    Medline and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were used to identify sources of data. Title and abstracts were screened independently. Randomised controlled clinical trials of >6 months duration that used gingivitis or plaque levels as outcome measures were selected. The mean values and standard deviations were extracted. In studies where standard errors of the mean were reported, standard deviations were calculated by the authors based on the sample size. Weighted means of baseline and of end of trial were calculated with the software Cochrane Collaboration Review Manager (version 4.2; The Cochrane Collaboration, Oxford, England) using a random-effects model. The use of SnF dentifrices results in greater gingivitis and plaque reduction compared with a conventional dentifrice. The precise magnitude of this effect was difficult to assess because of a high level of heterogeneity in study outcomes.

The chronic periodontitis was an inflammation of the tissues supporting the teeth resulting in a loss of adhesion of Gingival and periodontal ligament damage. Supplements glucosamine-chondroitin sulfate on osteoarthritis could reduce pain and inhibit joint damage. The function of glucosamine-chondroitin sulfate on chronic periodontitis may modulate the host inflammatory response, regulate gene expression and decreased inflammatory mediators. This study aimed to determine the effect of supplement use glucosamine-chondroitin sulfate by oral in patients with osteoarthritis after scaling and root planing (SRP) with parameters of Gingival Index (GI), bleeding on probing (BOP) and pocket depth (PD). Subject study of 20 patients with osteoarthritis who experienced chronic periodontitis, divided into two groups, namely; SRP plus supplements glucosamine-chondroitin sulfate and SRP alone. Data retrieval GI, BOP and PD performed on days 0, 21st and 30th. Data were analyzed using t-test, Mann-Whitney and chi square test. Results of t-test and Mann-Whitney test showed a decrease in GI and PD in both groups, there were significant differences between the treatment group and the control group (p <0.05), whereas the chi square test against the decline of BOP, the result was not a significant difference between the treatment group and the control group. The conclusion of this study was the used of supplements glucosamine-chondroitin sulfate by oral in osteoarthritis patients who experience chronic periodontitis after SRP could decreas GI and PD, but does not apply to decreased BOP.

    Latar Belakang. Indikasi keberhasilan implan adalah tidak ada infeksi dan kehilangan tulang alveolar kurang dari 0.2 mm pertahunnya setelah tahun pertama dari pemasangan implan. Penelitian ini dilakukan didasari oleh adanya perbedaan diameter implan, jumlah serta jarak antar ulir, dan bentuk abutmen dari implan mini dibandingkan dengan implan standar. Peradangan pada peri-implan dapat dilihat di daerah gingiva dan sulkus peri-implan. Keberadaan infeksi dan kehilangan tulang alveolar tersebut, maka diperlukan penelitian tentang keberhasilan pemakaian implan mini dan implan standar dengan cara mengukur dan melihat bleeding on probing, Gingival Index, pocket depth, bone level. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan keberhasilan pemakaian implan mini dibandingkan dengan implan standar terhadap keberadaan bleeding on probing, Gingival Index, pocket depth, dan bone level. Metode penelitian, jenis penelitian Ex Post Facto yaitu dengan mengukur dan memeriksa bleeding on probing, Gingival Index, pocket depth, dan bone level dari subjek yang menggunakan implan mini dengan implan standar. Hasil. Pemeriksaan Bleeding on probing kelompok implan mini (MDI) pada semua sampel hasilnya negatif, sedangkan kelompok implan standar (Q-Implants) semua sampel hasilnya positif, uji Chi-Square, p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Rerata Gingival Index kelompok MDI 0.67± 0.24 dan Q-Implants 1.32 ± 0.50, uji t, p= 0.00 (p<0.05).Rerata pocket depth kelompok mesial MDI 1.80 ± 0.63 dan Q-Implants 3.70 ± 0.48, uji t, p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Rerata pocket depth kelompok distal MDI 2.00 ± 0.21 dan Q-Implants 3.50 ± 0.27, uji t, p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Rerata bone level kelompok mesial MDI 0.52 ± 0.27 dan Q-Implants 0.93 ± 0.40, uji t, p= 0.01 (p<0.05). ABSTRACT Background. A successful implant is indicated by the presence of no infection and the annual loss of alveolar bone occurs less than 0.2 mm after the first year of implants installation. This research was conducted based on the existence of implant diameter differences, the number and distance between the screws, and the form of abutment of mini implant compared to a standard implant. Inflammations on peri-implant can be seen in the gingiva and periimplant sulcus. The presence of infection and the loss of alveolar bone, then research on the success of the use of mini implant and standard implant by measuring and observing the number of bleeding on probing, Gingival Index, pocket depth, bone level were needed. This research was aimed to find out the differences in the success of the mini implant usage compared to standard implant to the existence bleeding on probing, Gingival Index, pocket depth, and bone level. This research employed Ex Post Facto methodology by measuring and observing bleeding on probing, Gingival Index, pocket depth, and bone level on the subject that used mini implant with standard implant. Result of observation. Bleeding on probing on all mini implant (MDI) group were negative, while on all standard implant (Q-Implants) group were positive, Chi-Square test, p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Average Gingival Index on MDI group was 0.67 ± 0.24 and Q-Implants was 1.32 ± 0.50, t test, p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Average pocket depth on MDI mesial group was 1.80 ± 0.63 and Q-Implants was 3.70 ± 0.48, t test, p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Average pocket depth on MDI distal group was 2.00 ± 0.21 and Q-Implants was 3.50 ± 0.27, t test, p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Average bone level on MDI mesial group was 0.52 ± 0.27 and Q-Implants was 0.93 ± 0.40, t test, p= 0.01 (p<0.05). Average bone level on MDI distal group was 0.48 ± 0.07 and Q-Implants was 1.05 ± 0.10, t test, p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Conclusion. Research result from examination of bleeding on probing, Gingival Index, pocket depth, and bone level showed a smaller number on mini implant compared with standard implant.

    Abstract:

    Abstract The periodontal status of 77 diabetic children and adolescents, and 77 paired, systemically-healthy, sex- and age-matched control subjects, was clinical examined. Fasting blood glucose, fructosamine and glycosylated haemoglobin (HbAl) values were determined. The mean periodontal pocket depths, clinical attachment levels and the parameters to assess diabetes mellitus from the diabetic group were significantly higher than those of the controls. We found a positive correlation between the duration of diabetes and clinical attachment loss, but not with periodontal probing depth, plaque Index and Gingival Index in the diabetic group. A positive correlation was also assessed between the present serum fructosamine and Gingival Index in the diabetic group, but not in controls.

    Introduction: A healthy mouth is an important part of a healthy body. Poor oral health can affect a person's quality of life. Oral pain, missing teeth or oral infections can influence the way a person speaks, eats and socializes. The present study is done with the purpose of determining the relationship between inter-dental cleaning behavior and Gingival Index based on the Trans-theoretical Model in adolescent in city of Yazd, Iran. Materials & Methods: The present research is an experimental study. Based on statistical calculations, a lot of 361 students at pre-university level were selected by cluster random sampling method and allocated in two groups of intervention (185 persons, 51.2%) and control (176 persons, 48.8%). The instrument for collecting the information was a questionnaire consisting of demographic characteristics, self efficacy questions; decisional balancing (perceived benefits and perceived barriers). Validity and reliability of questionnaire was confirmed. The educational program was designed based on self efficacy, decisional balance (perceived advantages and perceived obstacles) of Trans-theoretical Model. After three months, evaluation of the variables of model and Gingival Index that was determined by the dentist, was performed. . The information was analyzed by SPSS software using statistical tests of ANOVA, Paired T-test, T-test, Fisher, and correlation coefficient. Results: The average age of the participants in the study was 17.53 ± 0.55 years. Subsequent to implementation of the educational program, a considerable difference was noticed in the average degree of self efficacy (P<0.001), perceived benefits increased (P<0.001), barriers decreased (P<0.001) and Gingival Index (P=0. 01) improved for the intervention group before and after the education. After intervention, significant difference was not showed in the average degree of self- efficacy, perceived barriers and Gingival Index for control group but significant and positive increase was noticed in perceived benefits (P=0. 01) Discussion: In total, the findings indicate that educational intervention has had an effect on the Gingival Index, self efficacy and perceived benefits and since the self-efficacy factor is an important predictor in oral self-care behavior. It is suggested to use Trans-theoretical Model in educational interventions for improving self efficacy, increasing advantages and reducing obstacles.

    Objective: To determine the occurrence of oral manifestations, Gingival Index, dental state and associated therapeutic aspects in patients with vesiculobullous diseases. Study design: Prospective and observational study conducted with 69 patients from May 2013 to May 2014 at the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic of the Clinical Hospital, University of Sao Paulo Medical School, Brazil. Data were analyzed for frequency in absolute values, percentage and correlation using the Chi-square test. Results: 84.1% of the patients had oral manifestations of vesiculobullous diseases (p = 0.001); 25% had Gingival lesions; 18.2% had lesions in the buccal mucosa, and 17.6% in the lips, with no correlation between the location and the type of disease (p = 0.990). Among all patients with bullous pemphigoid, linear IgA dermatosis, and mucous membrane pemphigoid, 59 (93.6%) patients had Gingival inflammation of dental origin but without significant correlation (p = 0.42). There was correlation between pemphigus vulgaris and periodontal disease (p = 0.05). Conclusion: Gingival inflammation seems to interfere negatively with the clinical course of these diseases. Further studies should be conducted to better clarify the interrelations between dental and Gingival state, and between vesiculobullous diseases and oral involvement.
