    The authors have described Chinius samarensis n. sp. (Diptera; Psychodidae) from the Philippines (Island of Samar). This is the fourth known Species belonging to the Asiatic genus Chinius Leng, 1987. Like the other Chinius, C. samarensis n. sp. is a Cavernicolous Species. The genital ducts of the male are four times shorter than the spermathecal ducts. However, the authors think that male and female belong to the same Species due to their similar cytochrome b mt DNA sequences. A differential diagnosis with the other Species belonging to the genus Chinius is provided.

    Abstract A description is given of Chinius eunicegalatiae n. sp. (Diptera; Psychodidae) from Laos. This is the third known Species belonging to the Asiatic genus Chinius Leng, 1987. Like C. junlianensis Leng, 1987 and C. barbazani Depaquit, Leger and Beales, 2006, C. eunicegalatiae n. sp. is a Cavernicolous Species. An absence of the R2 vein is shared with C. barbazani. A differential diagnosis with the two other known Species of the genus is given. The main differential characters are the lengths of the genital filaments and of the spermathecal ducts.

    A new Species of sandfly is described from limestone caves in Thailand. The inclusion of this Species in the subgenus Euphlebotomus is justified on the basis of characters of the male genitalia (paramere, basal lobe). The male–female gathering in the same taxon is based on ecological (Cavernicolous Species), morphological (length of male genital filaments and female spermathecal ducts) and molecular (homology of cytochrome b mt DNA sequences) criteria. A differential diagnosis between Phlebotomus mascomai n. sp. and P. argentipes Annandale & Brunetti, the vector of Leishmania donovani (Laveran & Mesnil) in India, is proposed based on several morphological characters like antennal formula and genitalia.

    Nyctomyia biunguiculata, sp. n., is described from a unique male reared from a pupa (exuviae partially decomposed and over cleared) collected from a rimstone pool deep inside Wat Sumano cave located in Phatthalung Province of southern Thailand. The genitalia of the holotype are illustrated, and the Species is compared with Nc. pholeocola, the type Species of the genus described from a cave in another province of southern Thailand. The Species has not been found outside the cave and appears to be a true troglobite.

    Abstract:

    Harbach et al . (2013) proposed the new generic name Nyx for an undescribed Cavernicolous Species of Culicidae discovered in a cave at Wat Tham Panthurat in Surat Thani Province of southern Thailand. The authors were not aware that the generic name was already in use for a genus in the lepidopteran family Choreutidae (Heppner, 1982). In accordance with Article 60 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN, 1999), Nyx Heppner, 1982, has priority and Nyx Harbach & Linton, 2013, must be treated as its junior homonym. Hence, I herewith propose the replacement name Nyctomyia nom. nov. for Nyx Harbach & Linton, 2013. The generic name is derived from the name of the Greek goddess Nyx (nominative, transliteration of νύξ; genitive Nyctos , transliteration of νυκτός, genitive stem Nycto -) and the Greek noun myia (transliteration of mυ ῖ α , f. fly), literally translated as “Nyx fly”. The two-letter abbreviation Nc . is recommended for Nyctomyia . Nyctomyia pholeocola (Linton & Harbach) comb. nov. is the only Species included in the genus.

    Nyx Harbach & Linton, gen. nov., is introduced as a new mosquito genus of tribe Aedini for a previously unknown cavedwelling Species, Nyx pholeocola Linton & Harbach, sp. nov., from southern Thailand. A diagnosis of the genus is provided that features unique anatomical characters of the adult, pupal and larval stages of the type Species. The affinities of Nyx are discussed in terms of its position in the phylogeny of Aedini. Nyx is more closely related to Borichinda and Isoaedes than to other genera of tribe Aedini. Salient differences that distinguish these three genera are contrasted. The male and female genitalia, pupa and fourth-instar larva of the new Species are illustrated. DNA sequence for the second nuclear internal spacer region (ITS2) and the 658-bp barcode fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene reveal very low similarity with published sequences, supporting the unique status of the new Species.

    Borichinda Harbach and Rattanarithikul, n. gen., is introduced as a new mosquito genus of tribe Aedini for a previously unknown cave-dwelling Species, Borichinda cavernicola Rattanarithikul and Harbach, n. sp., in Thailand. A diagnosis of the genus is provided that features unique anatomical characters of the adult, pupal, and larval stages of the type Species. The affinities of Borichinda and Bc. cavernicola are discussed in terms of their position in the phylogeny of Aedini. The male and female genitalia, pupa, fourth-instar larva, and terminal abdominal segments of the third-instar larva of the new Species are illustrated. Sequence data are provided for the second nuclear internal spacer region (ITS2) and a 522-bp fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene. Cladistic analysis of morphological data indicates that Borichinda is more closely related to Isoaedes and Ayurakitia than to other genera of tribe Aedini. Salient differences that distinguish these three genera are contrasted.
