Journal of Engineering for Thermal Energy and Power, 2002Co-Authors: Zhang Zhen, Liu Jun, Lin ZunAbstract:Based on the analysis of the present operating condition of a thermal power plant Induced Draft fan and the study of high voltage frequency conversion technology the authors present a specific example of using a Robicon Perfect Harmony frequency converter for the modification of a thermal power plant Induced Draft fan. Also described is the control of the power plant main auxiliaries based on the use of high voltage frequency conversion technology. The usage example cited above has proved that such frequency conversion technology has excellent prospects of applications in the pursuit of energy savings and higher automation control level.

Journal of Process Control, 2015Co-Authors: Cornelius Jacobus Muller, I K CraigAbstract:Abstract The successful operation of any petrochemical plant is dependent on the use of several utilities which may include electricity, steam, compressed air, cooling media, refrigeration media, nitrogen, condensate and fuel gas. These utilities form a significant portion of the fixed cost associated with running a plant. Utility optimisation has not received much attention until recently, driven by rising energy costs, stricter environmental policies, more competitive markets, and the threat of climate change. The generation, preparation, and transportation of utilities require energy and therefore should be optimised to reduce losses and improve operating efficiency. One example of such a utility is a cooling water system. This paper describes the modelling of a dual circuit Induced Draft cooling water system for control and optimisation purposes. The derived model is verified with plant data indicating promising results. The model is represented in a steady-state algebraic form as well as a dynamic state-space form. This provides a convenient basis for simulation studies and controller/optimiser design.

Application of turbine-driven Induced Draft fan in 1000 MW ultra-supercritical unit
Electric Power, 2012Co-Authors: Yao You-jiangAbstract:For energy-saving and emission-reducing,enhancing the efficiency of energy utilization,the technological innovation for Induced Draft fan with the maximum power in 1 036 MW ultra supercritical unit of Huaneng Haimen Power Plant was implemented.Changing general motor-driven Induced Draft fan to turbine-driven mode for the first time,merger setting the Induced Draft fan and the FGD booster fan,not setting FGD booster fan alone,the power plant using electricity rate was obviously reduced.And 6 kV power of the auxiliary power system was reduced.The Induced Draft fan can realize variable speed adjustment,and the loss of throttling was reduced,the energy-saving effect was remarkable.The operation of the Induced Draft fan driven by turbine was stable,the function of furnace pressure adjustment was good,and which can satisfy the index request of Induced Draft fan performance under full load condition.
