    Abstract:

    The first report of Stephanitis lauri Rietschel, 2014 (Heteroptera, Tingidae) in Tuscany and Liguria (Italy). The species has been observed in Pisa (Pisa, Tuscany) and Piano di Vezzano (La Spezia, Liguria) on bay laurel plants. S. lauri has been firstly described in Greece and it was recorded in Cote d’Azur (France) in 2017.

    Abstract:

    Olive lace bugs are small phytophagous Hemipteran insects known to cause agricultural losses in olive production in South Africa. Plerochila australis (Distant, 1904) has been reported as the species responsible for damage to olive trees; however, the diversity of olive lace bug species in the region has lacked attention. Adult olive lace bugs were collected incidentally from wild and cultivated olive trees in the Western Cape Province, and identified as P. australis and Neoplerochila paliatseasi (Rodrigues, 1981). The complete mitochondrial genome of a representative specimen of N. paliatseasi was sequenced, and used for comparative mitogenomics and phylogenetic reconstruction within the family. Furthermore, the value of DNA barcodes for species identification in Tingidae was assessed using genetic clustering and estimates of genetic divergence. The patterns of genetic clustering and genetic divergence of COI sequences supported the morphological identification of N. paliatseasi, and the utility of DNA barcoding methods in Tingidae. The complete mitogenome sequence had the typical Metazoan gene content and order, including 13 PCGs, 22 tRNAs, two rRNAs, and an AT-rich non-coding region. A+T content was high, as commonly found in Tingidae. The phylogenetic reconstruction recovered Agramma hupehanum (Drake Maa 1954) as basal to Tingini, and as a sister species to N. paliatseasi. Stephanitis Stal 1873 and Corythucha Stal 1873 were monophyletic, but Metasalis populi (Takeya 1932) was not recovered as sister to Tingis cardui (Linnaeus 1746), as expected. The mitochondrial phylogeny of the family Tingidae has been recovered inconsistently across different studies, possibly due to sequence heterogeneity and high mutation rates. Species diversity of olive lace bugs in South Africa was previously underestimated. The presence of P. australis was confirmed in both wild and cultivated olives, and N. paliatseasi is reported in cultivated olives for the first time. These results warrant further investigation on the diversity and distribution of olive lace bugs in the Western Cape to inform pest control strategies.

    Abstract:

    Since the beginning of the 21st century the rich amber deposits in Kachin State in Northern Myanmar, famous for their excellently preserved biotic inclusions, attracted the interest of scientists (Grimaldi et al., 2002; Ross, 2019). Hundreds of arthropod taxa were described since, including five genera and six species of the lacebug family Tingidae: Spinitingis ellenbergeri, Burmacader multivenosus (Heiss & Guilbert, 2013); Tingiometra burmanica (Heiss et al., 2015); Burmacader lativentris (Heiss & Guilbert, 2018); Paraphatnomacader huarongcheni, Tingiphatnoma bispinosa (Guilbert & Heiss, 2018).

    Abstract:

    Abstract From the Upper Cretaceous Burmese amber, only three genera and species of Tingidae (Spinitingis ellenbergeri Heiss and Guilbert, 2013; Burmacader multivenosus Heiss and Guilbert, 2013; and Tingiometra burmanica Heiss et al., 2015) have been reported to date. Two new genera and species Paraphatnomacader huarongcheni gen. et sp. nov. and Tingiphatnoma bispinosa gen. et sp. nov. are described and illustrated. Their phylogenetic relationships are discussed on the basis of a cladistics analysis, leading to an emergence of the Tingidae likely much older than ca. 125–135 Ma.

    A new Neotropical species of Sphaerocysta Stål, (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Tingidae) is described. Sphaerocysta costai n. sp. was collected in the Argentinian Yungas, in the provinces of Jujuy (Calilegua) and Salta (Urundel). The most important diagnostic characters are illustrated for adults and fifthinstar nymphs. This new species provides relevant evidence for the understanding of evolutionary trends within the family as its nymphal morphology exhibits unique features among Tingidae. Comments on the systematics of Sphaerocysta, and an identification key to its species are provided.Se describe una nueva especie neotropical de Sphaerocysta (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Tingidae). The two new genera and new species Mexicotingis brailovskyi, from México, and Paraceratotingis convergens, from Venezuela, are described. Diagnoses, descriptions, and digital color photographs of the new taxa, diagnoses and digital photographs of the heads and pronota of all genera, an updated checklist and distributions of the included species, and a key to genera are provided to help distinguish these closely related Tingidae.Se revisan los géneros de chinches de encaje (Tingidae) del Nuevo Mundo pertenecientes al complejo Tigava.     We list all taxa identified to species level, belonging to 18 families of Heteroptera: Reduviidae (63 species), Tingidae (9 species), Alydidae (6 species), Coreidae (39 species), Rhopalidae (11 species), Largidae (1 species), Pyrrhocoridae (4 species), Acanthosomatidae (1 species), Pentatomidae (58 species), Scutelleridae (3 species), Berytidae (1 species), Blissidae (5 species), Colobathristidae (2 species), Cymidae (1 species), Ninidae (1 species), Lygaeidae (6 species), Pachygronthidae (1 species), and Rhyparochromidae (13 species).
