Kondo, et al. proposed the scheme of Man-Machine Collaborated Systems (MMCSs) and its application to some assembling work. In MMCSs, efficient mode switching from human-oriented task to machine-oriented task is important. However, its issue has not been fully addressed yet. This study discusses a mode switching control method for MMCSs. Especially, we treat the switching from a power-assist mode (PAM) to an automatic positioning mode (APM) for a simple robotic system. To obtain a smooth switching, this study utilizes a two-degree-of-freedom control system structure which consists of an on-line impedance control simulator and an LQI servo controller. Some smooth reference generation for APM is also introduced. No input saturation and stopping appear at the switching in this method. The effectiveness of the method is verified experimentally.

To obtain a smooth switching, this study utilizes a two-degree-of-freedom control system structure which consists of an online impedance control simulator and an LQI servo controller. No input saturation and/or stopping appear at the switchings in these methods. The effectiveness of the methods is verified experimentally.

This article presents a methodology for planning and setting priorities for Industrial land use under these circumstances. Purpose: This article describes an approach to evaluating market demand for Industrial land, applied here to Prince George's County, MD, in order to determine which Industrial areas could be rezoned to alternate uses without causing major employment and tax losses to the county. Methods: I led a team that included an urban planning colleague and graduate students in identifying three types of Industrial land: economically healthy Industrial districts; Industrially zoned areas where there was evidence of conflict between industry and alternative residential, commercial, and office land uses; and areas zoned for industry where demand for Industrial space and land was weak or nonexistent. Published Papers, 2003Co-Authors: Vladimir MauAbstract:The paper discusses the strategy of economic development of Russia, which has to be developed after the end of the first stage of post-communist transition – when private economy replaced the state-controlled one and stabilization has been obtained. Russia is considered as a heavy Industrialized country, which has faced the challenges of post-Industrial modernization in the logic of catching-up development. This makes it different from so called ‘new Industrial states’ – countries that have to resolve the task of transformation of traditional (agrarian) society to Industrial one. Analysis is based on the approaches of A. Gerschenkron to ‘accelerated Industrialisation’ and their adjustment to post-Industrial World. The author suggests a set of economic policy principles, which could ensure sustainable economic growth and stimulate structural reforms appropriate for the new challenges, that is to stimulate transformation of Industrial country to post-Industrial one. This is considered as a ‘policy of catching-up post-Industrialization.

Plague and Lethal Epidemics in the Pre-Industrial World

MurphyAbstract:This article provides an overview of recent literature on plagues and other lethal epidemics, covering the period from late Antiquity to ca. 1800. We analyze the main environmental and institutional factors that shaped both the way in which a plague originated and spread and its overall demographic and socioeconomic consequences. We clarify how the same pathogen shows historically different epidemiological characteristics, and how apparently similar epidemics could have deeply different consequences. We discuss current debates about the socioeconomic consequences of the Black Death and other plagues. We conclude with historical lessons to understand modern “plagues.”

Industrial culture in a post Industrial World the case of the north east of england

Specifically, he looks at two urban Industrial city regions and suggests that rather than being doomed by their Industrial pasts, they are complex systems which have multiple future trajectories. Here, Byrne's paper explores the experiences and cultures of the North East region in the UK and the Katowice Industrial region in Poland, both located in the zones of carboniferous capitalism. Byrne explores how the culture of Industrialism and a proletarian class consciousness survives in what is generally considered to be a post-Industrial period.
