    Abstract:

    Taiwan is highly vulnerable in Energy security, but geographic conditions for the development of Solar Energy applications have created a considerable advantage. However, the total installed Solar Energy capacity is far less than might be expected. Consequently, this study proceeds to explore the main factors that affect diffusion of Solar Energy application concerning Taiwan buildings. Through the evaluation decision-making system model and expert groups giving evaluation values and feedback, the study found twenty-three items of key influencing factors with seven major objectives, and propose strategies for Energy development in the future to improve the quality and quantity of renewable Energy applications and competitiveness of national Energy. This research, in addition to providing references to relevant environmental Energy systems for deployment and technological R&D, also provides developing and underdeveloped countries access to applications of Solar Energy Technology assessment and forecasts for the future.

    Global warming or environmental issues in countries with effective Energy applications and management of environmental resources have become key concerns. Energy is an important factor for countries to achieve sustainable development. Therefore, we need to actively seek renewable Energy Technology innovations, assess for optimization of resource inputs and strategize to proceed with effective Energy strategic planning. Presently, international renewable Energy technologies have been undergoing gradual and steady development. Taiwan is highly vulnerable in Energy security, but geographic conditions for the development of Solar Energy applications have created a considerable advantage. However, the total installed Solar Energy capacity is far less than might be expected. Consequently, this study proceeds to explore the main resistance and key factors that affect renewable Energy application concerning Taiwan buildings. Through the evaluation decision-making system model and expert decision-making groups giving evaluation values and feedback, the study found the main influences and key factors, and propose strategies for Energy development in the future to improve the quality and quantity of renewable Energy applications and competitiveness of national Energy.     Abstract:

    Understandings of the diffusion process have tended to emphasize either the adoption perspective, which focuses on individual characteristics, or the market perspective, which focuses on institutional context. In this paper we bring these two perspectives together by recognizing that people are embedded in socio-geographic contexts that affect their perceptions of their situations, which in turn shape the innovativeness of individuals and places. Focusing on the diffusion of Solar Home Systems (SHS) in Sri Lanka, we explore the role of context at the village (by comparing adoption rates among villages) and individual (by comparing time-to-adoption among household decision makers in a case-study village) scales. At the village scale, we find that expectations of government policy based on interactions related to ethnicity and politicians' previous power-grid connection promises are significant drivers of SHS adoption, along with perceived tolerance levels in the village for non-conformist behavior. Among household decision makers within the case-study village, we analyze relative adoption time and the duration of the innovation-decision process and find that perceiving strong village-level social control inhibits SHS adoption decision making. The results add to innovation diffusion theory and provide policy recommendations for agencies promoting Solar Energy in developing countries.

    Abstract:

    Abstract To increase the use of Solar Energy in cities, this paper proposes an integrated model for urban Solar mapping combining Solar resource potential assessment and Energy system integration models. Bringing urban Solar Energy to a system level gives a more realistic estimate of the useable Solar potential in cities. The model is intended for a first estimate of the potential and it needs a limited amount of input data, typical in developing countries. The first sub-model comprises a step-by-step approach starting with a global temporal Solar radiation pattern to which spatial urban and building topologies are linked to assess Solar losses. Next the available Solar Energy potential is estimated according to type of housing, Solar Energy Technology, and demand patterns. The second sub-model on Energy systems uses the output from the Solar resource model by putting the building specific Solar Energy data into the Energy system level, considering the Energy infrastructure such as the electric grid and finally yielding an estimate of the useable Solar potential in a city. We apply the model to the city of Concepcion in Chile as a test case to show the versatility of it.
