    Abstract:

    Auf den beiden Inseln Tristan da Cunha und Nightingale im Sudatlantik wurden mit Malaisefallen Trauermucken (Diptera: Sciaridae) gesammelt. Im Ergebnis dessen konnten 4 Arten nachgewiesen werden, von denen Lycoriella sativae (Johannsen, 1912) aus der Literatur schon bekannt war. Drei andere – Bradysia tilicola (Loew, 1850), Hyperlasion viridiventris (Frey, 1945) und Pseudolycoriella setigera (Hardy, 1960) – werden zum ersten Mal von dem Archipel gemeldet. Zur Zeit sind 8 Spezies von der Inselgruppe bekannt. Diese gehoren zu den Gattungen Bradysia Winnertz (3 Spezies), Cosmosciara Frey (1), Hyperlasion Schmitz (1), Lycoriella Frey (2) und Pseudolycoriella Menzel & Mohrig (1). Von den 7 namentlich bekannten Trauermucken-Arten des Archipels wurden die mannlichen Genitalstrukturen abgebildet. Von Hyperlasion viridiventris (Frey) existierten bisher nur die schlecht erhaltenen Typ­exemplare von den Azoren. Auf der Basis des neuen Materials werden die Mannchen und Weibchen redeskribiert. Auserdem wird eine Ubersicht uber die bis heute bekannt gewordenen Sciaridenfunde von der Inselgruppe gegeben.     Abstract:

    The black fungus gnats Bradysia similigibbosa sp. n. and B. irwini sp. n. are described and new records of species of Bradysia Winnertz, Ctenosciara Tuomikoski, Epidapus Haliday, Pseudolycoriella Menzel & Mohrig, and Scatopsciara Edwards are presented for New Caledonia. A checklist of the sciarids of New Caledonia is given.

    Abstract:

    Abstract The phylogeny of the family Sciaridae is reconstructed, based on maximum likelihood, maximum parsimony, and Bayesian analyses of 4809 bp from two mitochondrial (COI and 16S) and two nuclear (18S and 28S) genes for 100 taxa including the outgroup taxa. According to the present phylogenetic analyses, Sciaridae comprise three subfamilies and two genus groups: Sciarinae, Chaetosciara group, Cratyninae, and Pseudolycoriella group + Megalosphyinae. Our molecular results are largely congruent with one of the former hypotheses based on morphological data with respect to the monophyly of genera and subfamilies (Sciarinae, Megalosphyinae, and part of postulated “new subfamily”); however, the subfamily Cratyninae is shown to be polyphyletic, and the genera Bradysia, Corynoptera, Leptosciarella, Lycoriella, and Phytosciara are also recognized as non-monophyletic groups. While the ancestral larval habitat state of the family Sciaridae, based on Bayesian inference, is dead plant material (plant litter + rotten wood), the common ancestors of Phytosciara and Bradysia are inferred to living plants habitat. Therefore, shifts in larval habitats from dead plant material to living plants may have occurred within the Sciaridae at least once. Based on the results, we discuss phylogenetic relationships within the family, and present an evolutionary scenario of development of larval habitats.

    Abstract:

    The first records for Brazil of two sciarid species, Bradysia difformis Frey, 1948 [= paupera (Tuomikoski, 1960)] and Bradysia ocellaris (Comstock, 1882) [= tritici (Coquillett, 1895)] (Diptera, Sciaridae) are presented. These are the first records of these species for the Neotropical region. Males and females of both species are fully described and illustrated. Information is given about synonymy and the location of the type material. Bradysia agrestis Sasakawa, 1978 is a new synonym of Bradysia difformis. Information about the zoogeographic distribution and habitats, of Bradysia difformis and Bradysia ocellaris is provided.

    The Bradysia luctifica group is characterized for a number of species with an Oriental-Australasian distribution. The group includes the following species: Bradysia abrupta sp. n. (Malaysia: Pahang, Selangor), B. calicula sp. n. (Malaysia: Sabah), B. conflexa sp. n. (Malaysia: Pahang), B. fornicata sp. n. (Malaysia: Pahang), B. luctifica (Skuse, 1888) (Australia: South Australia, Indonesia: Ceram, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea), B. robusta Mohrig, 2015 (Papua New Guinea) and B. torosa sp. n. (Papua New Guinea: Bismarck Archipelago). The species are keyed and the new species are described and illustrated.

    Four species of Bradysia Winnertz (Diptera, Sciaridae) from the Northern Holarctic are described and illustrated for the fi rst time: Bradysia bigeminata sp. nov. (Finland, Canada), B. falciceps sp. nov. (Finland, Canada), B. oelandica sp. nov. (Sweden) and B. plusiospina sp. nov. (Finland). A few Bradysia species, described previously and now found in Northern Europe, are also redefi ned and illustrated.

    Abstract:

    The sciarid fauna ofa deciduous forest in Kivij iirvi Nature Reserve, southern Fin­ land, was studied. In all, 58 species were found in a material of247 specimens, collected with Malaise traps. The material included the following species new to the Finnish and North European fauna: Corynoptera postforcipata Rudzinski, Leptosciarellajuniperi (Mohrig & Blasco-Zumeta), Leptosciarella subcoarttata Mohrig & Menzel, Leptosciarella yerburyi (Freeman), PhyJosciara macrotricha (Lengersdorf) and Sciara nursei Freeman. Bradysia arcula sp. n., found also in two other localities in Finland, is described, and a key to the Finnish species ofthe Bradysia praecox group is provided.

    Abstract:

    Sciaridae (Diptera) from forest and mire habitats from three localities in central Finland were identified. The material consisted of 609 specimens belonging to 106 species. The following species were found as new to Finland: Bradysia subbetuleti, B. submoesta, B. subscabricornis, Corynoptera fera, C. furcifera, C. saetistyla, C. subsedula, Cratyna spiculosa, Leptosciariella helvetica, Lycoriella micria, Pseudolycoriella brunnea, P. nodulosa, Scatopsciara neglecta, Trichosia glabra and Sciara sp. n. (Menzel & Salmela, in prep.) and Ctenosciara exigua sp. n. The latter is described as new to science. Bradysia subbetuleti, Leptosciariella atricha, Leptosciariella tuberculigera and Lycoriella micria are redescribed. The occurrence of some rare or poorly known species is discussed, and the importance of peatlands for sciarid biodiversity in the boreal region is emphasized.
