2016Co-Authors: Shelley J Newman, Cyndi J Brown, A K PatnaikAbstract:Abstract. A 7-year-old intact female red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) presented with anorexia of 2–3-weeks duration. Coelomic radiographs demonstrated 3 shelled eggs in the right cavity. Hormone therapy failed to induce oviposition. Exploratory laparotomy revealed 3 calcified eggs in the right oviduct and a large mass obliterating the left ovary. The large, multilobulate mass had scattered, firm, white nodules and weighed 450 g. Histopathology revealed a Malignant Teratoma composed of immature embryonal and extraembryonal elements derived from all 3 germ layers with multifocal epithelial anaplasia. This is the first report of a Teratoma in chelonian gonadal tissue. Teratomas and reptilian gonadal neoplasia are reviewed. Teratomas are neoplasms containing elements orig-inating from more than 1 germ cell layer.22 These el-ements are either seen in associations that resemble normal organs or intermingled haphazardly.19 Terato-mas may be classified as benign (mature) or Malignant (immature) depending on the degree of anaplasia or the presence of undifferentiated elements resembling those of the embryo.15 Teratocarcinomas are undiffer

Teratomas with Malignant transformation refer to lesions which give rise to Malignant cancer of somatic type. The association between tumors of dermoid origin and Klippel–Feil malformation is extremely rare. Only 23 other cases have so far been reported, and only one case of dermoid tumor with areas of dedifferentiation on squamous cell carcinoma has been described. We report the case of a 72-year-old white man with a 2-year history of gait and balance disturbances. A brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed a fourth ventricle neoplastic process with infiltrative features. He was operated through a suboccipital craniectomy with a C1 laminotomy and bilateral vertebral artery transposition. At 6-months follow-up, magnetic resonance imaging showed an early regrowth of the fourth ventricle tumor, with the same radiological features. Patients with Klippel–Feil malformation could develop posterior fossa dermoid tumors. The Malignant potential of such tumors must be considered and surgery is recommended. Particular attention must be focused on the histopathological analysis in order to identify possible foci of Malignant transformation.

The Journal of Urology, 1992Co-Authors: R T D Oliver, M A Raja, J Ong, C J GallagherAbstract:AbstractA total of 41 patients with stage 1 Malignant Teratoma of the testis treated from January 1986 to June 1990 was entered into a pilot study of 2 courses of adjuvant cisplatin-based combination chemotherapy. Of the patients 22 had a high or intermediate risk of relapse according to the Medical Research Council (United Kingdom) prognostic factor analysis and surveillance was instituted for 19 patients with a low relapse risk. The overall relapse rate in this group of patients (median followup 2 years) was 9.7% (5% in the adjuvant group and 16% in the surveillance group), which was significantly better than the 35% rate in the historical series treated by surveillance from 1980 to 1985 and equaled or was possibly better than that reported from adjuvant retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. Justification for consideration of 1 course of adjuvant treatment for such cases is reviewed, and the need for examination of such an approach in a neoadjuvant setting with either lymph node dissection or surveilla...
