  • estudo semiotico do poema para um monumento ao antidepressivo de paulo henriques britto
    Estudos Semióticos, 2010
    Co-Authors: Dayane Celestino De Almeida
    Abstract:

Poet, prose writer, renowned translator and professor of literature, Paulo Henriques Britto is part of the so-called “contemporary Brazilian literature”. In the poem we have analyzed, entitled “Para um monumento ao antidepressivo”, published in the book Tarde (2007), Britto pays homage to Joao Cabral de Melo Neto (an important Brazilian poet), referring to the poem “Num monumento a aspirina”, which is in the book A educacao pela pedra (1966). Our work aims to analyze Britto’s poem taking the French Semiotics point of view. We try to understand how intertextuality is built, since it can be found not only in the titles, but also in the figure of a “portable sun”, associated with medicines in both texts. Britto’s poem is an example of intertextuality that can be called “condensation” (Lopes, 2003, p. 70). We also seek to put in evidence the organization of the expression plan and its relation with the content plan. Despite the substantial growth of semiotic studies of poetry, there are still few of them. Thus, our research is also justified in that it contributes to the expansion of semiotic analysis of poetry.

  • semiotica da poesia estudo de poemas de paulo henrique britto
    2009
    Co-Authors: Dayane Celestino De Almeida
    Abstract:

ALMEIDA, Dayane Celestino de. Semiotics of poetry: a study on poems by Paulo Henriques Britto. 2009. 125 f. Dissertacao (Mestrado) – Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciencias Humanas, Universidade de Sao Paulo, 2009. The work that we propose is guided by two goals: the first one is to gather several matters regarding poetic Semiotics, scattered throughout the literature on the subject; the second one is to analyze some poems by Paulo Henriques Britto, contemporary Brazilian poet, from the French Semiotics point of view, increasing the number of studies on the contemporary Brazilian poetry, filling the existent gap concerning detailed analysis of the work of an important poet of our times. Despite the substantial growth of semiotic studies, the ones using such theoretical perspective are not many. Thus, our research is also justified because it contributes to the expansion of semiotic analysis of poetry. We rely on the work of some linguists such as Ferdinand de Saussure, in his study on the anagrams (STAROBINSKI, 1978), and Roman Jakobson (1962, 1990, 2004), with his studies on structural and grammatical analysis of poetry. Furthermore, we have studied texts written by semioticians, especially those found in Ensaios de Semiotica Poetica, collection organized by Greimas (1975). The reading of texts from the field of the so-called tensive Semiotics was also very important. In all cases, we tried to demonstrate how the expression plan was built and, whenever possible, which was its interconnection with the content plan. The corpus selected for our research consists of five poems by Paulo Henriques Britto. They are: “I” and “V”, from the group “Bonbonniere”, “O prestidigitador”, from the group “Tres pecas circenses” (Trovar Claro, 1997), “Vespera” (Macau, 2003) e "Para um monumento ao antidepressivo” (Tarde, 2007).

  • Semiotics in information systems engineering
    2000
    Co-Authors: Kecheng Liu
    Abstract:

Semiotics, the science of signs, has long been recognised as an important discipline for understanding information and communications. Moreover it has found wide application in other areas of computer science, as it offers an effective insight into organisations and the computer systems that support them. An organisation may be viewed as a system of information and communication in which human actors, with the assistance of information technology, are able to process, represent, store and consume information. Computer systems that fit into an organisation and that support and enhance its performance and competitiveness, can be better delivered if semiotic principles are understood and applied. In this book, first published in 2000, semiotic methods are introduced and illustrated through three major case studies, which demonstrate how information systems can be developed to meet business requirements and support business objectives. It will appeal to academics, systems developers and analysts.

  • Towards A Social-based Process For Information System Development: A Case Study
    2015
    Co-Authors: Cocozza Simoni C.a., Meincke Melo A., Baranauskas M.c.c.
    Abstract:

The role played by the computer in organizations continues to evolve and increases in importance, since it mediates social relationships. To improve the information system (IS) development process we need a better understanding of the organizations and their internal and external interactions and dynamics. This chapter aims at discussing a semiotic-based approach to the development of IS. The proposed approach is illustrated with a case study in which a real organization was exposed to methods of organizational Semiotics (OS) to rethink its way of developing systems. This work has allowed us to verify the contributions of OS to the redesign of an IS development process in an IT organization. © 2007 Springer.177192Blyth, A., Business Process Re-engineering: What is it? • A Case Study On Modelling The Communication Structure Of Critical Systems
    Aussino Academic Publishing House, 2015
    Co-Authors: Guimaraes M.s., Baranauskas M.c.c.
    Abstract:

Safety-Critical systems are systems whose failure would provoke injury or death to human beings. The Personal Air Vehicle (PAV) represents a new generation of small aircrafts being conceived to extend personal air travel to a much larger segment of the population proposing new concepts of interaction and communication in aviation. In this domain, communication is a critical factor especially regarding the communication of users with the vehicle through its interfaces. This paper presents a case study in which we model the communication structure of this type of system, aiming at supporting the design of interaction in safety-critical systems. The approach is based on Semiotic theory and artefacts.465472China Association for Information Systems,China Information Economics Society,et al.,International Federation of Information Processing, WG8.1,National Natural Science Foundation of China,University of Reading(2007) Personal Air Vehicle, , http://cafefoundation.org/v2/pav_home.php, Accessed 23 MarchCordeiro, J., Filipe, J., The semiotic pentagram framework - A perspective on the use of Semiotics within organisational Semiotics (2004) Proceedings of the 7th International Workshop on Organisational SemioticsJohnson, C.W., (2003) Failure in Safety-critical Systems: A Handbook of Incident and Accident Reporting, , Glasgow University PressCarver, L., Turoff, M., Human-computer interaction: The human and computer as a team in emergency management information systems (2007) Communications of the ACM, 50 (3). , ACM PressSalles, J.P., Baranauskas, M.C.C., Bigonha, R.S., Towards a communication model applied to the interface design process (2001) Knowledge-Based Systems, 18, pp. 455-459Liu, K., (2000) Semiotics in Information Systems Engineering, , Cambridge University PressBaranauskas, M.C.C., Salles, J.P., Liu, K., Analysing communication in the context of a software production organisation (2002) 4th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems, pp. 202-209. , Kluwer Academic PublishersHarrison, M., Aspects of human error: A brief introduction (2004) Workshop on Human Computer Interaction and Dependability, , http://www.laas.fr/IFIPWG/Workshops&Meetings/46/03-Harrison.pdf, Accessed 26 April 2006Guimarães, M.S., Baranauskas, M.C.C., Martins, E., A communication-based approach to requirements elicitation for safety-critical systems (2007) Proceedings of 10th International Conference on Organisational Semiotics ICOSGuimarães, M.S., Baranauskas, M.C.C., Martins, E., Communication-based modelling and inspection in critical systems (2008) 10thInternational Conference Enterprises on Information Systems, , INSTICC Press, PortugalGuimarães, M.S., Baranauskas, M.C.C., Martins, E., Interaction in critical systems: Conquests and challenges (2007) 9th International Conference Enterprises on Information Systems, pp. 170-175. , INSTICC Press, PortugalPalanque, P., Paterno, F., Fields, R., Designing user interfaces for safety critical systems (1998) CHÍ98 Workshop, , ACM PressBonacin, R., Simoni, C.A.C., Melo, A.M., Baranauskas, M.C.C., Organisational Semiotics: Guiding a service-oriented architecture for e-government (2006) 9thInternational Conference on Organisational Semiotics, pp. 47-58Stamper, R.K., Social norms in requirements analysis - An outline of measur (1993) Requirements Engineering Technical and Social Aspects, , Academic PressSalles, J.P., O modelo fractal de comunicação: Criando um espaço de análise para inspeção do processo de design de software (2000) Tese de Doutorado, , Universidade Federal de Minas GeraisYoung, S.D., Quon, L., (2006) Aviation Safety Program, Integrated Intelligent Flight Deck, , http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/aero/nra_pdf/iifd_tech_plan_c1.pdf, technical plan summary. • About The Requisites Analysis To The Interface Project: A Subjectivist Approach For The Information Systems [da Análise De Requisitos Ao Projeto De Interface: Uma Abordagem Subjetivista Para Sistemas De Informação]
    2015
    Co-Authors: Simoni C.a.c., Baranauskas M.c.c.
    Abstract:

The fields of Information Systems (IS) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) have both experienced a move from an exclusively objectivist perspective to the inclusion of interpretative and subjective aspects in system design. This paper aims at constructing a semiotic-based referential to model user requirements reflecting them in the interface design. The proposed approach is illustrated with a case study in which three teams of academics with practical knowledge in software development were exposed to the methodological referential to model a real problem using methods and techniques from Organizational Semiotics. From this modelling, interface prototypes were built and we could observe that they had reflected the language, rules, navigation and spaces represented in the models. The results achieved suggest that the theoretical referential seems to be an appropriate foundation for understanding a subjective view to information systems, and a guiding concept for joining HCI and IS projects.46179190Adler, P.S., Winograd, T., The usability challenge (1992) Usability: Turning Technologies into Tools, , P.S. • Learning and knowing as semiosis: extending the conceptual apparatus of Semiotics
    'University of Tartu', 2019
Co-Authors: Campbell Cary, Olteanu Alin, Kull Kalevi
    Abstract:

If all knowing comes from semiosis, more concepts should be added to the semiotic toolbox. However, semiotic concepts must be defined via other semiotic concepts. We observe an opportunity to advance the state-of-the-art in Semiotics by defining concepts of cognitive processes and phenomena via semiotic terms. In particular, we focus on concepts of relevance for theory of knowledge, such as learning, knowing, affordance, scaffolding, resources, competence, memory, and a few others. For these, we provide preliminary definitions from a semiotic perspective, which also explicates their interrelatedness. Redefining these terms this way helps to avoid both physicalism and psychologism, showcasing the epistemological dimensions of environmental situatedness through the semiotic understanding of organisms’ fittedness with their environments. Following our review and presentation of each concept, we briefly discuss the significance of our embedded redefinitions in contributing to a semiotic theory of knowing that has relevance to both the humanities and the life sciences, while not forgetting their relevance to education and psychology, but also social semiotic and multimodality studies

  • Learning and knowing as semiosis: Extending the conceptual apparatus of Semiotics

    Abstract:

If all knowing comes from semiosis, more concepts should be added to the semiotic toolbox. Co-Authors: Natália Cipolaro Guirado
    Abstract:

PALAVRAS - CHAVE : cinema; fotografia; semiotica; Star Wars . ABSTRACT : In this work we will present a bibliographical review and presentation of the historical of the French Semiotics that allows to approach the scientific image. We will illustrate with a brief analysis of scientific images presented in two Star Wars franchise films: the first photograph of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999) and the second of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005), both directed by George Lucas. To that end, we will use tools from the theoretical framework proposed by the Semioticists Jean-Francois Bordron (2009), Jacques Fontanille (2007) and Maria Giulia Dondero (2010a). We will try to analyze the visual universe of the Star Wars films, since the narratives occur in a fictitious galaxy and several sideways space travels are constantly presented, thus, we will approach the vulgarization to be made of certain scientific images for the target audience so that they can be understood .
