    Abstract:

    The utilisation of digestible nutrients in the Feed Rations containing black gluten and red rice by Mini Rex Rabbits were observed in the research study. The free variable of Rations, including P0 as commercial Feed as the control ration, P1 ration with white rice content, and P2 and P3 containing red and black gluten rice, respectively. The research used twelve Mini Rex Rabbits averaging 2 months of age and 1.95 kg body weight as experimental animals. They were divided into four groups with three replications. The experimental design was a Complete Randomised Design (4 x 3 replications). All animals received 10 g/h/d of Alfalfa and a concentrated Feed ration as well as the treatment groups, respectively. Results of the experiment showed that the utilisation of digestible organic matter by the Mini Rex Rabbits were not significantly (P>0.05) difference among the treatment groups.     Ten Aspergillus oryzae strains were screened in solid substrate fermentation for alpha-amylase production on spent brewing grain (SBG) and on corn fiber. SBG proved to be a better substrate for enzyme production than corn fiber. A Plackett-Burman experimental design was used to optimize the medium composition for the best strain. Solid substrate fermentation on optimized medium with A. oryzae NRRL 1808 (=ATCC 12892) strain in stationary 500-mL Erlenmeyer flask culture yielded 4519 U of alpha-amylase/g of dry matter substrate in 3 d. The whole solid substrate fermentation material (crude enzyme, in situ enzyme) may be considered a cheap biocatalytic material for animal Feed Rations and for bioalcohol production from starchy materials.

    The objective of this work was the development of a methodology capable of simultaneously determine 26 mycotoxins in mixed Feed Rations collected in 20 dairy farms. A sample preparation methodology based on a combination of (d)SPE and QuEChERS extractions was used. Liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry was employed for both identification and quantification purposes. To this respect, a powerful workflow based on data-independent acquisition, consisting of fragmenting all precursor ions entering the mass spectrometer in narrow m/z isolation windows (SWATH), was implemented. SWATH data file then contains all the information that would be acquired in a multitude of different experimental approaches in a single all-encompassing dataset. Analytical method performance was evaluated in terms of linearity, repeatability and matrix effect. Relative recoveries were also measured, giving values above 80% for most compounds. Matrix-matched calibration was carried out and enabled reaching the low ng mL(-1) level for many mycotoxins. The observed matrix effect, in most cases suppressive, reached even values higher than 60%. The repeatability was also adequate, showing a relative standard deviation lower than 10%. All unified samples analyzed showed co-occurrence of two or more mycotoxins, recurrently zearalenone, fumonisin B1, and beta-zearalenol, with an occurrence frequency ranging from 60% to 90%.

    Aims:  To increase rumen output of γ-linolenic acid (GLA), we used two cereal-derived substrates, ground barley (GB) and rye bran (RB), enriched with fungal GLA as components of Feed Rations. We examined their effects on rumen fermentation patterns, lipid metabolism and the ciliated protozoan population in an artificial rumen. Methods and Results:  Four diets consisting of meadow hay (MH) plus unfermented (GB or RB) or prefermented (GB − TE or RB − TE) cereal-derived substrates were fermented in an artificial rumen with ovine rumen inoculum. The cereal-derived substrates were prefermented with the fungus Thamnidium elegans (TE) by fungal solid-state fermentation. The diets with TE increased the rumen input of dietary GLA (mg day−1) from 0 to 21 (GB − TE) or 26 (RB − TE). Both experimental diets increased the rumen output of GLA (P < 0·001). Adverse effects on the ciliate population were observed. Both diets also had an effect on the fatty acids profile. Fermentation patterns were also affected with MH + RB − TE. Conclusion:  Cereal-derived substrates enriched with GLA effectively enhanced the output of GLA in artificial rumen. Significance and Impact of the Study:  The ability of the fungal strain T. elegans to grow and utilize various agro-industrial substrates might be useful in developing potential new animal diets enriched in GLA.

    This experiment was carried out at the San Luis Acatlan municipality, near the coast of the state of Guerrero, Mexico, under Awo climate conditions, at 250 m above sea level, 26°C temperature and 600 cubic centimeters of annual rainfall. Weight gain, Feed conversion and Feed efficiency in Pelibuey ewes were used to measure effects of: 30% “parota” (Enterolobium cyclocarpum) fruit (seed and pod); 30% chicken manure; and 15% parota fruit plus 15% chicken manure Rations fed ad libitum. The remainder of the Feed Rations were completed by 70% grain corn and up to 20% corn stover. Crossed latin square statistical analysis for the three treatments and nine repetitions were used. The experiment lasted 75 days, divided in three periods of 25 days each and a 15 day adaptation period between each. Results obtained were as follows: total weight gain, 86.0, 74.0 and 111.1 kg; Feed conversion, 7.47, 10.35 and 7.97 kg; Feed efficiency 147, 120 and 144 g for each of the Feed Rations, respectively. No statistically significant differences (P > 0.05) were found. Results of this study indicate that 30% parota fruit, 30% chicken manure and a combination of both in the Feed ration, fed to Pelibuey ewes, does not decrease Feed efficiency parameters.
