    Abstract:

    studies on the effects of neem on the histopathology of the testes of Mylabris indica revealed histopathological changes in the testes such as vacuolation, shrinkage of testis cyst cells, clumped and fragmented chromatin materials, disintegration and degeneration of germ cells such as spermatogonia, spermatocytes, spermatids and spermatozoa. The spermatocytes and spermatids became pycnotic and sperm bundles were disorganized, hypertrophied spermatozoa were also observed.

    Abstract:

    Studies on morphological and histological aspects of reproductive system of male blister beetle, Mylabris indica revealed the presence of a pair of testes, each one composed of number of unbranched, testicular follicles with radial arrangement, yellow coloured globule like structure from which emerges a central common tube efferent duct that later joins forming a vasa derenentia. The seminal vesicles are dilations of the vasa derenentia and its lead to different duct. The different duct along with three pairs of accessory reproductive glands (core of single duct) opens into an ejaculatory duct. There are three types of glands in the reproductive apparatus. The first is a pair of short, curled, tubular ring, mesoderm derived tubules with long columnar epithelial cells, which contain yellowish secretory materials. The second type consists of long, coiled, tubular whitish gland, they are derived from mesodermal cells which is present whitish secretory materials in their lumen. The third pair is long, coiled, hyline tubular gland, (ectoderminal-derivation) contain transparent secretory materials.

    Abstract:

    Histopathological effects of the sublethal concentration of Vijay neem on the fat body of the polyphagous pests Mylabris indica was evaluated. The results revealed a characteristic changes in the fat body cells of treated insect than control insect such as the disintegration and lysis of cell membrane, loss of granular nutritive substance in the cytoplasm, appearance of large sized vacuoles, disintegration and disorganization of nucleus were observed in the present study.

    Abstract:

    We evaluated the protective effect and toxicity of extracts from Mylabris phalerata Pallas by measuring the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), prothrombin time (PT), venous thrombosis and acute toxicity in rats. Results showed the petroleum ether (PE) and water fractions of M. phalerata inhibited thrombosis but hardly prolonged the APTT and PT in rats. The trichloromethane (TCM) fraction had obvious toxicity with a LD50 of 0.2 g/kg in vivo, and contained many cantharidin analogues (CAs) by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole ion trap-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTRAP-MS/MS). CAs are the major potential bioactivity constituent in M. phalerata. An effective and reliable UPLC-QTRAP-MS/MS method was successfully developed to separate and identify CAs. The fragmentation patterns of five purified compounds were applied for elucidate the structure of their analogues. Thirty four CAs were characterized or tentatively identified, eight of which are proposed to be novel compounds (13-17, 20, 21, 23), and their fragmentation patterns were investigated for the first time. Most importantly, a rapid and reliable UPLC-MS method was developed to identify CAs of M. phalerata. As shown, this method contributed to the discovery of most of these unknown analogues or their metabolites in M. phalerata effectively and quickly, and did not rely on limited chemical structural diversity libraries.

    Abstract:

    Eleven new monoterpenoids including three 1-methyl cantharimide-type derivatives (1–3), five 1,2-dimethyl cantharimide-type derivatives (4, 5, 7–9), and three 1-hydroxymethyl-2-methyl cantharimide-type derivatives (10–12), together with seven known cantharimides (6, 13–18), were isolated from Mylabis phalerata Palla. The planar structures and absolute configurations of compounds 1–14 were fully elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis, ECD spectra, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, and chemical methods. Compounds 6, 15, 16, and 18 were found to be potent inhibitors of HBV virus, with IC50 values of 62, 42, 58, and 19 μM.
