The study about mechanism of potassium-sparing and potassium-supplementation of Foeniculum vulgare mill on liver cirrhosis ascites in rats
Journal of Xinjiang Medical University, 2012Co-Authors: Gan Zi-mingAbstract:Objective To investigate the mechanism of potassium-sparing and potassium-supplementation of Foeniculum vulgare mill on liver cirrhosis ascites in rats.Methods 120 healthy Wister rats were divided into a normal group(Group A,8 rats) and a liver cirrhosis ascites model group randomly.There were 66 rats which survived in the liver cirrhosis ascites model group.6 of them were tested in order to prove that the model for the liver cirrhosis ascites with 66 rats was successful.After proving successfully,60 rats remained in this group were selected randomly into 6 groups: Group B,C,D,E,F,G and each group had 10 rats.The group B is a model one.The group C is a hydrochlorothiazide group.D stands for a hydrochlorothiazide and KCL group.E group is a Foeniculum vulgare mill low-dose group.The group F is a Foeniculum vulgare mill middle-dose group and the G group is a Foeniculum vulgare mill high-dose group.After 4 weeks,they were tested for blood serum ion and liver function of blood and observed in small intestine enterokinesia experiment.Liver were collected for H-E stain.Potassium content was detected through Employment Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry.Results(1) In small intestine enterokinesia experiment,the difference between Group G and C is significant(P0.05).(2) The results of serum potassiumion detection,the Foeniculum vulgare mill high-dose group content is maximum.Compared with C group,the difference exists statistically significant.(3) Flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry detected potassium content is 2.043 3 g/100 g,taking up 9.45%.Conclusion(1) Foeniculum vulgare Mill just like Hydrochlorothiazide and KCL has an effect of mechanism of potassium-sparing towards liver cirrhosis ascites.(2) Because Foeniculum vulgare Mill has higher potassium content,it will reinforce potassium content in therapeutics of liver cirrhosis ascites.

Experimental study of Chinese herb Foeniculum vulgare mill on liver hepatic fibrosis and potassium supplement in rats
Journal of Xinjiang Medical University, 2012Co-Authors: Gan Zi-mingAbstract:Objective To observe the effects of Foeniculum vulgare mill on liver fibrosis and potassium supplement.Methods One hundred wister rats were randomly divided into 8 groups as control group,model group,Foeniculum vulgare mill group(low dose,middle dose,high dose) and therapeutic group.Liver fibrosis models were established by the combination of injecting carbon tetrachloride(CCl4) subcutaneously,feeding high lipid diet and drinking 10% alcoho1.Drugs were lavaged for 6 weeks,rats livers tissue were examined with HE staining;the draining ascites was collected;the serum level of potassium and Hyaluronidase(HAase) were determined by corresponding test kits.Results Liver tissues inflammation and severe fatty degeneration showed in model control group,and which improved significantly after therapy by different doses of Foeniculum vulgare mill;Compared with normal group,ascites level and HAase content remarkablely increased,level of potassium decreased(P0.05).Compared with model group,Foeniculum vulgar emill group,scites level and HAase content remarkablely decreased,the level of potassium remarkablely increased(P0.05).Conclusion Foeniculum vulgare mill can inhibit the hepatic fibrosis and add the potassium lost with ascites.

Effects of Foeniculum vulgare mill on lipid peroxidation in rats with liver hepatic fibrosis
Progress in Modern Biomedicine, 2011Co-Authors: Fan Qiang, Gan Zi-mingAbstract:Objective: To observe the effects of Foeniculum vulgare mill on liver fibrosis.Methods: 100 Wister rats were randomly divided into 4 groups as control group,model group,Foeniculum vulgare mill group,and danshen group.Liver fibrosis models were es-tablished by the combination of injecting carbon tetrachloride(CCL4) subcutaneously.Drugs were lavaged for 8 weeks,rats livers tissue were examined with HE staining;the serum level of alanine transaminase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),albumin(ALB) and total protern(TP) were determined using corresponding test kits;the hepatic lipid peroxidation indexes,including malondialdehyde(MDA),Superoxide dismutase(SOD),Glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX),Catalase(CAT) were measured by biochemical methods;Results: Compared with normal group,ALT,AST level and MDA content remarkablely increased,level of TP,ALB and SOD activity decreased(P0.05).Compared with model group,Foeniculum vulgare Mill group ALT,AST level and MDA content remarkablely decreased,level of TP,ALB and SOD,GSH-PX,CAT activity remarkablely increased(P0.05).Conclusions: Foeniculum vulgare Mill can inhibit the hepatic fibrosis and it's probably mechanism is associated with the effect of Foeniculum vulgare Mill regulate the lipid peroxidation in the liver.

CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME ITALIAN TYPES OF WILD FENNEL (Foeniculum vulgare MILL.)

(fennel) were collected from thirteen Italian localities at different latitudes and grown in field trials to evaluate their morphological and agronomic characteristics and essential oil compositions. All the parameters were recorded at full bloom stage, and the essential oils (obtained by steam distillation) were characterized by gas chromatography (GC) and GC/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The morphological characteristics showed positive relations among the number of umbels per plant, the plant weight, and the umbel weight percentage, and between these three parameters and the oil content. The essential oils evidenced five chemical groups characterized by (1) α-phellandrene, methyl chavicol, and trans-anethole; (2) α-pinene, limonene, and trans-anethole; (3) methyl chavicol and α-phellandrene; (4) methyl chavicol and α-pinene; and (5) α-phellandrene. On the chemical constituents from the root barks of Foeniculum vulgare Mill
Journal of Xinjiang Medical University, 2014Co-Authors: Lin JianbAbstract:Objective To investigate the chemical constituents in the Foeniculum vulgare Mill from Xinjiang Province.Methods The constituents were separated and purified repeatedly by column chromatography together with MRI modern scan technology,and they were identified on the basis of chemical and spectral data.Results Six compounds were isolated from the root barks of Foeniculum vulgare Mill and their structures elucidated as Scopoletin(Ⅰ),5-Hydroxymethylfurfural(Ⅱ),5-oxo-2-pyrrolidinecarboxylic acid,(±)-form,ET ester(Ⅲ),Daucosterol(Ⅳ),Stigmasterol(Ⅴ),Sucrose(Ⅵ).Conclusion CompoundsⅠ~Ⅲ were obtained from the genus Foeniculumfor the first time.
