Basically Occupation Medicine is a branch of preventive medicine which is a medical science. It focuses on health care for the employees from the threats and risks to their health as a result of the implication of work and the environment in the workplace. Industrial Hygiene is a branch of engineering which is concerned about the working environment and wants it to be safe and secure. Both Occupational Medicine and Industrial Hygiene will work together to achieve the objective of having a safe and healthy working environment. Although each branch has different working processes and different professionals, they are closely linked to work successfully. Employee will be healthy and happy at the work place and that will increase productivity and product quality.

Industrial Hygiene Monitoring
Semiconductor Industrial Hygiene Handbook, 1995Co-Authors: Michael E. Williams, David G. Baldwin, Paul C. ManzAbstract:This chapter discusses various aspects of the Industrial Hygiene monitoring. Industrial Hygiene monitoring in the semiconductor industry is a very broad issue that covers both chemical and physical hazards. It is complicated by the fact that semiconductor operators and technicians rarely stay at one work station for the entire day. The complex chemistries and large quantities of hazardous materials that are integral to semiconductor manufacturing increase the level of chemical concerns among cleanroom employees. Radio frequency (RF)/microwave radiation is a good example of a potential hazard that does not have good warning properties. It is found that another area that is important to investigate is exposure during maintenance of RF equipment; when by-passing the shielding and/or internal grounding may greatly affect the emission levels radiating from the machine. It is observed that if the appropriate shielding and internal grounding is in place, routine exposures to semiconductor fab operators should be very low. Urinary arsenic monitoring is particularly useful for determining if ingestion of arsenic from improper personal Hygiene is occurring. It is found that most chemical exposures during routine semiconductor manufacturing operations are far below accepted exposure standards.

The book also has excellent chapters on newer Industrial Hygiene concerns that are not specific to the semiconductor industry: ergonomics, indoor air quality, personal protective equipment, plan review, and records retention. While much of the information in these chapters can be applied to all industries, the focus and orientation is specific to issues in the semiconductor industry.
