The larva is opportunistic, present in the fast-flowing streams to slow-flowing organically enriched sewage drains. It lives in tunnels made of various particles glued together by silky secretions. There are two generations a year with peak emergence in April-May and September-November. The sex ratio of females to males is 2:1. Stades immatures de Rheocricotopus (Psilocricotop us) valgus Chaudhuri & Sinharay de l'Himalaya et notes sur l'ecolo gie (Diptera : Chironomidae) Mots cles : larve, nymphe, habitats, emergence saisonniere. Les stades immatures, larve et nymphe de Rheocricotopu s (Psilocricotopus) valgus sont decrits pour la premiere fois. L'espece appartient au groupe chalybeatus. La larve est opportuniste et colonise aussi bien les rivieres a debit rapide que les canaux d'egouts riches en matiere organique. Elle vit dans des fourreaux faits de particules variees reunies par des secretions soyeuses. Il y a 2 generations annuelles avec un pic d'emergence en avril-mai et septembre-novembre. Revision of the Oriental species of Polypedilum Kieffer (Diptera: Chironomidae) with their phylogenetic relationship.

Three species, P . ( Polypedilum ) tamanigrum Sasa, 1983, P. ( Pentapedilum ) anale (Freeman, 1954), and P . ( Tripodura ) conghuaense Zhang, Song, Qi and Wang, 2016 with pupa are recorded firstly in the subcontinent. Hypopygia of P . ( P .) ascium Chaudhuri, Guha and Das Gupta, 1981, P . ( T .) conghuaense , P . ( T .) lineatum Chaudhuri, Guha and Das Gupta, 1981 and P . ( P .) nudiceps Chaudhuri, Guha and Das Gupta, 1981 are redescribed. Polypedilum ( P .) exterflexum Hazra, Sanyal and Brahma, 2015, P. clavipennae Hazra, Sanyal and Brahma, 2015 and P. aduncum Konar and Hazra, 2017 are proposed here to transfer to the genus Stictochironomus Kieffer, 1919 . Polypedilum ( P. ) insolitum Chaudhuri, Guha and Das Gupta, 1981 is here stated as junior synonym of Zavreliella marmorata (Wulp, 1859). In addition, some biogeographic and taxonomic remarks including DNA barcoding for selected species are given. Cladistic analysis of the Oriental species of Polypedilum Kieffer is made to hypothesise their possible relationship. A new dichotomous key of the Oriental species of Polypedilum is presented here.

A new approach to system reliability
IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 2001Co-Authors: G. Chaudhuri, N. AfsharAbstract:Calculating system-reliability via the knowledge of structure function is not new. However, such attempts have had to compromise with the increasing complexity of a system. This paper overcomes this problem through a new representation of the structure function, and demonstrates that the well-known systems considered in the state-of-art follow this new representation. With this new representation, the important reliability calculations, such as Birnbaum reliability-importance, become simple. The Chaudhuri, et al. (1991) bounds which exploit the knowledge of structure function were implemented by our simple and easy-to-use algorithm for some s-coherent structures, viz, s-series, s-parallel, 2-out-of-3:G, bridge structure, and a fire-detector system. The Chaudhuri bounds are superior to the min-max and Barlow-Proschan bounds. This representation is useful in implementing the Chaudhuri bounds. With this representation of the structure function, the computation of important reliability measures such as the Birnbaum structural and reliability importance are easy. The use of Chaudhuri bounds is recommended for general use, especially when cost and/or time are critical. The C-H-A algorithm (in this paper) is simple and easy to use. It depends on the knowledge of the path sets of a given structure. Standard software packages are available to provide the minimal path sets of any s-coherent system. The C-H-A algorithm has been programmed in SAS, S-PLUS, and MATLAB.
