Richness and diversity of Conidial Fungi associated with plant debris in three enclaves of Atlantic Forest in the Caatinga biome of Brazil
Plant Ecology and Evolution, 2018Co-Authors: Tasciano Dos Santos Santa Izabel, Luis Fernando Pascholati GusmaoAbstract:Background and aims – A study of richness and diversity of Conidial Fungi associated with plant debris was conducted in three Atlantic Forest enclaves in the Caatinga biome: Serra da Jibóia-BA (SJ), Serra da Ibiapaba-CE (SI) and Brejo Paraibano-PB (BP). Methods – The plant debris samples included leaves, twigs and barks and were washed in running water, incubated in moist chambers and analyzed for 40 days under a stereomicroscope. These reproductive structures were transferred to slides containing PVL resin and identified with specialized literature. Key results – The richness and diversity were similar in the three enclaves of interest. Cluster analysis using the Morisita similarity index indicated a group formed by fungal communities of SI and BP and another with SJ. Of these substrates, the leaves had the greatest richness and the bark samples had the greatest diversity, but these differences were not significant. Multivariate analysis via NMDS revealed differences in the fungal community composition with respect to the substrate and area, but the similarity analysis (ANOSIM) indicated that the differences were significant only with respect to the substrate.Conclusions – The survey data shows the great richness and diversity of Conidial Fungi in the studied areas. Substrate was the most determinant factor for the distribution of Fungi when compared with area.

Fungos conidiais foram amostrados no folhedo ao redor de individuos de C. odorata em tres areas florestais no municipio de Belem (PA). Um total de 104 especies foi identificado, com 53 novos registros para o Estado do Para e 46 que representam o primeiro registro para a Amazonia brasileira. Dentre estas, foram encontrados novos registros para o Brasil (Cordana abramovii), para a America do Sul (Acarocybiopsis cubitaensis, Xylocladium claviforme) e para as Americas (Dactylaria biguttulata). Uma revisao das especies de fungos conidiais relatadas em C. odorata e fornecida, indicando sua distribuicao no Brasil. Para cada novo registro no Brasil, America do Sul e Americas apresentamos uma descricao, ilustracoes, distribuicao geografica e comentarios taxonomicos.

Fungal succession (sequential occurrence of sporulating Fungi) was investigated on plant debris (leaves, twigs, and barks). The material was collected in three humid forests enclaves in the Caatinga biome, northeast of Brazil, and the samples were incubated in moist chambers to verify the occurrence of Conidial Fungi in four incubations periods: 1 (up to 10 days of incubation), 2 (11–20 days), 3 (21–30), and 4 (31–40 days). A total of 213 taxa were recorded. The species richness was similar in the three enclaves studied. Only two species occurred in all periods and more than one substrate: Chloridium virescens ((Pers.) W. Gams & Hol.-Jech) occurred in the leaves and barks and Ellisembia adscendens ((Berk.) Subram.) occurred in the barks and twigs. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) indicates that substrate was the most determinant factor for the fungal community composition compared with area and incubation periods. The result of analysis of similarity demonstrates that the groups formed in NMDS were significant. The succession on decaying leaves demonstrated the highest richness among the substrates studied. In the leaves, the major richness values were detected in the P1 period, while in the barks and twigs, the major richness values were detected in the P1 and P2 periods. Species richness decreases after 20 incubation days in all substrates. Cluster analysis indicates the formation of communities relating to incubation periods in the leaves. The results of this study demonstrated a fungal succession on plant debris during the incubation period.

Some facultative-aquatic Conidial Fungi from the Caatinga biome II: new records for Brazil and Americas

Eighty-six species were identified. Among them, Corynesporopsis antillana RF Castaneda and WB Kendrick and Oedemium minus (Link) S. Hughes are new records for Brazil, and, Dactylella yunnanensis K. Q. Zhang, Z. Xing Liu and L. Cao, Ellisembia vaginata McKenzie, and Xylomyces pusillus Goh, W. H. Ho, K. D. Hyde and K. M. Tsui are new records for Americas. Fifteen species are recorded for the first time from freshwater habitat. Descriptions, illustrations, commentaries, and geographic distribution are presented for the new records.

Conidial Fungi from the semi-arid Caatinga biome of Brazil: The genus Menisporopsis

Hughes is characterized by synnematous conidiomata around a central seta, phialidic conidiogenous cells and falcate to lunate 0- to 1-septate conidia with terminal setulae. Currently, nine species are included in the genus. In the course of investigating Conidial Fungi associated with decaying plant material in the semi-arid region of Brazil, we identified five Menisporopsis species: M. kobensis Matsush.; M. novae-zelandiae S. Hughes & Kendr.; M. pirozynskii Varghese & Rao; M. profusa Piroz. & Hodges; and M. theobromae S. Hughes. Ours represents only the second record of M. kobensis for the world. We present descriptions, comments, geographic distributions and illustrations for all five species, as well as a key to the recognized species.

New species and combinations of Conidial Fungi from the semi-arid Caatinga biome of Brazil

Miller, Luis Fernando Pascholati GusmaoAbstract:During a survey of Conidial Fungi carried out in aquatic and terrestrial habitats in the semi-arid Caatinga biome of Brazil, three new species were found on decaying plants. Anungitopsis caatingensis sp. nov. was found on decaying leaves collected in a terrestrial habitat. Codinaea pindobacuensis sp. nov. and Stanjehughesia clavata sp. nov. were found on decaying leaves and decaying bark collected in freshwater, respectively. Descriptions, illustrations and comments are presented, including a key to accepted species of Anungitopsis. Three species of Janetia are transferred to Linkosia and two species are proposed as synonyms: Minimelanolocus machili is synonymous with Cacumisporium pleuroconidiophorum and Janetia curviapicis is synonymous with Stanjehughesia hamatiella.

Descriptions, illustrations, geographic distributions and comments are provided for the aforementioned species and a list of all of the species is included.

Paliphora intermedia and P. porosa are recorded for the first time for South America and the neotropics respectively. Paliphora inflata and P. multiseptata are proposed as new species. A key and synoptic table of characters of the five known species of Paliphora are provided.

New root endophytic water borne Conidial Fungi from Kumaun Himalaya

Sati, Richa PathakAbstract:Water borne Conidial Fungi occurring in living roots of healthy plant growing in the wet and ravine areas of Dogaon and Ramgarh, Nainital, Kumaun Himalaya (India) were isolated as root endophytes. A total of 15 species ( Alatospora acuminata, Anguillospora longissima, Beltrania rhombica , Campylospora chaetocladia, Claviriopsis aquatica, Cylindrocarpon aquaticum, Flagellospora penicilloides, Helicomyces roseus, Helicosporium lumbricoides, Pleurophragmium sonum, Pestalotiopsis submersus, Seridium sp, Setosynnema isthomosporum, Tetrachaetum elegans and Tetracladium marchalianum ) of endophytic aquatic fungus were recovered as root endophytes of various host plants. Three species viz. Helicosporium lumbricoides, Pleurophragmium sonum and Setosynnema isthomosporum isolated from the roots of pteridophytes and grasses were found as new root endophytes. Among the studied host plants five plant species were also found as new hosts.

Occurrence of Water Borne Conidial Fungi in Relation to Some Physico-Chemical Parameters in a Fresh Water Stream

Sati, Pratibha AryaAbstract:Relative effect of some physico-chemical parameters of water to the occurrence of water borne Conidial Fungi was studied in a high altitudinal fresh water stream. A total of 30 species belonging to 21 genera were isolated. The number of Conidial fungal species was enumerated in water samples collected monthly during the period of March 2007-February 2008. There was marked seasonal fluctuation in the occurrence of the species. The maximum number of species was found during spring to early summer and winter, while there was a decline in the number of species during late summer, rainy and early autumn seasons. Species richness was correlated with seven different water quality variables measured for each sample period, viz., temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, organic and inorganic content, phosphate and sulphate concentration. The data were analyzed statistically for correlation and these factors were found to be significant for the occurrence of water borne Conidial Fungi. (Nature and Science. 2009;7(4):20-28). Temperature tolerance of water borne Conidial Fungi in freshwater streams of Central Himalaya

AryaAbstract:Two different fast flowing fresh water streams, Jageshwar (1775 m. asl) and Jeoli (1150 m. asl) stream of Central Himalaya were studied for water borne Conidial Fungi. A total of 33 species were encountered within one year. Among these, 9 species viz., Alatospora acuminata, Anguillospora longissima, Clavariopsis aquatica, Flagellospora penicillioides, Lunulospora curvula, Tetrachaetum elegans, Tetracladium marchalianum, Tetracladium setigerum, and Triscelophorus monosporus were found throughout the year and regarded as temperature tolerant species. Alatospora flagellata, Lemonniera cornuta, L. pseudofloscula and L. terrestris were observed in only a low temperature range ( 16°C) and regarded as high temperature loving species.

Diversity Of Water Borne Conidial Fungi As Root Endophytes In Temperate Forest Plants Of Western Himalaya

Twenty one species were recorded as root endophytes in healthy roots of forest plants of Western Himalaya. Three species viz., Camposporium pellucidum, Diplocladiella scalaroides and Helicomyces roseus are being reported for the first time as root endophytes whereas 8 species viz., Acaulopage tetraceros, Alatospora acuminata, Anguillospora longissima, Campylospora purvula, Cylindrocarpon aquaticum, Heliscus lugdunensis, Tetracladium marchalianum and Tetracladium setigerum are recorded with their new host record. Maximum host diversity was represented by Cylindrocarpon aquaticum and Tetracladium setigerum as the former endophyte was isolated from 14 host plants followed by latter which was isolated from 12 host plants. Utilization of various carbon sources for the growth of waterborne Conidial Fungi

BishtAbstract:Four isolates of waterborne Conidial Fungi (Tetracheatum elegans, Tetracladium marchalianum, Pestalotiopsis submersus and Flagellospora penicillioides) were investigated for their carbon requirement, using eight different carbon sources (viz. glucose, fructose, sucrose, xylose, starch, cellulose, dextrin and lactose). All Fungi tested grew sparsely on the basal medium lacking in carbon, which was the control. However these Fungi were found to vary in their ability to use the supplied sources of carbon. Glucose and sucrose were found to be suitable sources of carbon for all four fungal isolates, whereas fructose proved good for T. marchalianum and P. submersus. Starch and xylose also supported growth of T. marchalianum, P. submersus and F. penicillioides. Cellulose, a polysaccharide, was a poor source of carbon for the growth of these isolates. Four g/L of glucose was recorded as the most useful concentration that gives the maximum dry weight of selected Fungi (262 mg and 400 mg for T. elegans and P. submersus respectively after 15 d).

Corynesporopsis curvularioides sp. nov. and New Records of MicroFungi from Southern China

The fungus is characterized by its terminal, monotretic conidiogenous cells with catenate, obclavate to ellipsoidal, pale brown to brown, 15-35 × 7-11 μm, 1-5-euseptate conidia. Among them, Quadracaea roureae is described as a new species. Phaeoblastophora resinae, Phragmocephala atra var. stenophora and Pseudospiropes nodosus are newly recorded from China.

As there are harmful and useful ones, it adds to the necessity of correct classification. Categorization of this Conidial Fungi is usually done through manual microscopical procedures which apparently has a degree of subjectiveness. In order to classify Aspergillus samples faster and more accurately, technology, specifically image processing and machine learning are incorporated in this study. Pre-trained deep learning models are employed in classifying 9 kinds of Aspergillus. The methodology is generally comprised of preprocessing, deep-learning (training) and performance evaluation. Performance evaluation pertains to the validation accuracy and running times of the system after training through visual display of graphs and tabulation of acquired data. This study achieved a 93.3333% testing accuracy proving that the transferred knowledge is accurate, compatible and reliable.
