only when such tools become available that novel technologies become applied and enter the mainstream, since the complexity, cost and time necessary to deploy and manage solutions is dramatically reduced. In this paper, we present a framework and a tool that support the model-driven development of Web Services. The idea consists in identifying key Web Services abstractions, in addition to those of basic Web Services standards, that enable the description of Service policies and properties that are useful in practice. In this paper, we focus on Service protocols, and specifically on conversation and trust negotiation protocols. These protocols are modeled by means of graphical tools and high-level languages so that they are easy to specify, understand, and evolve. The tools also support the automatic generation of Service Implementation skeletons based on these abstractions, manage the entire Service lifecycle, and provide run-time support to verify that the interaction among clients and Services occur in compliance with the specified policies.

    Abstract:

    Web Services are emerging as a promising technology for the effective automation of inter-organizational interactions. However, despite the growing interest, several issues still need to be addressed to provide Web Services with benefits similar to what traditional middleware brings to intra-organizational application integration. In this paper, we present a framework that supports the model-driven development of Web Services. Specifically, we show how, starting from the external specifications of a Web Service (e.g., interface and protocol specifications), we can support the generation of extensible Service Implementation templates as well as of complete (executable) Service specifications, thereby considerably simplifying the Service development work.

AIMS: To present the development, and content, of a mental healthcare plan (MHCP) in Nepal and assess initial feasibility. METHOD: A mixed methods formative study was conducted. Routine monitoring and evaluation data, including client flow and reports of satisfaction, were obtained from patients (n = 135) during the pilot-testing phase in two health facilities. RESULTS: The resulting MHCP consists of 12 packages, divided over community, health facility and organisation platforms. Service Implementation data support the real-life applicability of the MHCP, with reasonable treatment uptake. Key barriers were identified and addressed, namely dissatisfaction with privacy, perceived burden among health workers and high drop-out rates. CONCLUSIONS: The MHCP follows a collaborative care model encompassing community and primary healthcare interventions.

    Abstract:

    Although vendors provide multiple platforms for Service Implementation, developers demands approaches for managing Service-oriented applications at all stages of development. In this sense, approaches such as Model-Driven Development (MDD) and Service Component Architecture (SCA) can be used in conjunction for modeling and integrating Services independently of the underlying platform technology. Besides, WS-Policy provides a XML-based standard description for extra-functional properties. In this paper we propose a cross-disciplinary approach, in which the aforementioned MDD, SCA and WS-Policy are assembled in order to develop extra-functional properties in web Services from a platform independent model.
