  • Influence of Age on Sexual Libido of Bull-Teasers in Dairy Cattle Herds.
    Ediciones Universidad de Camagüey., 2017
Co-Authors: De Loyola Oriyés, Carlos Javier, Fiss Poll, Álvaro Alejandro, Vázquez Montes De Oca, Roberto, Garay Durba Magaly
    Abstract:

Influence of age on sexual libido of bull-Teasers was evaluated in daily cattle herds at the Livestock Center “Triángulo 1” in Camagüey, Cuba. To this purpose, 140 Holstein x Zebu crossbred bull-Teasers at ages from 13 to 75 months old were studied from 2007 to 2010. Sexual libido was evaluated as an age dependent variable by a linear regression model. Age (39,76 ± 19,89 month-old standard deviation) showed a significant positive influence upon sex-ual libido (6,59 points ± 1,75 standard deviation). Sexual libido increase with age was probably due to older bull-Teasers’ social rank and experience. Although bull-Teasers younger than 24 months old showed an acceptable minimal sexual libido and could be fit for their role if rationally managed, some other factors like body build, management, environment, and age group must be assessed to this end

  • Influence of Season and Daily Mating Time upon Sexual Libido of Artificially Phimotic Bull-Teasers.
    Ediciones Universidad de Camagüey., 2017
Co-Authors: Fiss Poll, Álvaro Alejandro, De Loyola Oriyés, Carlos Javier, Ramírez Oriyés, José Ángel, Vázquez Montes De Oca, Roberto
    Abstract:

Influence of season and time devoted to daily mating upon sexual libido of artificially phimotic bull-Teasers was evaluated in female dairy cattle herds at the Livestock Center “Triángulo 1” in Camagüey, Cuba. To this end, 140 Holstein x Zebu crossbred males at ages between 13 and 75 months old were studied from 2007 to 2010. Samples statistic were estimated. A covariance analysis (ANACOVA) including age as a covariable was performed to eva-luate bull-Teasers sexual libido as a dependent variable of daily mating time and season. Despite significant differ-ences (P < 0,000) in sexual libido concerning restricted daily mating (6,95 points) and free daily mating (5,94 points), none were found for season. These differences in findings are attributable to uncontrolled matings. Rotating bull-Teasers and determining male-female rate by the service capacity test are recommended

    Abstract:

Influence of Age on Sexual Libido of Bull-Teasers in Dairy Cattle Herds.ABSTRACTInfluence of age on sexual libido of bull-Teasers was evaluated in daily cattle herds at the Livestock Center “Triángulo 1” in Camagüey, Cuba. Abstract:

Influence of Season and Daily Mating Time upon Sexual Libido of Artificially Phimotic Bull-Teasers.ABSTRACTInfluence of season and time devoted to daily mating upon sexual libido of artificially phimotic bull-Teasers was evaluated in female dairy cattle herds at the Livestock Center “Triángulo 1” in Camagüey, Cuba. • The Role of News Teasers in Processing TV News and Commercials
    Communication Research, 1991
Co-Authors: Glen T. Cameron, Joan Schleuder, Esther Thorson
    Abstract:

The role of news Teasers in the processing of news and commercials was explored here. Three theories were used to posit effects that news Teasers might have on memory and attention for commercials in evening newscasts. Proactive interference and shifts in cognitive capacity were not found as a function of presence or absence of news Teasers. News Teasers were found to enhance moderately the primacy-recency pattern found in visual and verbal memory scores. Arguably, this pattern reflects a process of segmentation by viewers in which commercial breaks are treated as discrete units in memory processing. News Teasers appear to have an effect on processing strategies employed by television news viewers.

  • Effect of the ratio of teaser rams used prior to breeding on the reproductive performance of ewe hoggets
    New Zealand veterinary journal, 2007
    Co-Authors: Paul R. Kenyon, Patrick C. H. Morel, S. T. Morris, D. L. Burnham, D.m. West
    Abstract:

Abstract AIM: To determine the effects of the ratio of vasectomised (teaser) rams to ewe hoggets used prior to breeding on the breeding performance and pregnancy rate of ewe hoggets. METHODS: Romney-composite ewe hoggets (n=1,180), 7–8 months of age, were randomly assigned to one of five treatment groups (Day 1) and either exposed to harnessed teaser rams at a teaser-ram:ewe-hogget ratio of 1:32 (n=193 hoggets), 1:66 (n=199), 1:98 (n=197), or 1:197 (n=395), for 17 days prior to the breeding period, or not exposed to Teasers (unteased; n=196). Harnessed entire rams were then introduced for the duration of two oestrous cycles (34 days). Using crayon marks, ewe hoggets were identified as having been mated during the first 17 days only, during the second 17 days only, during both 17-day periods, or not mated. Hoggets were weighed on Days 1 and 18. All ewe hoggets were scanned for pregnancy using ultrasound, 57 days after the end of the breeding period. RESULTS: Hogget groups did not differ in liveweight at Da...

  • The effect of length of use of teaser rams prior to mating and individual liveweight on the reproductive performance of ewe hoggets.
    New Zealand veterinary journal, 2006
    Co-Authors: Paul R. Kenyon, Patrick C. H. Morel, S. T. Morris, D. L. Burnham, D.m. West
    Abstract:

Abstract AIM: To determine the effects of liveweight (LW) and duration of teasing with vasectomised rams prior to breeding on both the mating performance and pregnancy rate of ewe hoggets. METHODS: Five hundred and forty-six 1/2 Romney × 1/4 Texel × 1/4 Finnish Landrace ewe hoggets were weighed and randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups: either exposed to five harnessed vasectomised (teaser) rams for 17 days prior to the breeding period (T17; n=181); exposed to five harnessed teaser rams for 8 days prior to the breeding period (T8; n=184); or not exposed to Teasers (unteased; n=181). Harnessed entire rams of the same breed were then introduced for the duration of two oestrous cycles. Using crayon marks, hoggets were identified as having been mated in the first 5 days, Days 6–10, Days 11–17, during the first 17 days only, during both 17-day periods, during the second 17 days only, or not mated. All hoggets that were mated were scanned for pregnancy, using ultrasound, 48 days after the end of th...

  • The effect of individual liveweight and use of teaser rams prior to mating on the reproductive performance of ewe hoggets
    New Zealand veterinary journal, 2005
    Co-Authors: Paul R. Kenyon, Patrick C. H. Morel, S. T. Morris, D.m. West
    Abstract:

Abstract AIM: To determine the effects of liveweight (LW) and use of teaser rams prior to mating on both the mating performance and pregnancy rate of ewe hoggets. METHODS: Romney hoggets (n=841) were weighed and randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups; either exposed to seven harnessed, vasectomised (teaser) rams for 17 days prior to the breeding period (n=283); or not exposed to teaser rams (unteased, n=558). Harnessed Perendale rams were then introduced for two oestrous cycles. Using crayon marks, hoggets were identified as having been mated during the first 17 days only, during the second 17 days only, during both periods, or not mated. All mated hoggets were then scanned for pregnancy using ultrasound, 48 days after the end of the breeding period, and identified as being either non-pregnant, or as single-, twinor triplet-bearing. RESULTS: Hoggets mated in either the first 17 days only or in both the first and second 17-day periods were heavier than those mated in the second period only (p

  • Effects of Melatonin, Progestagens, and the Ram on Out-of-Season Reproduction in Swedish Landrace Finewool Sheep
    Acta Veterinaria Scandinavica, 1998
    Co-Authors: P. J. Gates, T. Henningsson, G. Tengroth, M. Forsberg
    Abstract:

One hundred twenty-one Swedish Landrace Finewool ewes were treated with progestagen sponges (P), teaser ram stimulation (R), or melatonin implants plus teaser ram stimulation (M) in preparation for breeding with whole rams in August. Blood progesterone analyses from ewes in the R and M groups gave no evidence of luteal activity before the introduction of teaser rams. There were no significant differences between treatments for pregnancy rate (~90%). The P group had the most compact lambing season, while median breeding dates for M and R groups were delayed by one cycle. In those groups, the introduction of breeding rams was later found to have been too late. M and R differed significantly for probable conception date but not for lambing dates. Circa 30% of M ewes did not have a short 6 day ovulation cycle after the first ovulation, which resulted in a less concentrated lambing season than the other methods. Although no significant differences in litter size were seen among the 3 treatments, M had the highest group average, 2.25. The ewes in this study were not in very deep anestrous in the middle of August. This supports the conclusion that treatment with exogenous hormones is not necessary to breed Swedish Landrace Finewool ewes successfully in late August/early September.
