Out of these, 1303 (94.6 %) were young birds and 74 (5.4 %) were adults. Out of the total, 1290 (93.7 %) were the Aquila pomarina Lesser Spotted Eagles (LSE) - 1229 (95.3 %) young and 61 (4.7 %) adults, 50 (3.6 %) were the Aquila clanga Greater Spotted Eagles (GSE) - 44 (88.0 %) young and 6 (12.0 %) adults and 37 (2.7 %) were the Aquila pomarina x Aquila clanga hybrids (LSE x GSE) - 30 (81.1 %) young and 7 (18.9 %) adults. With respect to the individual European countries the following SE species and numbers were ringed: Slovakia 636 (46.2 %), Poland 333 (24.2 %), Estonia 153 (11.1 %), Germany 116 (8.4 %), Lithuania 68 (4.9 %), Latvia 45 (3.3 %) and Belarus 26 (1.9 %). In the article authors presents a review on Spotted Eagle colour ringing programmes running in individual European countries.

Z orlov krikľavých sa oznacilo 1290 (93,7 %), z toho mlaďat 1229 (95,3 %) a dospelých jedincov 61 (4,7 %), orlov hrubozobých 50 (3,6 %) z toho mlaďat 44 (88,0 %) dospelých jedin- cov 6 (12,0 %) a ich hybridov 37 (2,7 %), z toho mlaďat 30 (81,1 %) a dospelých jedincov 7 (18,9 %). Abstracts of contributions presented at the International Conference on the Conservation of the Lesser Spotted Eagle, Slovakia, 2014
Slovak Raptor Journal, 2015Co-Authors: Miroslav Dravecký, Zuzana GuziováAbstract:Abstract The International Conference on the Conservation of the Lesser Spotted Eagle (Aquila pomarina) was held on September 25-27, 2014 in Lesanka Guesthouse at Košická Belá, Slovakia. The Conference was organized within the framework of the project LIFE09NAT/SK/000396 Conservation of Aquila pomarina in Slovakia, implemented by Raptor Protection of Slovakia, Východoslovenská energetika, a.s., Stredoslovenská energetika, a.s., and Stredoslovenská energetika - Distribúcia, a.s. This project was cofinanced by EU-LIFE and the Ministry for the Environment of the Slovak Republic. A total of 59 participants from 14 countries attended the conference. The conference agenda included 17 presentations and 7 posters. Some of the contributions are published in Slovak Raptor Journal volume 9 (2015) as full papers, and a further 23 contributions are published here as conference abstracts.

Lesser Spotted Eagle (Aquila pomarina) colour ringing programme and its first results in the period 2000-2008 in Slovakia
Slovak Raptor Journal, 2008Co-Authors: Miroslav Dravecký, Stefan Danko, Boris Maderic, Ján Kicko, Dušan Karaska, Karol Šotnár, Stanislav Harvancík, Peter Vrlík, Josef Vrána, Miloš BallaAbstract:Lesser Spotted Eagle (Aquila pomarina) colour ringing programme and its first results in the period 2000-2008 in Slovakia In Slovakia during 2000-2008, 636 Lesser Spotted Eagles (Aquila pomarina) were marked with readable colour rings with double figure code. This is the highest number of Lesser Spotted Eagles marked in such a way in Europe. From this sample, 621 ind. (97.6 %) were chicks at the nest and 15 ind. (2.4 %) were adult birds which were trapped and consequently ringed. In this period, 2 colour series of rings have been used in Slovakia. In 2000 the ringing started with yellow rings, and up until the end of 2008, 631 ex. (616 young and 15 adults) were ringed. In 2008, the ringing started with light blue series of rings and 5 young at the nest were ringed. In addition to readable rings, aluminium ornithological rings of the Ringing Centres of Czech Republic (NM Praha) and Slovakia (NM Bratislava) have been used. The yellow series was used in fewer numbers also in Germany and Poland for marking the Lesser Spotted Eagle (Aquila pomarina), the Greater Spotted Eagle (Aquila clanga), and eventually their hybrids. In this article the authors reported first observations in Slovakia of such marked Lesser Spotted Eagles in the field. Observed eagles were 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 years old. Some of them were already breeding and were observed taking care of their chicks.

Aquila: adaptive resource control for QoS using an IP-based layered architecture

The European research project Aquila is committed to defining a DiffServ-based architecture for delivering on-demand QoS to requesting applications. Focal characteristics of the proposed solution are backward compatibility to the existing Internet and scalability to very large networks. To achieve such goals, Aquila implements an overlaid distributed control layer, the resource control layer, implementing a novel mechanism for dynamic control of intradomain resources, the dynamic resource pool. On the interdomain aspects, the Aquila architecture extends the BGRP framework for the aggregation of interdomain reservations to overcome scalability issues. This article describes the general Aquila architecture, with a special focus on the DRP and BGRP mechanisms.

QofIS - Traffic Handling in Aquila QoS IP Network

The Aquila project enhances the DiffServ architecture concept [1,2,3] by adding new functionality for admission control and resource management as well as by defining new set of network services. Each network service is optimised for specific type of traffic (e.g. nonreactive and reactive) and has its own traffic handling mechanisms. Exemplary measurement results verifying the effectiveness of Aquila approach for providing QoS are also included.

The core network will be an enhanced DiffServ network providing several dynamically manageable traffic classes with specific QoS parameters, per hop behaviors, and other "guidelines" that realize different network services. A new logical layer has been defined on top of the DiffServ network, the Resource Control Layer. The task of this layer is to control the underlying network in order to provide QoS features to the customers of the network. Resource Control Agent, Admission Control Agent and End-user Application Toolkit (EAT) are the logical components of this architecture. Legacy as well as new QoS-aware applications running on the hosts will use the EAT middleware to benefit from the QoS capabilities of the Aquila architecture. The Aquila project is split into two phases. Now it has completed the definition and implementation and it has run the first trial. The architectural definition and the trial results are discussed in this paper.

Successful Breeding of a Ten-Year-Old Hybrid Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga × A. pomarina Retaining Immature Plumage Characters
Ardea, 2010Co-Authors: Ülo VäliAbstract:Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga and Lesser Spotted Eagle Aquila pomarina are hybridising Eurasian raptors, but our knowledge of hybrid fertility is poor. Here, I present a case of interbreeding between a F1 hybrid spotted eagle male and a Lesser Spotted Eagle female in Estonia. The hybrid was first studied and ringed as a nestling in 1999, showing characters of both species. In 2009, the same bird was caught and, surprisingly, this ten-year-old individual had retained several immature characters. Again, characters of both species were recorded in the hybrid, as well as in his backcross-offspring. At the nest site level, the habitat of the hybrid's hatching site was intermediate but its nesting site was typical of A. pomarina. At the landscape level hatching and breeding sites resembled habitat typical of A. clanga in Estonia.
