Las familias Aizoaceae, Molluginaceae y Phytolaccaceae (Caryophyllales) en el estado de Aguascalientes, México

The family Molluginaceae is represented by the genera Glinus, with the species G. radiatus, and Mollugo, with M. verticillata. Finally, the family Phytolaccaceae is represented by two genera Phytolacca y Rivina; for the genus Phytolacca the species P. dioica, P. icosandra and P. octandra are reported; whereas, for the genus Rivina, only R. humilis is reported, which is a new record for the entity. Taxonomic descriptions and dichotomous keys are included for the identification of genera and species.Resumen: En el estado de Aguascalientes la familia Aizoaceae está representada por los géneros Trianthema, con la especie T. portulacastrum, y Sesuvium, con S. humifusum, esta última especie es un nuevo registro para el estado y el país. ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, ANALGESIC AND ANTIPYRETIC EFFECTS OF Mollugo PENTAPHYLLA L

In experimental standard models. The results showed that the ethanolic extract significantly reduce the edema induced by carrageenan within 1 to 3 hrs. post dosing and Cotton-pellet induced granuloma models than the petroleum ether extract at all the dose levels used. In analgesic activity by tail immersion and acetic acid induced writhing models, ethanolic extract significantly reduce the painful stimulus than petroleum ether extract. This confirms central and peripheral effects of the drugs. It also possess antipyretic activity, ethanolic extract significantly reduces fever at higher doses within 3 hrs. than petroleum ether extract on Brewer´s yeast induced pyrexia model in rats

(family - Aizoaceae) was investigated for diuretic and laxative activity in albino rats at 200 and 400 mg/kg p.o. Which was compared with standard drugs Furosemide (10mg/kg, p.o.) and Agar agar (300mg/kg, p.o.) respectively. The extract was found to produce significant diuretic as well as laxative activity at dose 400 mg/kg. The plant was also found to possess the phytoconstituents like carbohydrates, alkaloids, gums, saponins, flavanoids, tanins and steroids.

The treatment of diabetes mellitus has been confined to use of oral hypoglycemic agents and insulin, the former being reported to possess serious side effects. This leads to increasing demand for herbal products with antidiabetic factor with little side effects. This article describes the antihyperglycaemic activity, of the ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of Mollugo pentaphylla and Glinus oppositifolius . The extracts produced significant decrease in the blood glucose level when compared with the controls in alloxan induced hyperglycemic, normoglycemic and oral glucose tolerance test in suitable rat models and is comparable with the standard drug glibenclamide.

(Molluginaceae) extract (MPE) has been reported to have anti-inflammatory effect on MSU-induced gouty arthritis in a mouse model. Objective: This study examined the anti-inflammatory activities of an MPE in vitro and anti-osteoarthritis effects on monosodium iodoacetate (MIA)-induced osteoarthritis (OA) in vivo. Materials and methods: The dried whole plants of M. pentaphylla were extracted with 70% ethanol under reflux. The anti-inflammatory effect of MPE was evaluated in vitro in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated RAW264.7 cells. The anti-osteoarthritic effect of MPE was investigated in a Sprague–Dawley rat model of MIA-induced OA. Each seven male rats were orally administered MPE (75, 150 or 300 mg/kg) or the positive control drug indomethacin (1 mg/kg) 3 days before MIA injection and once daily for 11 days thereafter. After the treatment with MPE, no evidence of systemic adverse effects was observed in any study group. Results: MPE exhibited anti-inflammatory activity via inhibition of the production of NO (57.8%), PGE2 (97.1%) and IL-6 (93.2%) in LPS-treated RAW264.7 cells at 200 μg/mL. In addition, MPE suppressed IL-1β (60.9%), TNF-α (37.9%) and IL- 6 (40.9%) production and suppressed the synthesis of MMP-2, MMP-9 and COX-2 in the MIA-induced OA rat model. Conclusions: These results demonstrate that MPE exerts potent anti-inflammatory activities and protects cartilage in an OA rat model. This might be a potential candidate for therapeutic OA treatment
